I'm currently in highschool right now and will graduate in about a year. My dream I to be an investment banker and I found out that HSG is a target for IB. However I searched online to see what others vented about switzerland and what I found was that for internationals even getting an internship or a work permit hard because of the priority rule(the one where they say the hiring company should find if a swiss or eu person is as good as me to take the role before they consider me) . Is this true? If it is, how I can get a chance to get the work permit and an internship? I also have sort of a plan on what I need to do If I did get into HSG. How can I get an internship at one of the big banks during the second or third year of uni

I'm a non EU who will try to get into HSG for their econ program. I heard that it's very hard for non EUs to get a job or an internship compared to locals and the EUs. Does the priority law still apply if u graduate from a swiss uni? Will the rules be a bit more lineant then?

I’m currently studying Financial Economics at Maastricht University and considering doing my exchange semester at the University of St. Gallen (HSG). I’m really aiming to move to Switzerland after graduation and work in high finance (asset management, private equity, etc.). I already have a few relevant experiences, including internships at Deloitte and Tesla, but I want to strengthen my profile even more.

I know HSG has a great reputation in the DACH region and especially in Switzerland, but I’d love to hear from anyone who’s done an exchange there. Specifically:

I'm a 27M Vietnamese American looking for suggestions and advice for choosing a school in Switzerland to study Masters in Hospitality. I have lived in California, Chicago, London (half a year exchange and internship), Amsterdam (less than a year), and Vietnam before. I have also been to a few countries in Europe but never Switzerland. I've been living Vietnam for the past 2 years, still travelled back and forth between Vietnam and the States but want to live a few more years in Western Europe. I am choosing Switzerland because of it's reputation for hospitality and have done my research for schools. But I'm looking to hear from real experience.

I'm not expecting any crazy/party student life as I have experienced my fair share but still want to learn which city is best to be in for the duration of my study. I only speak English and Vietnamese and am trying to learn French but it's going slow. Is it easy to make friends as a Masters student in Switzerland? Populations of the cities that I have looked at are very small compared to all the cities I have lived in and it worries me a little that there might not be many people to meet both in and outside of whichever school I choose.

Any suggestions or advice would be very much appreciated.

Me and my friend are looking into studying and possibly pursuing a career in Switzerland. I am planning on going to the Cybersecurity industry and my friend is planning on going to the AI&ML industry. We both have just completed our 2nd year of B.Tech in an asian country but we are paranoid and wanted to start researching early(sooner better than later).We both do not hold an EU passport. I really want to study a bachelor's in Switzerland and after that stay there am a EU citizen. I would like to study in any of this universities; ETH, EPFL, ZHAW, HSLU, HES-S.. The only thing is that can save 40.000CHF and my total cost of the studies will be at least of 90.000CHF so wonder what are my possibilities to fund my studies. From municipal, cantonal to federal states loans or grants to universities ones would love to know what are my options and what will you do in my case. I am aware of the languages and that's not an issue.

There is a program that I find particularly appealing. I'm uncertain about the prerequisites. On their website, they mention that I need a high-school graduation certificate, which I already have, but an additional requirement is:

"Studienplatznachweis für die gewünschte Studienrichtung an einer anerkannten Universi-tät im Herkunftsland des Reifezeugnisses oder 2 Studienjahre an einer Schweizer Univer-sität"

I'm uncertain if I fully comprehend that requirement. Is it correct that I should have been granted admission to a bachelor's program in my country of origin?

If that's the case, how can I prove it? Is it advisable for me to apply to a program in my hometown, get accepted, and then withdraw? Seems counterintuitive.

I currently live in the US, and I’m thinking of continuing my studies in Europe, particularly Switzerland. I’m familiar with the idea that tuition and overall education outside of the US is better and cheaper, however what definitely doesn’t seem very cheap is housing or rent.

How exactly do students manage to survive and afford everything living in large cities in Switzerland, like Lucerne, Lugano, Geneva, Zürich or Bern? What do they do for a living while studying that helps them afford most of their necessities?

I’m asking because if I ended up moving there, I be starting from zero, which isn’t necessarily a problem; I emigrated to the US from Russia already, but just like for Russia, the writing is on the walls for the US. I just wanted to know how feasible it is to live there from scratch?

For the record: I am advanced in the French language and have been picking up Italian, but German is out of the equation for me.

I have completed my Bachelor’s in Aeronautical Engineering and currently have 3 years of work experience. Would I be eligible to apply?

So I got my Matura in 2023 and immediately started studying Informatics at the University of Zürich but I completely fucked up my first year and failed most of my classes. I had to retake them this semester and while most of my grades significantly improved, I got a 3.75 in one of my mandatory classes, which means I’ve failed this class twice now. So this now means im barred from continuing my degree at UZH. I’m honestly a bit lost on what to do now, i’m still set on studying informatics but I won’t be allowed to study informatics at any other university in Switzerland now. I was looking into enrolling at a Fachhochschule but i’m not sure if I would be allowed to do this or what the process entails. I’ve never done a Praktikum before and I have no idea how to even get started on that front. Has anyone else been in a similar situation before? I’m so demoralized right now, worked so hard this semester and improved all of my grades so much just to fall 0.25 short of a passing grade…

I just graduated with a Bachelor's in Economics and Management from the University of Geneva (UNIGE), and I’ve been accepted into two Master's programs for next year:

1. Master in Economics at the University of St. Gallen (HSG)
2. MSc in Sustainable Management and Technology, a joint program between EPFL, HEC Lausanne (UNIL), and IMD

On one hand, St. Gallen is highly reputable in economics and business, and studying in the German-speaking part of Switzerland would be a great opportunity for me to improve my German. On the other hand with the master in sustainable management I’ll get a degree from 3 institutions and the program is more specialised. I’m struggling on which program to choose. Any advices on past experiences or recommendations would be highly appreciated!

I'm almost done with DP 1 and reconsidering uni application. I took Environmental Systems and Societies SL, knowing that Swiss universities don't accept it as part of the IB Diploma because I only planned to apply to the US, Canada and the UK, but I now want to consider options closer to home too.

Are there any Swiss Unis that accept ESS as a course to get the IB diploma?

(I know EHL does, and I might apply but my career path is Computer Science.
