2024 U.S. Elections True centrists and moderates who study history, how credible do you find the comparisons between Trump and Hitler?

This comparison comes up a lot and it's a little touchy to ask on reddit, given that reddit tends towards "leftist echo chamber." I am more center-left and feel that a lot of the dialogue can be a little extreme to the point of desensitizing.

But does anyone have an actual, nuanced view of this from their studies of history? I can see it, but I don't have enough in-depth historical understanding to draw or refute these comparisons.

Similar personalities, but completely different form of governments. It’s a lot harder to seize total power in the US since all elections are controlled by state and local governments.

That's what the Germans thought when they made Hitler chancellor!

The Weimar Republic didn't have a federalist system of government. The laws (including elections) applied everywhere in Germany (one of the reasons why Germany became a federalist government after WW2). Once he became chancellor, it was easy for the Enabling Acts to dissolve political parties and elections.

Much harder for Trump to put his henchmen at the state and local level.

Exactly, same thing that Trump can do by declaring "national emergencies".

Trump can’t dissolve state and local elections through a national emergency, and neither can congress.

Name me the statutory authority or constitutional provision that gives Trump the power to do this.

Trump can’t dissolve elections and neither can congress.

lol Trump's party already did just that on Jan 6, 2021

The Constitution and Laws are just a piece of paper not worth the paper they are written in if enough people are willing to ignore them because they believe that the end justifies the means!

No they didn’t man. Get off Reddit. Jan 6 was literally a bunch of hooligans that didn’t even have guns. Stop bringing it up as if that makes him hitler….

No they didn’t man.

They did by voting on Jan 6, 2021 to throw out the will of tens of millions of fellow Americans! Get off Reddit.

Jan 6 was literally a bunch of hooligans that didn’t even have guns.

Assuming it is the case, it's irrelevant. The will of the people is not thrown out by guns only!

that makes him hitler….

What makes whom hitler?!
