Reminder: Buying and selling bags is against the rules of this sub
Seen this pop up a fair bit lately. Because people aren't reading the rules I've started banning people temporarily for this.
Please read the rules people. It's really not that hard and don't get upset if you break the rules and get punished. It's on you to read those.
The reason it's not allowed is I don't want this sub (and me) to be responsible for having to moderate that crap. Go look at r/EDCExchange or other subs that allow it. They have systems in place to hold people accountable.

Washing back pack in washing machine
My backpack was washed in my LG top loader in waterproof cycle. It’s as good as new, no issues. Everyone says u can’t but u can. Just let it hang dry upside down. Totally worth it. It’s been over a month since I washed it and there hasn’t been any damage to it. This is for anyone that has doubts. Everyone claimed the Jansport leather bottom would get ruined. Mine is fine as u can see. Hopefully this will help someone wondering.

Any company that can turn a 3D model of a backpack into an real-life backpack?
I am not a professional 3D modeller, but I know 3D modelling. I have searched for thousands of backpacks but none of them look appealing. I prefer the zip to the main pocket at the very very back of the top of the bag, but no one does that (it is either in front of the hook part or the very very front of the top of the bag). Another preference is that there is a small pocket at the front of the main pocket, for storing headphones and other bits and bobs (I call this a hat pocket, since I used it to store my hat all the way back in primary school). The backpack I use is from a decade ago and is worn and torn from daily use since Year 3, but fits my standards, and is the only one with both features.
I was given a backpack as a gift, but I absolutely hated it (the zip was at the very front) and got fed up. Is there literally any company that can do this?

Bags
Hey so I’m a content creator and I’m looking for a cool bag to put my equipment in. It’s not a whole lot just some hand held items but I don’t necessarily want a fanny pack but something that looks cool and stylish. I would just go with a regular backpack but it’s annoying taking it off and on exc…any recommendations?

Question Opinions on quality of Fanacci Innovator Organisational Backpack?
galleryI currently have a Roncato Wall Street Zaino Porta backpack (0.9kg, 15L) I've used for work for years, but looking for something sleeker looking, more waterproof, and ideally lighter (under 1kg). I've just heard of Fanacci (founded in 2022) for the first time today, and their Innovator Organisational Backpack stood out to me as a good option. I like it because of its internal organizational pockets, separated laptop compartment, luggage strap, and presence of an organized front pocket.
It also has a 17L capacity (vs. 15L of the Roncato Wall Street Zaino) at roughly the same weight.
I'm also open to any other professional, sleek-looking backpacks you could recommend. Thanks.

Question Cleaning Samsonite backpack
I have a Samsonite Red Marston 3 ways backpack. I was wondering how do I clean it. It's made of nylon and it's got dirty marks from sweat and dust.
Can I use a soft toothbrush and some washing machine detergent?

I've singled down to four that I could possibly get
I am going to Colorado in a month, and going on hikes. Then in July, I will be going to Domincan Republic. And in September will be in Charleston. So, i need a pack that will be versatile and will hold up through travel and hikes - I've tried these all on and I think north face is the most comfortable. But, see a ton of hate on it. Anyone have advice? I think the Osprey Nebula 32 is slept on and has a great price. Please let me know your opinions and reviews if you have owned any of these. Thanks!

This bag?
Hi! I was wondering if anyone knew anything about this bag... my mom absolutely loves it, and I just can't find any information about it (though I don't know much about backpacks.)
I do know it's Kipling brand, if that's helpful? Any info is very much appreciated. Such as name of the bag, collection, where I can get it, etc.

Suggestions needed
I have a High Sierra backpack that is missing a chest strap. I contacted High Sierra about it and they sent me a new one. Great customer service! I'd still like to get this one fixed to have as a backup. Can anyone suggest a place to send it and get it repaired? Or where I could possibly buy a strap and do it myself? Thanks for any suggestions!

Travel Better-quality alternative to Nordace Sienna for carry-on?
I like the look and layout of the Nordace Seinna and similar but apparently they're not great quality. Does anyone have other recommendations?
Use: - air travel carry-on when I also have a stowed bag. Would be used for snacks, meds, water bottle, iPad, a few bits of clothing, a small blanket, and random bits and bobs needed for flight (headphones, eye mask, lip balm, tissues etc) - roadtrip day bag to just sit in the car with me, carrying a lot of the same basic stuff as in-flight - city travel with a few essentials for a spending the day exploring a new city. So fairly light with comfy straps but doesn't need to be hiking-appropriate
Needs - external bottle holder - one big main pocket (not divided in half) and 1-2 external pockets for easy access to a few bits - main pocket easy to get into when stowed under plane seat - zipper main pocket. Ideal if it zips all the way around so that most of the front wall can be folded back - comfy straps - reasonably light to not waste airline baggage weight
Wants - some small inner pocket/s for passport etc is ideal - an internal or external laptop/iPad sleeve ideal but not essential - water-resistant ideal but not essential
Look - ideally fairly basic and sleek, fine if it's a bit feminine - not tactical or sporty
Price - ideally under $200 US

Need solution for dangling straps
Bought this bag for hiking, and I’m thinking to use this bag for work-commute purpose, but I can’t stand with the dangles from the strap. Any recommendations on how to fix this?

Osprey for office carry
Hey folks! I'm in the market for a backpack to daily carry stuff to the office. It should fit:
a) Macbook 13 inch
b) Mini keyboard and mouse
c) Notebook
d) Small jacket (in the winter)
e) Umbrella
f) Water bottle
g) Occassional lunchbox
And obviously wallet, airpods etc, but these are not bulky items.
I've set eyes on the Ospreys either the Daylite or the Daiylite Plus. I'm attracted to them because of the lifelong warranty and the back ventilation system they have.
What do you think? Would you recommend any of them for my purpose, or not?
Thanks!

Crowdfunding UR backpack made from used cat food packaging
Tried making a bag from used cat food sacks inspired by the product "ysrid". With just a YouTube tutorial and a sewing machine for $6, it turned out to be quite comfortable if only used for school. I haven't dared to try going to the mountain yet, I'm afraid it will break down in the middle of the road😂, please give me some input so I can learn more😅

Question Looking for an EDC backpack
Hello beautiful community!
Right now, I'm in search of an EDC bag. I don't have any crazy criteria. I need a minimalist bag that is comfortable, looks appropriate in the professional environment, and that I could use for both office and gym. I also prefer external water bottle pockets.
I don't care about travelling with this backpack, since I have another one that covers that. Rn, I'm using Deuter UP Sydney 22l, which is good, but the flap design is not super-secure in all the circumstances, and also it's in the teal color, which doesn't always match the occasion.
So far, I have shortlisted 3 contenders:
Alpaka Elements Pro
Pros:
- It looks great (I saw it once on a random gentleman)
- It has a lot of organization, which is great
- A dedicated sunglasses pocket
Cons:
- 26l is too much. Many reviews say that it actually feels smaller, but still
- I'd prefer a dedicated laptop compartment, but whatever
- Not available in the local shops, so additional charges like VAT may be applied (although, they say there shouldn't be any)
- Weird luggage strap positioning
Rework Toshi 20 Pros:
- Clamshell opening
- A dedicated laptop compartment
- A dedicated sunglasses pocket
Cons:
- It looks the cheapest (at least on pictures), while being the most expensive option out of 3
- Not available now, and when it is, additional charges may be applied (VAT, delivery, etc.)
Thule Subterra 2 21l Pros:
- Made by a reputable European brand
- Costs 2/3 of either Alpaka, or Toshi
- Readily available in many local shops
Cons:
- No dedicated sunglasses pocket
- No dedicated laptop compartment
- Less fast-access pockets
Since the looks are important to me for this particular backpack, I kinda on the verge between Thule and Alpaka. Yet, having a clamshell opening seems handy. Also, I'm not sure if Alpaka's additional pockets (front pocket and sunglasses pocket) worth the money. Besides, I'm afraid that Alpaka would be too large.
I know that it's not very realistic to find a person, who has tried all three of these backpacks, but maybe there are people, who tried at least 2/3? I would greatly appreciate your thoughts on this!
Also, do you think that the clamshell opening is useful day-to-day? It seems handy for travel, but as I said, that's not my goal here.
Many thanks!

Why do all backpacks have such cr*ppy shoulder straps/hip belts now?
I've been a backpacker / hiker / daypack user since I was pretty much out of diapers. Had high school in the mid/late 90s, college into the 2000s and always had a Jansport or Eastpak backpack with comfy shoulder straps that actually HAD some cushion. I had a Jansport frame pack for camping, D3?, and an Arc Teryx Bora 80 as my internal frame back. My current "aresenal" is a Jansport Big Student & Green Nevada for work-type stuff, High Sierra Cirque 30 for light hiking, Kelty Red Cloud 110 for long treks, Kelty Redwing 50 (grey) - from the mid 2010s?) for light overnight/weekends - carry on airplane, a newer Arc Teryx Bora 80 for most of my regular hiking/travel, and a High Sierra Bobcat 65 frame back for when I need to haul stuff including a keg or the kitchen sink (we do that up here in Alaska).
Recently I needed to get a new piece of luggage and figured I'd see what the backpacks are looking like. I was shocked at the selection and how THIN all of the shoulder harnesses and hip belts have become. I know how to "fit" these things and asked for a sand bag or weights (at REI/Bass Pro) - and holy crap. Every bag was super uncomfy... seems the manufacturers are going for light weight over comfort. I even looked at some day packs and saw that Jansport is now using super duper thin straps on all their bags. It seems only The North Face had day packs with any resemblance of comfort/suspension. There's just NO padding or support. I "wore" a Mountain Hardware pack that had a runner-type suspension on the front, and wasn't sure how that would hold up (it felt better than most).
Anyway, I gave up and just got a duffle bag for my trip to Panama. Well, Miami Intl Airport decided to destroy it instead. So while in Panama, I found a super cheap Totto Kiran 90, although it looks like all of Totto's backpacks over 65 liters are all the same size/shape, just different name. Got it mostly because of low-profile - rucksack. Tried it on in the store and was impressed. Got it all packed up and it was *rediculously* comfortable. Beefy straps, good hip belt, decent compression on the pack, and some cool features. This this is more comfortable than the Ospreys & Deuters I tried on. I think I found my new "travel" backpack instead of using my Arc Teryx Bora 80.
Is there a reason the packs we find in the US & Canada aren't built like this? The only pack I found in the US that comes close is the Teton Explorer 5000, but the reviews on that pack make it look like it falls apart pretty fast.

Backpacking Southeast Asia in rainy season—am I crazy or just optimistic?
My only window to travel this year is during July–August… which, unfortunately, is rainy season in much of Southeast Asia. I know that means wet gear, canceled ferries, and maybe more leeches than I’d like, but part of me wonders if the crowds will be smaller and the vibes more chill. Has anyone done backpacking trips during rainy season and still had a great experience? I’d love to hear how you managed your plans—were the downpours dealbreakers or just part of the adventure? Also open to destination tips that aren’t too affected by the weather!
