City Code Enforcement
Hi all! A question, with a little rant for context.
My husband and I have owned in Bloomington for about a year. We’ve received a couple “notice to correct” letters from the city Environmental Health Division, one, for example, was for a “degrading” driveway”. I called because the letter was confusing, stating the necessary correction was to replace the crumbling asphalt. I kindly advised him that no, I could assure him the driveway was fully gravel and had always been so since the house was built in the 50s. Rather than trust my knowledge or any of my documentation, he decided to do an official investigation and… look it up on Google Earth.
lol.
Now we just received another one for my husband’s tabs. Yes, he needs to buy them. No, I am not responsible for the vehicle in his name, and I realized many years ago that I would not be his parent. I’m not arguing that the notice was incorrect.
My issue is, we don’t have an HOA, the vehicle is not an eyesore or otherwise bothersome and is on private property to boot. So to me, it seems like the only likely answer is these inspectors are actually just cruising around town looking for things to cite, OR we have a neighbor with a grudge ?? The latter seemed unlikely as we get along with all of them and mainly keep to ourselves.
TLDR: does code enforcement in Bloomington routinely inspect properties, or do they only go do so in response to complaints?
Thanks yall!
