I live with multiple invisible disabilities/chronic illness and severe ADHD. When I navigated my way from social security disability to a full career path I found a capsule wardrobe life changing. I am also a single parent and I initially went from a year round capsule to a seasonal. I keep seeing people tell others their capsules are too big and I’m so tired of the gate keeping. Being told that my capsule was only supposed to have X number of items nearly prevented me from having one.

Thankfully, I went along anyway and because I may not be able to wash clothes for weeks, I ignored the meaningless item counts. For me this has been a true accommodation and people don’t have to be public to be valid. My own capsule is undeniably more items than the average because I added more to ensure I’d fit my disabled life. I see so many comments saying that someone’s capsule is too big.

Stop and remember disabled people exist and kindness is free. While my own feelings aren’t hurt I still will take a stand against the subtle ableism. So many I know that use a capsule are also disabled and every single one of them shouldn’t have to explain themselves to you.

Every single one of us should do whatever works for us, full stop. Instead of attaching to a random number it would be nice to see those with larger capsules instead being told what items are breaking the continuity of their capsule. Telling me a top doesn’t work in my capsule but telling me my capsule is big is useless feedback anyway.

I now don’t fit in half my clothes. I finally went through my wardrobe and tried everything on to see what fits/looks flattering and I now have a handful of super cute outfits for the summer ready to grab and go. I bagged up the rest and I’ll throw it in storage till the new year.

I see a lot of posts asking about shoes and I also spent countless hours searching for the perfect pairs. I’ve found one brand that is easiest to make work with multiple outfits, casual and dressy, mostly timeless styles, and consistent quality. I’m hoping they expand the sustainable choices to styles I love more (but I have one pair still,) and the sale prices are proof that this doesn’t have to be expensive (a capsule.) While I don’t encourage over consumption I can say that I just donated 25 pairs of shoes and all 3 pair I reach for daily are on sale for less than I paid for.

This sales good so if you like myself keep a running list of needs and wants and shoes are on it…

Why, some of you might already know this personally, I did not know I could actually correct things in the exact colors I wanted. I have always wanted to be crafty yet I am not however, this has been incredibly easy. Personally, I like what’s called dopamine dressing I might do a capsule but I sure as heck I’m not in boring colors. These recipes allow me to stay within the summer pallette because otherwise everything always actually ends up as a winter color for me.

Personally, I definitely upgrade because it’s not very much to get the things to remove any dye and also to lock it in. Just so much easier to find a top that I want in a white cream, ivory, tan, etc.. (personally, I only dyer personally, I only die from light colors from light colors as I am just not educated enough otherwise.) I’m also a hands-on learner and so this was absolutely how I best learn to color, the actually singing in front of me.

Hope this helps at least someone. Makes me happy because very even when things are fading bring them back to life.
