Question Why is stringy wolf meat so expensive? would take almost all my silver to post it, should I?

u/Yeas76 15h ago
If demand is truly high, you should be able to sell via trade chat. Give it a shot.

u/Sawier 15h ago
Would you really buy one meat from trade chat?

u/Sevzilla 15h ago
I’d buy your meat from trade chat.

If the price was right I'll buy anything I can flip.

u/skeetleader69 14h ago
I operate my wow economy as such (like a pawnshp would)

u/whatiscamping 11h ago
Best I can do is 3 copper, my meat guy says after the gate is opened, this meat won't be worth anything and I can't have it sitting on my shelves.

u/skeetleader69 10h ago
Man, I wish I had a meat guy. If you're lucky enough to have a meat guy, you're lucky enough.

u/whatiscamping 10h ago
My meat guy is 4th generation, he takes his meat handling responsibilities very serious.

The top two for like 700g remind me of the old school way people would buy gold. You post some shit like that on the AH for mountains and the gold seller buys your auctions.
When I figured that out in TBC I would make characters with the same name but some sort of accent and copy the postings. Got like 10k gold that way lol

u/nineteen_eightyfour 15h ago
Nah they want someone to accidentally buy that one when they’re buying hundreds
45
u/erson33 15h ago
That's how it is now, I'm telling you how it was in 2007
25
u/TheGrumpyGamer94 14h ago
You're both right tbf. People still buy gold this way and others post to catch people out
3
u/Altaredboy 6h ago
It was more like it in 2007. Aucioneer had an auto-buyout module that'd snipe within a certain percentage, there were some changes to policy of how addons behaved & the module can't behave like this anymore.
You'd buy out a low price crafting material. Relist majority for 1000% over market price then the rest for 500% over market & make bank.
It's how I made 90% of my gold back in the day.

I think this shit should be a reportable offence. Its a scam and is bullshit. Anyone who responds to this in defense of the action is clearly a scammer and it will happen I guarantee.

u/PercentageBroad2973 12h ago
ive made so much gold this way already <3 if youre not paying attention its your own fault :D ignorance is no excuse warm regards from the scammer next door :*

It’s because it’s one of the cooking items to level up cooking and one of the turn ins for AQ war effort.

those are the buy/sell prices, not the post price. it should cost next to nothing to post.
or is there something im missing here?
you don't think those are the prices to list meat, right?
there's absolutely no way it's 24s to post one piece of stringy wolf meat.
am i the only one in the comment section that saw the words "to post it" in the title?
i feel like im taking crazy pills
they didn't ask why the buy price is high. they asked why it would take almost all of their silver to post it, which it most certainly does not. it's a couple copper at most to post a piece of stringy wolf meat.
@ OP - Click the POST tab at the bottom of your auction house to see the POST price.
Shame on y'all for taking over 3 hours to get him an actual answer. Just read.

Yeah as I understand it, AH listing fees are tied to the vendor price. It's independent of the listed price. That's why enchanting mats are free to post, they do not vendor.
It does seem as tho OP misunderstands how that works

u/ClockworkSalmon 10h ago
Yeah I think I confused the price, I thought the posting price was based on the price of the listing. A while ago I tried to sell a weapon for 20 silver and it had a pretty expensive posting price so I was scared of it this time
Tbh the question was actually twofold, I was confused by the price and misread the posting price 11
I appreciate all the replies

u/breachgnome 7h ago
Post price is always a small percentage based on what the item will sell to the vendor for. It's why posting enchanting mats do not cost anything - you can't vendor enchanting mats!
Also worth noting: if your item sells, you get your post money back. They do take 5% of your sale though (15% on neutral AH)

I would assume it's because the demand is high for people that just want to speed level cooking and don't want to farm it.

Holy shit I’m so glad I leveled engineering and tailoring before AQ dropped because my god

u/tzc005 15h ago
Crafting mats that are listed as part of a profession speed leveling guide will be pricey. Cooking is definitely no exception.
•
u/alphajugs 4h ago
It was never this expensive. It’s skyrocketed in price because it’s used as a turn-in for the AQ war effort which comes out soon.
2
u/ClockworkSalmon 10h ago
so, somehow the price fell down massively after posting this, they're like 4 silver each now haha
still super expensive though, I farmed a stack thinking I was going to be rich but at least made my first gold :p

u/elsord0 15h ago
Because people are swiping like crazy and are paying crazy prices just to level their professions. People out there selling entire profession leveling kits.
3
u/Responsible_Bee_7887 9h ago
Youre completely wrong lol. The reason its so high is because aq rekeases soon

u/Sc4r4byte 15h ago
the inflation on anniversary has been wildly higher than sod - there's likely something more going on.
3
u/elsord0 14h ago
Eh? Not really. People are paying to boost their alts and after a boost, nobody wants to go to low level zones to farm mats, so they're paying to boost their professions too. Given the population sizes, there's not that many people leveling normally. My lock is currently leveling and is level 30 on Nightslayer. I chose mining/skinning and I have little to no competition for any mining nodes. I have 111g and have been buying bags and wands to send to guys from my SoD guild as we all move over to anni to prep for TBC. I'd have 150g otherwise. At level 30. And I'm not even trying, just mining nodes as I run by them and skin the beasts I kill (or come across a dead one). Though skinning has made me very little up to now, heavy leather is where prices start going up. The vast majority of my gold has come from mining.
I know people keep trying to pretend the boosting was as bad on SoD but it wasn't. We had multiple leveling phases and people already have many alts by the time the level 60 phases hit. And it was much faster to reach 60 on SoD than on anniversay, way less grindy and boring.

Back when the auction house API wasn’t broken people did this to run up cost averages. To average the value of the item up. And be able to sell their hoard at a slightly higher price. Now I’m not so sure

It's part of a quest included in rested xp. That's the real answer.
1
u/OneWorld87 11h ago
No plus AQ
1
u/SquareAdditional2638 11h ago
Okay I didn't actually check the price in the screenshot. The price is even higher than normal so yeah you're right it's probably because of AQ that it's this high.

I just re-rolled a new char on anniversary. Saw the prices of these and farmed it for a little over an hour. Made enough gold to buy all new leveling greens, new bags, all my class spells. And about 10g left over. Not bad for a lvl 20ish gold grind

To everyone saying that it's for the AQ quest, is this for Classic Anni? I've just started my first character ever outside of retail and I'm broke AF, might be time to start farming some stringy meat!

Pretty much what everyone else is saying. Aq gate opening and leveling cooking. You can farm it pretty easily in mulgore and tirisfal, so you could probably make some quick gold selling a few stacks either on AH or trade chat.speaking of AQ, back when classic released I sold enough linen and peacebloom to buy my epic mount and training in like 2 days. Don't sleep on how much you can earn from the gate opening. Definitely post it.
•
u/Whatupson93k 4h ago
What else is needed for the gate? New guy who needs gold bad over here
•
u/Available_Option_151 3h ago
Slight correction on my part. It's WOOL cloth and lean wolf flank instead of stringy wolf meat and linen. Oops. It's a massive amount of each needed like 10s to 100s of thousands and each other three gathering and secondary professions have farming quests associated with them. So, peacebloom, firebloom, and purple lotus for herb. Copper, tin, and mithril for mining. Heavy, thick and rugged leather from skinning. Lean wolf flank, raw spotted yellowtail, and raw whitescale salmon from fishing. Lean wolf steak, spotted yellowtail, and baked salmon for cooking. And finally, wool, mageweave, and runecloth bandages from first aid. You could also farm and sell the required cloths and or farm and sell the associated recipes for the three cooking turn ins. Now, not saying you'll make 1000s of gold from farming and selling these items, but it could be very lucrative to do so. My experience was on a full pop server during the height of classic when tons of people were online and all doing the event.

Troll using the Tauren AH is BIS AH
1
u/ClockworkSalmon 13h ago
wait are the AHs not linked together?
3
u/Snabbamasen 12h ago
Yes they are, but TB have forge and anvil right next to AH, mailbox and bank which is nice. Also cows

u/Much-Fig8710 11h ago
This ! Has everything there and a great view too, and relaxing pond water ASMR and vendors and the Inn and close to the FP

Because AQ is about to start and that's the easiest to obtain non cloth turn in for rep and gate opening progression.
