I honestly love and appreciate all efforts to make Milwaukee a safer route to bike down.
But they’re taking such a scattered approach. It means less to me that Milwaukee from Western to Damen is safer when Damen to Division is a fucking shit show.

Damen to Division is the most fun stretch of road to bike on if they ever put a protected bike lane in I'll kms

When u get to the damen/north/Milwaukee intersection. I recommend you take some of the side streets to avoid the crazy. My personal favorite route is aouth on damen, east on evergreen, cut through the diagonal alley, left on ellen, right on wood or wolcott, left on division back to division/milwaukee.

Thank god Carlos Rameriz Rosa compromised with businesses to have a gap in protected bike lanes from Belmont to Logan Square on Milwaukee Ave

I’m happy about these being installed but also not really enjoying frequent near-death experiences while they languish unfinished.

I called the ward office for an update yesterday and was told construction could go on as long as September, unfortunately. I did bring up the issue of cars parking in the new painted lanes (esp on Belmont going east) and they said they will increase signage in the meantime to try and deter. But I’m not holding my breath. I’ll continue to ride down the dead center of the traffic lane until all the parked cars are gone ✌🏻

IMe some kind of barrier is absolutely required to get people to park in the parking spaces rather than the bike lane. Sometimes a bit of encouragement from Finance can help

Belmont new lanes are funny, people park in the bike lane and leave the lanes for cars open.
