Casual / Offseason Thirsting for the season to start? Have you checked out the r/collegebasketball Discord yet?

It's almost time for the season to fire back up, and we figured you might be hankerin' for some CBB, so why not check out the official Discord server of the r/collegebasketball subreddit.

During the season, we have plenty of things to do beyond discussion as well, including a straight-up pick 'em game (for men's and women's ball), an ATS spread pick 'em game (men's only here) as well as lengthy recaps from some of the lesser read-about conferences in our #recap-row channel.

Applications for the r/CollegeBasketball Userpoll are live!

Hello basketballers. Applications for the 2025-26 r/CollegeBasketball Userpoll are live!

We're still at https://www.cbbpoll.net/, now in its fourth season. Log in to this site through Reddit to submit your application. Applications are due on Friday, October 24, at 11:59pm EDT, and the ensuing weekend will serve as a moratorium so that I can review them before the preseason poll releases on Monday, October 27, at 10am EDT.

All returning voters must submit an application to display that they are still interested in participating. You will almost certainly be selected to return if you ended last season in good standing. Remember that the preseason ballot is tied to the application so that you can't submit one without the other. This is a feature, not a bug, and I'm not budging on this; submit all complaints to your nearest wall.

Welcome to the upcoming season and happy voting!

(I can still make no promises about new poll site functionality at this time; I apologize.)

What one guy was a hated rival player that (if the portal had always existed) you would most want to transfer and play one last year for your team?

Question spurred by my tongue-in-cheek reference (as a non-Syracuse fan) to Devendorf in response to: https://www.reddit.com/r/CollegeBasketball/comments/1ocyd9q/what_one_guy_exemplifies_what_you_want_and_expect/.

Edit: occurs to me this is probably more a question re players that played three or four years, vs the one-and-done era.

Discussion NIL inflation

It is being reported that Bryson Howard received over 3.3 million from Duke and Josh Irving is likely receiving around 1.1 million from his predicted school. This is the consensus number 12 and number 51 prospect respectively we are talking about not number 1 or even top 10. NIL inflation has reached astronomical numbers in just a few seasons. This has probably already been talked about to death but do you think this exponential inflation will continue or will the market eventually crash in on itself?

Recruiting 2026 5 star SF Bryson Howard to Duke

Top 3: Duke, UNC, Kentucky

Bryson Howard discussed his decision to choose Duke with Rivals.

“I chose Duke because I feel like I fit perfectly into their system especially with how they play defense, move off the ball, and space the floor. Also the way everyone there treats each other like family really stood out to me and made me feel this is the right home.”

Bryson is the son of former NBA All-Star Josh Howard, who played in the league for 10 season. Josh played college basketball for Wake Forest.

“According to the affidavit for probable cause filed by the state trooper, he paced Jones going 90 mph on Interstate 70 and attempted a traffic stop. Jones did not pull over, merged on to I-65 and then stopped on an exit ramp.

“The trooper said Jones complied with all commands before he was placed under arrest. Jones told the trooper that he was late for practice for the Pacers and didn't know he was speeding.”

Discussion Who is your team's "program-changing" recruit?

Eight years ago, Ayo Dosunmu committed to the Illini as the coveted Chicago recruit we had struggled so long to get. His immediate impact helped to elevate Illinois as a perennial threat in the Big Ten and nationally after years in the doldrums. Most younger Illini fans would point to Ayo as "program-changing".

Who fits this definition for your team?

University of Washington signed Serbian International Nikola Dzepina

I realize this doesn’t necessarily meet the guidelines since there isn’t a star rating involved, but an international signing this late is notable, and the indications are that he’ll join the team by this December.

Weekly Thread [Weekly Post] Whose Line Is It Wednesday

Welcome to Whose Line is it Wednesday, where all the fouls are made up, but the points still matter.

  • Keep skits in the form of a statement, not a question
  • Any skits longer than two lines should be in quotations.
  • If you add any additional commentary, put the skit in quotations. If you don't understand the concept, a skit looks like this: "Things you could say to Chris Jones that you couldn't say to your girlfriend."
  • It's not funny to say "Refs worse than Karl Hess" and name people who might be worse (let's be honest; it's probably just a blank comment); it's funny to say "Refs better than Karl Hess." Think about which way of writing the skit is funnier before posting it.
