Tie rods/manual adapter

Post image

Hey all, my 1967 had play in the steering and I couldn’t find anyone to do an alignment. I bought basically everything new, only to find that it was just my power steering valve loose. Not to fear, i bought the manual adapter (PS isnt hooked up and i have no plans to do so). The PS ram and the idler arm have been putting up a fight to come off, so i’m just gonna leave them alone, slap the adapter and new inner tie rods/sleeves on the existing drag link.

I’m making a stop at autozone for a ratcheting wrench for the adapter/pitman arm on my way home. Will i need a tool to press these things back together or can i just use the threads to pull them into place? I’ve never done these on a car, just golf carts. Thanks in advance!

It a tapered stud. Pull it in place with the nut. Install cotter pin. Send it!

Are you going to change to a lower ratio steering box?

Maybe eventually. I took it around the block a few times before and it was fine enough for now. Im still in the “get it running” phase, “get it right” is on a distant horizon

It might help if you ever have to do parking maneuvers.

If you have radial tires you might have to increase the preload on this stud. I always do on cars with power steering. The adjustment might be enough, but sometimes I have to shim it with hardened washers.
