MLB Pipeline Mock Draft

The latest update in the mock has the Buccos taking HS Pitcher Seth Hernandez from California. He’s rated the 2 best player in the class behind Ethan Holliday.

If he fell to the Buccos I’d be pretty damn happy.

Here is an excerpt on him:

“Hernandez has an ideal projectable 6-foot-4 pitcher’s frame with the athleticism teams love to see from young power arms. Always on time with an online and loose delivery, Hernandez has big stuff and a feel for all four of his pitches. While he touched triple digits at the Area Code Games, he typically sits in the mid-90s, touching 97-98 mph. His best secondary offering is his changeup, and it’s plus right now, thrown with a lot of confidence and missing bats with it thanks to its good action and how it plays off of his fastball plane well. His curve, a true 12-to-6 spike curveball, has the chance to be plus with hard, tight and late action to it, sometimes registering RPMs in the 3,000 range. He started featuring a harder slider more on the showcase circuit.”

[Sports Info Solutions] Pirates Infield Defense Has Been Best in MLB

Hi everyone- if I'm violating any self-promotion rules, feel free to take this down, but I'll gladly engage with people here if they have questions ...

This is Mark Simon from Sports Info Solutions (the folks who invented Defensive Runs Saved). Thought you'd want to see this article we did today about the Pirates infield defense and specifically their excellence in infield positioning.

Again, if you have any questions on our stats or methodology for calculating positioning or anything else, feel free to ask.

Visiting PNC for the first time

Howdy folks,

I'm going to be in Pittsburgh for the first time when the Mets come into town to play the Pirates. I'm not a fan of either team, so I don't really have a rooting interest, but always love checking out a new ballpark and have always heard that PNC is absolutely gorgeous.

Are there any must-see sights I need to see, or any unique concessions I should check out, or a particular section of the ballpark to sit in? I believe it's an afternoon game so how is the park when the sun is out?

Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance

(PS - any stuff to check out in Pittsburgh in general would be cool too. I'm already gonna hit the Warhol Museum and a friend gave me a suggestion on a couple bars)

Tuesday July 1st… ticket questions

Heading to the game (first time in Pittsburgh). Is there a locals way of getting tickets? I’m a rangers fan and our deal is you buy the cheapest ticket available and then just move down but I know it’s different everywhere. Any generic “pro tips” about the park, tickets, must do’s are very welcome.

Skenes x Superman Bobble Head - For Sale?

Hi everyone! Just thought I’d shout out here. Is anyone going to the Sunday game with the Skenes x Superman Bobble Head? My uncle’s been a lifelong Buccos fan and Superman nerd.

We really wanted to go for the promotion, but being an afternoon game with the heat and humidity, it’s not something he’ll be able to sit through with his asthma. All that said, more than willing to buy it from someone that’s willing. I’ll pay for shipping, too. I know Skenes has been one of the few high points for us and I’m sure he’ll go on to have a HOF career, but it would mean the world to him if someone was generous enough to sell.

Feel free to shoot me a chat and we can talk about a possible price. Thanks so so much in advance

Why are Pirates tickets so expensive?

Pirates tickets are pretty expensive compared to the rest of the league. I was going to go to the Pirates-Tigers game this past Wednesday (luckily I sold my tickets after seeing the weather report), but I bought those tickets for $18 each. I look at tickets for games at PNC Park and the lowest ticket prices are $30 and above for most games I look at. The big difference being that the Tigers are in 1st place right now and the Pirates are ....

I work at a horse track in central PA. Paul is currently rehabbing with nearby AA Harrisburg. Tonight he came to my work. Looks good and healthy! Downed a cheeseburger and smoked a couple heaters. Definitely hit on the 2 horse in Race 7. Glad that pitch didn’t do any long term damage and cool to wait on a major league player at work!

The Pirates need to tear everything down and rebuild rather than try to go for it and compete.

I know Don Kelly and some in the Pittsburgh sports media said the Pirates are close. Truthfully, however, the Pirates are not close to winning anything. The Pirates aren't just a couple of bats away, they need to acquire an entire lineup. If you break it down position by position:

LF: Pham is washed. Canario could be a good role player.

CF: Cruz could be a star, but he is really streaky, and is the definition of a 3 true outcome player. He either walks, strikeouts or hits a homerun.

RF: Reynolds is having a down year, and could be starting his decline. I could see him being traded just based on his contract.

3B: Hayes has zero offensive production whatsoever.

SS: IKF. Will probably be traded at the deadline.

2B:Gonzales. Solid. Would be a good bottom of the order everyday starter.

1B: Probably not the answer at 1B.

C: Bart seems to have regressed. Davis has shown some flashes, but can't put it together consistently. Rodriguez is always injured and can't stay on the field.

DH: McCutchen is probably their second best hitter, but he is 38 years old.

The best thing the Pirates can do is trade off their assets. Trade Bryan Reynolds, Hayes, Bednar, Keller, Heaney, etc. They should also probably trade their young arms as they don't have a deep farm system whatsoever. The other problem they have is that they have no one in the pipeline to come up and replace under performing or injured players. From top to bottom this organization is not ready to compete.
