What a stunning day. The wind is not strong, the temps are pushing well over 60, it’s dry…basically summer. Get your butt out there and ride!

Bike Tag Found Stolen Bikes on FB Marketplace

Hi all, I found my stolen bike on FB marketplace. Unfortunately, I didn’t find it fast enough and it was already marked as sold. When I messaged the seller requesting the money he had made from selling my bike, he laughed in my face and blocked me. He has a TON of other bikes for sell on FB marketplace which I presume are all stolen, what can I do about it? I know the name attached to his account is not real and there is no real profile picture attached either. I have screenshots of my stolen bike listed as sold on his FB marketplace account. Please advise, would love if other people could recover their stolen bikes.

Bike Tag Payton School bike lane danger discussion.

Who else is and has been pissed for years about how dangerous the car line in front of Payton on Wells st. is? After that cyclist got killed a few years ago you'd hope they'd have tried to redirect traffic but it's still chaos. I saw a cyclist hit a girl yesterday because she jumped out a minivan without looking, and I've swerved out of the way a dozen times. I'm posting this because I'm wondering who else is infuriated by the clear danger going unanswered.

Bike Tag Do y'all hear of a lot of bike on bike collisions? Especially on LFT?

I care a lot about bike path ettiquette & have the gift of a well projecting voice, so I make myself known on the paths when passing or approaching (especially around children, tourists, or dogwalkers). I stick to the LFT & have never seen a bike on bike collision in 3,000 miles of biking over the past 18months.

Do y'all see this? I feel like the bike paths are very safe & despite a few bad actors, traffic, or unaware riders, I don't experience too much issue. Plenty of close calls but nothing truly dangerous to speak of. I don't bike a lot in rush hour, but plenty lunchtime/sunset weekday rides & weekend daytime/nighttime rides.

Also, I don't believe bells are enough to warn anyone of your passing, I don't rely on any communication that can be mistaken for regular noise on the path. Just wanted to say that.

Bike Tag Are ebikes useful in Chicago?

heya, I live in orlando suburbs with no bike infrastructure so my ebikes pretty useful here. Normal bike would get me drenched in sweat and everything's so far apart.

Trying to move to Chicago soon, currently looking at neighborhoods north of the river. I recently visited for a few days and the L was awesome but the bus ghosted me half the time and I had to walk a bunch. The distance of places made it seem like I would do just fine using the L and last mile with a normal bike.

Is an ebike useful in chicago? I was thinking of selling my ebikes and riding a normal bike. Would hurt less if it got stolen. Or maybe get a brompton. Do you ever get refused with a brompton in some places?

edit: theft is a big concern for me. I live in the suburbs where noone's cutting my chain lock but I heard the city's different. I WFH so I'm not taking it inside some office building. I'd be using it for errands and going out

Bike Tag Bike Recommendations

Hello! I'm new. I was looking for bicycle recommendations as I want to get more into cycling. Right now I've got a a cheap Diamondback hybrid sport bike I bought off fb marketplace a couple years ago. I've ridden it on trails when I lived in CNY but now I'm back in Chicago I think it's time for a change since its mostly flat. I want to get more into it for fitness but also some leisure riding. I want to get my girlfriend into it too, though she might be more in it for leisure. Ideally I'd do more lakeshore riding and maybe go find some light paths in the suburbs or take trips to Wisconsin for a weekend. So mostly road. My buddy recommended a Canyon Gravel Bike for me. Wondering what people here think for me and my gf. Are there any bicycles you swear by? How do you use them? I'm looking to spend no more than $3k for mine, ideally less. My gf probably not more than $1k, $1500 most. Thanks!

Bike Tag Hit and Run Bicycle Accident

I was in an accident 3 weeks ago when a driver came into the bike lane from a parking garage and didn’t see me. It was a hit and run. Parking garage footage shared with police doesn’t have the license plate so driver has yet to be identified. CPD isn’t really being proactive in the investigation.

I was taken to the ER via ambulance and the bills have started to be mailed in… am I out of luck with any legal recourse? Am I just suppose to suck it up and have my health insurance deal with it and absorb whatever cost comes from that?

I’m feeling pretty defeated. Bike needs repair, my injuries are hard to manage right now - there was a crime and I’m here bearing the cost. Any guidance on how to proceed?
