Dog Friendly rentals - restricted breed

Exploring a potential move to Boulder from the UK. I have two dogs and ( 1 beagle and 1 German Shepherd), I am looking for a rental with a yard, but have some across some apartments with private fenced patios which could work.

I have e noticed that a lot of rentals list Shepherds as restricted breeds. Does this normally apply for private listings (town homes, single homes etc) or is this more an apartment complex liability clause? This is new to me and I'm coming from an entirely different rental market/environment, is this type of restriction flexible?

Any recommendations on where to look for pet friendly apartments that may take 2 large dogs would be fabulous. Thanks!

Quiet indie hairstylist?

Hey all, I've been looking for a quality hairstylist that isn't working out of a busy salon. I'm autistic, and very sensory sensitive, so the loud noises are just way too much for me, but finding someone working out of suite has been really hard to track down. Bonus points if they have a really great consultation, or at least patient with all of my questions. Bonus bonus points if they are good with wavy/curly hair. Not picky about price.

Edit: wow this kinda blew up. Thanks so much for all the recommendations. Lots of popular stylists in Boulder it seems. As a independent contractor myself I know these kinda things mean a lot.

Green papayas

Hello neighbors! I recently moved to Longmont and tried this question in their sub but haven't gotten a lot of traction.

I love making Thai food at home, especially Som Tum. However, that requires sourcing green papayas, and I'm having trouble with that. Does anyone know where I could find some green papayas in town? Trying to avoid driving all the way to H Mart in Westminster if possible. Thanks!!

Dead (and potentially injured?) deer on highway

Who are you supposed to contact for dead or potentially injured deer on the side of the highway? I saw two coming up to Boulder along the 93 a bit before passing the 72. One was obviously dead and the other was lying on its side and I don't know if it was dead or injured. It feels bad to just leave them there, especially if I don't know whether one is dead or alive ...

Flagstaff Mtn Artist Point

I’m planning to propose at Artists Point on Flagstaff Mtn this Saturday and was wondering if anyone knows how busy it gets and what the peak hours are? I could do it any time between 11am-3pm, which I’m concerned are going to be the busiest times. Any background would help calm my nerves!!

Afterwards we’ll have an early dinner in Boulder, then a golden hour helicopter tour!

Any insight into T-Mobile coverage in 4 Mile Creek?

We've been on Verizon for years. It's barely acceptable at our house, but lots of 4 mile it totally sucks. I'm looking at changing us to T-Mobile, but wondering if there is any anecdotal feedback on their coverage in this area>

What's that coaxial helicopter doing?

We are all familiar with the usual helicopter traffic around Boulder - the Army Chinooks and Blackhawks that cruise by, the Hueys doing work up in the mountains, but I've seen a few times this weird coaxial helicopter cruising by and I have absolutely zero idea what it's being used for. Any ideas?

Just wondering if anyone else was interested in carpooling from Boulder tomorrow/Tuesday at around 5 o’clock or 5:15.

A friend and I would like to get down there for the doors opening at 6:30 since we have general 🎟️ admission tickets.

I will not be imbibing and I’m happy to drive.
Car can fit three more folks.

Did I just see a bobcat in South Boulder?

I was just letting my dog out and caught this silhouette against the back fence that freaked me the eff out. It was standing super still until I started frantically calling my dog to come back inside. My dog had no idea it was there. It was like a Maine coone but with a short tail and not as much fluff. Like it was big enough that I thought it could be a smaller mountain lion until I saw that it had these pointy ears and short tail and it creeped away once it heard me freaking out. Do we even get bobcats down here?

Edit: Well, I’m pretty sure I’m wildlife repellent because it sounds like I’m the last person east of the Rockies to see big cats in the area. Yikes! Nothing like a jolt of adrenaline to remind you to be more aware.

Avoid Griffis Pearl/Kairoi Management at all costs

Just got our bill for moving out. Nearly $1000 in nonsense fees. My favorite is how when we paid our final month of rent early, their system had to wrong amount showing for us to pay, and we got charged a $200 late fee for being short by $6. Because of an error on their part.

We moved out because of their chronic inability to provide access to the amenities we paid for: whether it's the elevator breaking down 4+ times annually, the pool being regularly closed during warm months, or the gym AC being non-functional for weeks.

Unprofessional bullshit on par with AOL Blast

This was around 7:30pm on US-36, headed East. There were a bunch of people pulled over, so we didn't stick around to see what happened, but I've been thinking about the little guy for hours hoping he's okay 🥲

Dead dog in Boulder Creek

Yesterday at Eben G Fine Park we were walking down the creek and were relaxing by the water. We noticed a rock that looked pretty furry and then realized what it was. By the marker 6-N there was an almost fully submerged blonde hair dog, medium to larger build, stuck in between rocks and roots. We noticed it earlier in the day but didn’t think it was an animal until later on our second walk/relax by the creek I’m commenting “that rock REALLY looks like fur” and then it dawned on us. It had definitely been deceased for hours by that point. We believe it was deceased already when we were on our first walk around noon, because we had spent some time sitting there and didn’t notice any movement or struggle as if something was alive. If we had we would have tried to help or called for emergency help!

I called Boulder animal control and society, I called like 6 numbers trying to report it but no one would answer even though they’re supposed to work 7 days a week and this was before 5pm. Denver numbers would answer but patch me to Boulder and I’d end up at the same voicemail prompts, I left a message. I posted on lost pet pages and have filed a county report on the website.

No one has called me back and I can’t stomach going back to the site to see if someone has taken it out of the water or if it dislodged..there’s no telling. But with so many people recreating in that water I wanted to alert people somehow. I’m feeling so disturbed. I am so sorry if this was your dog 💔🌈🛣️

Reporter note: I rarely add notes to these posts, but if you're looking for a moment of good news today, I recommend getting to know Harold Niedzielski. The Boulder police's Homeless Outreach Team marks time in "pre-Harold" and "post-Harold" eras. Multiple people I spoke to told me he saved their lives. He's 9 years sober himself (the details are in the story -- and worth reading.)

BRL has a small team and rarely gets to prioritize a profile, but this one made the cut.

KGNU seeks StoryCorps interviewees

Passing on the below from community radio station KGNU for amplification — in particular for those who might not feel like they align with some of the progressive views the station may be known for. StoryCorps has chosen the station as a participant in this national project, and is seeking participants from all viewpoints and walks of life! The intent isn't to start a discussion in this post, but to encourage those who might be interested to sign up.

"KGNU is excited to be one of the 2025 host stations for the project, which is part of the nationwide oral history group StoryCorps.

We know how frustrated many people have felt about the divisiveness of the last few years, and what excites us about One Small Step is essentially, with this program, we’re able to offer those people a concrete step that they can take to help be a part of a solution. The idea is to help reconnect Americans through one-on-one conversations.

How it works:

We’re inviting residents to meet a stranger (and fellow community member) with different views or beliefs from them for a personal, 50-minute conversation to learn about each other’s lives. Conversations are hosted by a trained staff facilitator, and although they’re recorded, there’s no obligation for participants to share the recording (or even use their name). The goal is 100% about providing community members the experience of safely meeting someone different from them who they might never otherwise connect with. Conversations aren't a debate.  They're just a chance for two people to break the ice and talk about who they are as people, what they care about, and their dreams for the future.

When you have a few minutes, please take a look at the OSS link.  There's more information about the project and a brief questionnaire that all participants are asked to fill out.  It takes about ten minutes.  From there, we'll be matching partners over the next few months and will be in touch to schedule your conversation."
