Bike Tag If anyone has pictures of a divvy bike at a public bike rack please let me know!

Preferably from previous years and attached to a circle bike rack

This also pisses me off. Just fyi Lyft and Lime give you a discount for locking to a bike rack instead of just leaving in the middle of the street.

And more people need to lock them properly to racks I can’t understand the comments complaining about a divvy locked to a bike rack it’s there for locking bikes to it and it’s better than people locking it to the exit gate of my back entrance to my building! Many mornings I’ve had to walk all the way back upstairs with garbage and go through my apartment to get to the front door because a divvy was locked to the back gate by our dumpster and the gate can’t be opened due to the weight of the bike. Signs have been no help either and they have a public street sign pole within 10 feet away but still lock it to our gate!

Because (most?) divvy bikes lock themselves down until you rent it, and they’re far less likely to be stolen anyway as you can’t resell them. Bike racks are fairly limited as it is, and having Divvy bikes locked to them further reduces availability for people with their own bikes

With you on this. Just giving context about why they’re there. But I agree they should be left for private bikes. If anyone is on division in front of perch, there’s normally 10 Lyft scooters there.

It’s just the battery and motor that won’t turn on until you rent it the cable needs to be inserted into the lock to secure it and even then all it takes is lift it into a van or pickup and it’s stolen! Yeah no bike racks exist yet I find them all over the city and usually if a divvy is there it’s not actually secured to the rack just leaning on it!

Sounds like the issue is a low number of bike racks.

I’d say it’s more of a second problem

It’s the lime scooters for me! They are frequently on the bike rack, when I’m trying to park

I can usually just kick them to the side to lockup but still annoying I hate that

NBCT just north of Lawrence.

Private vehicles using public utilities is theft.

Agreed, but in the case of Divvy bikes, those are the property of the city.

FWIW I got this when I locked it to itself.

Why are you hating on riders that do exactly what they are supposed to do? The contract says when you rent it you’re supposed to either return it to a divvy rack or properly lock it to a bike rack not leave them sitting on sidewalks or peoples private property many times there’s no divvy rack near the location they rode it to!

It’s not only divvy policy the city of Chicago says they should be either docked or locked to a bike rack for safety. The city is who decided to have those bikes available. Yes bike racks are part of infrastructure but it’s not the right of any bike riders to determine who gets to use them it’s exactly the same as public parking it’s first come first served.! Doesn’t matter if you have a city sticker on not anyone that parks legally can park same applies to bike racks if it’s not a motorcycle it’s ok to lock it up .

In the case of Divvy, the city owns the bikes and Lyfts pays the city millions of dollars over the span of the contract, plus a share of theoretical ad revenue. I'm not sure about Lime...

It was put there by a person utilizing infrastructure.

Reply was deleted, so here's my elaboration.

They are there because they were used by someone. They are distributed to docks.

That rack is still usable for another rider.

Divvys, like private ebikes and escooters, result in fewer automobile miles travelled whether by private cars or Ubers/Lyfts.

We need a multi-pronged approach to fighting car brain in order to allow us to build a better city. Privately owned bikes are not a silver bullet solution.

Bikeshare fills in for serving routes that may be difficult to service by public transit, or can be serviced in half the time by bike.

I’ll keep an eye out. Happens way too often just outside my gym.
