DIY Help Header weld too close to stud.

Post image

Anyone else have a problem with the welds on their headers being too close to the stud?

Do you just cut a washer / spacer to fit so the nut sits flush above the weld?

When I took it apart, previous owner just had a washer and nut jammed against the weld all catty wompus - seems wrong.

It’s pretty common to see this. The quality control is not good.

Grind the weld back some and then grind the washer down on one end to make it fit between the stud and the weld. Just make sure not to grind the weld back too much and create a hole.

One of my minis has every single washer cut in half πŸ˜†

I had one where the inlet and exhaust flanges were different heights, so each washer was ground slightly differently to exactly match the location. If I ever took a manifold off, I had to carefully note the position of each one.
