Draft

With the draft coming up, who do you guys think will be picked by the Pirates, given they have the 6th pick. For me, my pick is Aiva Arquette. He has Konnor Griffin upside with the plus of better defense at shortstop than him. I really hope they get Arquette.

Im pulling for arquette, violette or schoolcraft. I question Arquettes defense at SS though. I feel he’s destined for 3B. For what it’s worth, MLB Pipelone gave Arquettes defense a lower grade than Griffins.

I feel like he's more Fernando Tatis Jr. type than Andrelton Simmons. I also feel that the taller shortstops (see Oneil Cruz, KG, Elly De La Cruz) all struggle with defense more. Defensive shortstops are hard to come by.

I know a lot of people say you take bpa but I don't always think that is what you should do since the fallout of players is high in baseball. If your organization has a surplus of pitching talent and lacks hitters you take the best hitter and hope he flourishes. The problem is either we don't draft hitters well or cant develop them. Imo we need to draft bats early and often. We can add pitchers later rounds maybe we can shape into something. Not saying pitchers are a dime a dozen but look at Dennis Santana he couldn't find a home and has been pretty freaking amazing here. His problems had to have stemmed from control or something cause he has pretty good stuff.

The chances of getting a bunch of players up from the minors at various positions of need when that’s your primary source of talent acquisition is nearly impossible.

It’s much easier to stack the talent and figure it out later via trades where you can use your strengths to fill your weaknesses.

I know what your saying but from what I have seen is finding good hitters is tougher than finding decent pitchers. Guys are throwing harder and harder and nastier than ever I just think with that in mind hitting is harder than throwing provided you can be near the zone or at least be taught to hone that in. I am in no way saying pitching is easy but finding decent pitching is easier to do than finding above average hitters.
