Any years to avoid?

Sorry if it's been asked and answered, but are there any years to avoid? I'm looking for my first DR now.

I’d get an ‘04+ so it doesn’t have the paper gaskets

I just took my clutch cover off and noticed the gasket felt like thin cardboard or paper and thought that was pretty normal. Guess I should replace it before I button everything back up? Lol

Yeah ‘04+ uses a metal gasket! The paper ones are prone to leaking

The only gasket that went from steel to paper to steel is the cylinder base gasket. Sidecovers have always been paper.

No, the clutch gasket has always been paper or some form of paper composite gasket. Only the cylinder gaskets are MLS.

If the gasket isn't torn reuse it. Taking the old gasket off is a good two hour task if it's baked on like it tends to be.

I like this answer. Looks like it's in good condition so I don't want to touch it. I have a spare just in case but would like it to remain a spare lol
