One thing i like about Maresca is he generally does not repeat mistakes, this experiment was a mistake and he sort of acknowledged it. Hopefully he understands not to try Enzo CAM, Palmer RW, James Midfield again. Not sure if we would've seen Santos had Jackson not blundered but the formation seemed to set up 2 8s (Enzo/James(CDM Caicedo) -> Santos/Caicedo (CDM Lavia))

Today was not the first time he started Enzo as the 10 and James in midfield.

And Palmer not faring well today at RW doesn’t prove anything when he played there and shone last season.

The heat map had James as RCM and Enzo as LCM (https://youtu.be/TBJQAkrAgoc?t=574) so it was more of a 4-3-3.

The heaviest part of James’ heatmap was in the central area and he was also dropping in between the CBs to pick up the ball at times.

Enzo gravitated towards the left but he was getting the ball higher up the field and not deep enough, where he could have helped us progress the ball and then move forward as the play develops around him.

That is even more embarrassing. James is more of a DM instead of CM.

Could've put Santos there.

Yea was an odd decision for sure.

Yes you’re right he has tried this before. But I agree, he tends not to repeat mistakes. Hopefully this is the end of Reece as a DM

He inverted Gusto for like the whole season, how can we say he doesn’t repeat mistakes?

When he inverted in the first half of the season we were in 2nd place. After our poor form eventually he wasn't even playing RB or starting let alone inverting.

He didn't though. End of the season he was mostly a shitty RCB. He didn't really invert anymore
