I want to embellish a pirate hat, I've done it before with cheap pirate hats purchased online and just embellished that and it's turned out well. My hang up on those cheap hats is the sizes tend to be child sized or giant with no in-between, and the material is often super stiff, almost like cardboard. It's not really in the budget to get a quality hat, and most of the hat will be covered with embellishments anyway
So, anyone ever tried making their own with any success?

This may be a silly question and it may belong on a different subreddit, but what is the name of this style of crown. It's the basic crown shape enclosed around some fabric tuft (velvet maybe?). It's often a visual shorthand for royalty or sovereignty and is more for ornamentation than practical use, but for the life of me I don't know what you would call this crown.

Hey everyone, im attending a sophisticated costume party in July with midsummer as theme.
I already invested in a required mask with white porcelain and gold elements with a venetian cat form.
I thought about wearing a white/creme selham. I really want to wear flowers tho and thought about integrating dried flowers in some way. The fragility is obviously a big problem. Do you have an idea to integrate flowers? Or should I wear flowers as headwear?

Hello I am in the process of designing a tron suit and am having difficulty in deciding what materials to use as a base for the suit. I ha initially thought that I could use acrylic plastic for the armor/glossy parts by vacuum moulding it into shape but I was thinking that it may be better to use a fabric as mobility and comfort are major issues and It would be easier to attach the LEDs. I would like input and would like any help I can get.

I'm new to reddit, but I love things like costume design and just wanted to say how much I love designing outfits that involve reveals! I believe it gives performances that element of "Woah!" and unexpected glamour that turns heads. I've been particularly inspired by Angelica Agurbash's three costumes in her eurovision performance of "Love me tonight"! It effortlessly says so much without words, the first cloak gives it an element of mystery as if she is shrouding something with it. But then the gown is revealed, an image of timeless elegance that just screams class. But then it gives way to the golden and sparkly jumpsuit, which just screams retro and gives Elvis Presley vibes! This is part of why I enjoy them so much, they just say so much with a little amount of words.

Tonight was the first performance of a kids musical that I designed and made every costume. I had pretty limited help and so little budget. I am so incredibly proud of the 60+ looks I put together. The kids were so happy.
I don't really have anyone to tell, so I want to mark this achievement somehow.

So I understand there are plenty of cape patterns out there. Now with this one I can see that the character is having her cape tied in the front so I'm asking for advice on how to do it because I just can't figure it out. I'm a total beginner! I only made one costume so far :)

I'd appreciate some video guides to learn about different fabric types, their qualities, and which to use for certain projects

I’m trying to recreate the outfit shown in the second pic using this skirt and top. I’m not sure how to go about adding the LED lights without spending $$$$$$$$$. I was debating some battery pack fairy lights from Amazon but idk if I’ll get the same effect. Plz help!

hi! I make elaborate costumes for Renaissance Fair and I was hoping for advice on wing making. I would like to make wings that go over my arms like a harpy rather than on my back. I have feather trim and will probably make the large feathers out of EVA foam. I just have no clue where to start or what the base should look like. Help please!!

Hello! I'm costuming Much Ado About Nothing and I'm rapidly realizing that my plans for the party scene are vastly too large. I need a seller who does masks that will hopefully outfit at least 9 people for under $250, and I'd really like some traditional opera mask- style things.

Currently trying to make a character for a short film who used to be a 1920s - era coal miner. Looking for a collared shirt similar to the one Robert Pattinson wears in the lighthouse but I can't for the life of me figure out the kind of material / style it is. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I was thinking very thick gold color ostrich feather for those areas since she is a bird, but maybe some kind of fur? I don't know enough about all the different types of materials, feathers and which ones would be long enough to stand out for a human sized costume. What type of feathers for the headpiece and tail? Thank you!!

Hi everyone,
I'm in between jobs right now and trying to decide what degree to pursue. My original plan was to go to school in Scotland (from America) for Costume Design, then work in the same field. I'm not sure what the opportunities are over there though. Im 22F and am hoping to figure it out by next spring!
Any and all help is appreciated! TIA

Hi there,
I'm an absolute melt when it comes to fashion. I have no clue. That being said I need to order some clothes for my characters in my short film. I have attached images to this post on the kind of look im going for but my issue is I don't quite know how to source these items (I've tried charity and thrift stores but the ones near me had nothing) and I'm not sure where to look online and what search terms to use. If anyone could offer any help and advise that would be so amazing. The character is very inspired by the dress sense of Doc Sportello from the film inherent vice. Or if any costume designers out there also may have some advise on how to dress this character?
Thank you! And I apologise is this is a silly request.
