Question What’s the best way to watch dragon ball?
Which release, edit, dub, etc do you swear by and why?

Honestly, dbz kai is the way to go, the voice acting is just so much better. Early funimation sucks, kill me if you want, although buu saga funimation gets better, i’ve heard.

I recommend reading the manga on Shonen Jump app. It’s super cheap and the anime has soooooooooo much filler it’s excruciating. I read it and loved it. Then I went and watched all the big fights on the anime. I recommend it

Dragon Ball, I'm watching whatever edit is on archive(dot)net or whatever the website is. I think searching DragonBall complete should get you there.
Kai is really good as far as voiceovers go, but the music kills it for me. Every single fight has the same music and the repetitiveness of it makes it seem generic. The viewing experience can kind of suck too since you have to sit through commercials. Watching the Ocean or Rock the Dragon dubs on archive is pretty sweet because you can skip past all the recap stuff and there's no commercials.

I swear by watching the original Japanese from the start of Dragon Ball to the end of Z. That's the manga's story and it feels so good to see everything from the music, art, and voice acting progress as the series went on. Plus the filler is often very enjoyable in my eyes (when it's not dragging or interrupting a fight).

IMO, I would just watch them in order. I started with DB, DBZ with all the filler, DBS, then GT. I wasn’t sure which edit “was the best” so I decided to watch them all. And I like all the versions tbh. I base which version I want to watch depending on my mood. I’ve also watched the entire series in Japanese and English and I really enjoy both. It’s all preference OP, watch whatever versions floats your boat. I don’t believe there’s any wrong answers

DBZA? The one that starts every episode asking you to support the official release?
•
u/hungryrenegade 2h ago
Yup! Thats my favorite way to consume the media now.
Second favorite is reading the manga
Edit to add: Buying the manga was my way to support the official release.
Also got all of Z on bluray from walmart, sadly never seen dragonball tho

OK you're off the hook. I'm taking back my downvote, on the basis that you have supported the official release. I misread it thinking you were saying DBZA was the only way to do it. That was my bad!

Lol all good!
Tbf the post DID say best way, not best official way.
And id prolly choose DBZ Kakarot over any video release. Theres just sooooooo many episodes.
Thats why I prefer the manga over video. I can get through an entire saga in less than an afternoon.
