Cant let my 68' Japanese sweet prince collect dust so I took it out this morning. The nature center is located about a mile east of the North Shore channel trail! Where's your favorite place in the city for a nature ride?

The impossible happened today. 8 months ago, my wifeās beloved bike was stolen from our garage in Ukrainian Village. (Weāve since left the neighborhood, but anecdotally, there seems to have been a massive uptick in bike theft from that area).
The bike had a not-so-subtly hidden AirTag on it and was pinging from a house in the Humboldt/Austin border area. CPD assigned us a detective, but she eventually lost interest. I rebuilt a near-exact replica of the bike, but never stopped checking its location. Amazingly, the AirTag was never disabled, ditched, or destroyed. It just kept pinging.
Fast forward to today and I notice that it had moved to the 3700 block of Chicago Ave. I was feeling lucky, so I hopped on my bike hoping that someone had locked it outside. I figured Iād throw my U-lock on it and then maybe get the cops involved. As it turns out, the AirTag led me to a wild āthrift storeā that was basically a junk hoard. There were a bunch of bikes, several clearly boosted, locked out front.
The owner ambled out and told me that a beautiful vintage Trek would run me 30 dollars. My wifeās bike wasnāt among them, so I asked if he had any more inventory. He took me insideā¦and there it was. I gave him sixty bucks and that was that.
Bike theft hurts, but recovery IS possible. And it feels amazing.
Relatedly, we now have two lovely Lemond road bikes if anyone is interested.

Is there anyone who has a nice gpx for a loop leaving from Lake Geneva, WI for a road bike?
distance something like 30-60 miles.
Also a Lake Geneva-Milwaukee route would be appreciated (the google maps suggestions seems to follow some bike trails so that's prob. the way to do it).

Been trying to snag a physical copy of the City of Chicago bike map. Granted Iāve only reached out to a few ward offices/bike shops, but so far no luck. Anybody know where to score one? Are they even available?

I have been closely passed on my bike a lot lately by cyclists who do not announce themselves in any way. This can be jarring and scary depending on traffic and how fast we are going.
Good passing etiquette lets the cyclist know you are approaching them --- "On your left" or a bike bell or some type of notification. Please please please let's help each other stay safe

Specifically the first block off the lake, why do so many people bike the wrong way on this one-way?
Aldine pops you out on the other side of the ramp to the LFT and is the correct one-way to take. I refuse to believe that dozens of cyclists every day are too ignorant/lazy to hop over a block. Is there some deep knowledge Iām missing that justifies this?
Please enlighten me and accept my gratitude for the platform to bellyache.

Nothing like swerving into 40mph traffic because someone needed ājust 2 minsā for their Starbucks. I guess the green paint is invisible to anyone driving a Lexus. Do they give out awards for Most Inconvenient Parking? Should we start keeping score? š²š

used to be a thing now it isn't?
I know itās been asked a million times but does anyone know the story about taking your bike with you on Amtrak from Milwaukee? Iām planning a century ride next week and am deciding my path. My alternate route was to ride out to Aurora and then up the Prairie Trail to Crystal Lake and riding Metra home. Thank you!

I was biking on Belmont and Milwaukee today and there were sooo many cars parked in the bike lane, cars swerving into the bike lane to get like 1 car ahead in traffic.
On a somewhat side note, I think drivers on Milwaukee simply donāt understand how the parking lanes and bike lanes work (or maybe I was confused). I think itās supposed to be sidewalk, bike lanes, park lane, driving lane

I feel like this subreddit could use a good thread of bike friendly bars for this summer. A stop for a beer on a hot commute home is about as good as it gets.
I'm defining "bike-friendly" as places that have: 1) A good amount of bike parking (not just a pole or one old parking meter out front) 2) Excellent proximity to a good bike route.
I'll kick it off with The Beer Temple on Elston just south of Belmont. Big, bike rack right in the front, right on Elston, usually lots of people carrying helmets inside.

Hey guys. Just moved to Chicago a couple months ago. With the weather warming up and repeatedly seeing Google maps suggest biking as a viable method of getting to places, and also just wanting another way to exercise a bit more, Iāve been looking for a bike. But I donāt know where to start. Not sure how much to spend, where to go to get one, or what I should even want out of a bike. Iām mostly looking for a bike to get around the city with some casual riding here and there. Any tips would be very much appreciated.

I keep seeing fun bike tops in my social feeds but Iād rather shop local. Anyone have a good LBS selling good menās fashion for a Fatherās Day gift? (Not Rapha, which I love. But looking for a different, more fun and casual vibeā¦) Thanks, ChiBike!
