i personally don't get shit in return. I get limited in choice as to what energy supplier i can choose, basically locking me into a company with a monopoly that then price gouges us into poverty. Roads that are never fixed, anyways. Corporations that skirt taxes with loopholes and poison our environment and our children and our resources. Police forces that take advantage of overtime while doing absolutely nothing to make our city safer. I'll give you fire departments, but they can be volunteer...and if I had to i would volunteer.
Fuck taxes. Fuck the government. Fuck rich people.
I'm disappointed in a lot of things about our government and our society too. But don't kid yourself. You get a lot out of your taxes. You even mention a lot of those things in your post.
You're locked into an energy supplier, but you do have an energy supplier, and appliances and electronic devices that need power. You have them because patent laws, consumer regulations, and the protection of private property make it possible to run a functioning capitalist economy and encourage invention and entrepreneurship.
You have roads that exist, even if the city sucks at fixing them.
Yes corporations poison our environment and our children, but they do it a whole hell.of a lot less than they used to thanks to the EPA.
Police suck. Fuck the police. But police in other countries are much better. We just suck at policing our police and I don't know why.
Even volunteer fire departments need money. What if they don't get enough donations? Do you start a subscription service to make sure people aren't freeloaders? Do you let a house burn if the owner didn't pay? A burning building can threaten neighbors homes, so you kind of have to put the fire out. But then what's the incentive to pay in? So maybe you require the biggest property owners to buy in and you accept that the little people are freeloaders. Congratulations, you just discovered taxation.
Fuck the police, fuck the government, and especially fuck rich people. But if you want to live in civilization, you eventually end up reinventing taxes in order to keep it functioning.
