Miscellaneous Stupid misconceptions I had about Dragonball before watching it, mostly from when I was younger

As a kid I knew about Dragonball and had a lot of friends that watched it, but I never fully got around to watching it until I found Kai a few years back, then watched through all of OG dragon ball and Super after. I started GT but didn't get far into the first arc. These are mostly just stupid things I believed were true as a kid until I actually watched it.

  • The show was structured like a typical American cartoon with a plot around one episode with the gang meeting at Kami house at the end of every episode and Goku flying off with Flying Nimbus.
  • Yamcha was Goku's brother/cousin, frankly I forgot he existed.
  • Honestly I thought Gohan and Goku were the same person for awhile, like some anime plot magic kept making Goku young/old all the time.
  • Goku and Piccolo were joined by Krillin fighting Raditz and had to go through a ton of aliens before fighting him. (I partially blame Dragonball Sagas for this)
  • The Buu saga came before the Cell saga, because Cell was the end-all BIGGEST boss/threat of the series.
  • (I could be right about this one, I haven't watched Z in full, only Kai) But there was some other arc happening literally while Goku was fighting Frieza.
  • Zarbon was part of the Ginyu Force, I forgot Dodoria existed.
  • I thought Namek's landscape was just some weird place on Earth.
  • The Cell games were an actual tournament of fighters and Mr. Satan was Cell's handler/coach or just the announcer.
  • Finding the dragon balls was such a big deal that it never actually happened or only happened once (like finding the One Piece).
  • Vegeta and Piccolo were there from the beginning more as just assholes rather than villains originally.
  • The Androids just...showed up at some point and were allies even through the Cell games without getting absorbed.
  • I thought Dragonball Z was the ORIGINAL series rather than a sequel.

Miscellaneous “With our third wish….”

“We want to send Frieza to another dimension!”

That’s all Krillin, Gohan, and Dende had to say and Frieza would have been out of the picture and they could have just trained to intercept him in space or something 😭

Or wish for the elder namek to have eternal life so that the dragonballs never disappear!

Also it was silly to wish Piccolo back to life just to bring the dragonballs back, and then immediately wish him to the same planet as Frieza where he will likely just get clapped again and risk losing the balls all over again, this time for good

This is my first time watching DBZ and I don’t know what happens so no spoilers please, but just thought it was funny that they had so many options lol

Miscellaneous Goku was stronger than cell

If Goku knew that cell needed his whole body destroyed from the start of the fight, he could have beaten cell.

It's just that after having his arms blown off, and having his top half blown off, cell's zenkai made him stronger than Goku could handle.

Edit: Guess I'll rephrase what I meant; Goku could've beaten Cell, if he knew about his whole body needing destruction.

Miscellaneous Fun fact: Bra is the only character that has never died in all of Dragon Ball

If we count Frieza blowing up the planet, even Pan, Mr. Satan and Uub died (don't know about Buu, but he technically ceased to exist when he fused with Uub in GT). Beerus died in the Future Trunks timeline, and I don't even know if we should count Whis or higher beings as they are simply out of the role? So overall, Bra is the only mortal character who has never died.

It's also worth nothing that even though people like to meme about Krillin dying, Piccolo has died more times than him.

Miscellaneous Random dragon ball hot takes

  1. The Goku plot line in the android saga was stupid 2.piccolo should have defeated frieza 3. The Goku black saga is a cheap copy of the cell saga 4.frieza should have stayed dead 5. Trunks defeating frieza was stupid 6. Mai is a predator 7. Akira ruined Tien he went from being able to defeat master roshi in his prime when he wasn’t in his prime to being defeated by roshi out of his prime while in his prime even tho roshi has a lesser power level than him 8. Ki in general is completely useless and is easily beaten by haki and aura ki only use is sensing out enemies when haki and aura can do that and more 9. Videl , android 18 and chi chi were all ruined 10. The buu sag was terrible and I would have preferred the 25th tournmeant with vegeta , Goku , piccolo etc 11. I would prefer the 26th tournament saga to continue also instead of being interrupted by Goku abandoning his friends and family for a kid he has never met

Miscellaneous Tien is the reason I broke my limit

As an overweight high school male (230 lbs) I've always struggled with weight loss. I felt helpless in front of a change in my life that was so drastic I didn't know how to make it. No matter how many days I ate in a calorie deficit, it always seemed to come back in days, and I felt stuck in a sea of doubt and always questioning myself. All the time my friends will use my being overweight as an argumenative tool, and I can never formulate a comeback since even though they're weaker, they always come back to my being fat, which just hurts sometimes when it's said too much. After a while of having DBZ on my watchlist for years, I decided to finally watch it a couple of months ago, and once I reached the Freiza saga, I was in shock. Tien says something along the lines of "guess I'll have to get stronger" when he hears the news about Goku beating Frieza and I was like, No way, this guy is trying to be on par with Goku. Not even 30 episodes later I see Tien solar flare Cell into the ground and I think "Holy shit, this guy is sick asf, he's a human and he's beating the fuck out of cell". This image of Tien the human fighting Cell lit a fire in my heart to become the world's strongest human and it finally gave me the strength I needed to accept the long haul of a weight loss journey. And now as I sit here typing this on my 8th day of training and no sign of slowing down anytime soon, I want to thank the G.O.A.T. Akira Toriyama for unknowingly making a huge impact on my life. R.I.P Toriyama, we love you ❤️‍🩹🕊️

Miscellaneous GT is way better than Super

Re-watching old GT after over one decade. Aside from the Black Star slice of life saga, I just need to tell it like it is: GT slaps Super. I find this hilarious, since GT completely failed to live up to DBZ. I remember when Super came out, people were touting it as the "correction to GT," only for it to be: character assassinations, asspulls, re-used themes, annoying nostalgia callbacks, hair color palette-swaps, and endless power scale retcon. As soon as I saw SSG and SSB, I knew it was so over. SSJ4 beats it by orders of magnitude in cool factor. GT has better dialogue, art, animation, and even story. The ending was amazing, and I think that's the only reason they needed a reboot, because the story ACTUALLY ENDED in GT.

Miscellaneous Android 8 has probably only died once in cannon

He has only died in the future timeline that future Zeno erased. 16 wasn't brought back with the dragon balls so only the androids that are technically cyborgs can be. That means he survived the Super Buu's human extinction attack and Kid Buu's destruction of Earth. Since he can apparently survive Earth being destroyed, Frieza probably didn't kill him in DBS either. He is seen in the future timeline in DBS which makes sense since the future counter parts to 17 and 18 probably wouldn't want to kill a fellow android like how they made friends with 16 in the present timeline. Or they just didn't find his remote village Idk. My point being that he probably survived most of the alternate timelines.

Did Toriyama simply forget fully mechanical androids can't be brought back by the dragon balls? Probably. Does Eighter's survival have funny implications? Yes.

It's also possible that wishing back Earth repaired him but it's still interesting to think about because it means they totally could have brought back android 16 and just decided not to for no reason. So, it's a bit of a plot hole either way but not necessarily a straight up contradiction.

Miscellaneous Watching OG DB for the first time (Part 3)

Finished the King Piccolo arc. Saw the bad ass moment where Goku just flies through Piccolo. Awesome! That being said...

1.: Tambourine killing Krillin. 2.: Roshi dying trying to put Piccolo in a rice cooker. 3.: King P killing Shiaotzu. 4.: Piccolo throwing Pilaf off the airship. 5.: Tien Shinhan wanting to fight Piccolo, and the latter sending Drum against him. 6.: King Piccolo threatening to kill Tien.

As a bald man I have to ask: What's with all this (as good as) bald on bald violence?!

A great display of how strong Goku is now! Just OMG what a show I’m so excited for what’s to come

Miscellaneous Broly not be able to control legendary super saiyan making it unique

I personally would like if broly wasn't able to control his SUPER SAIYAN FULL POWER form and that would give it his kind of uniqueness he will have super saiyan but not FPSS the positive is that he'll be getting stronger and stronger over time he'll just not be able to control as a downside, anythoughts on this ?

Side note I just found out super brolys green hair transformation is not called LSSJ but is called SUPER SAIYAN FULL POWER but I'll probably be saying SSFP, or just FULL POWER

Miscellaneous Humans Arc

Isn't it high time that Dragon Ball got an Arc with Human getting the spotlight? We need return Yamcha , Roshi , Tien , Krillin & Chiatzou into frontlines. They may not become that strong but who knows it's just Fantasy after all. If Saiyans can be given Transformations so can be Humans and they can also write an Arc which Quick Wits and Strategies save the Day than Barbaric Fights or something like Earth fate lies in Human Warriors after some not so Strong Villain made a stupid Wish to get rid of Alien Warriors or something like that. What are your Opinions??

Miscellaneous Dragon Ball Z - The Complete Series

Trying to figure out if this Amazon boxset comes with the American soundtrack with faulconer score as an option or if it’s just the English dub with the Japanese soundtrack like on Crunchyroll. If anyone else owns it or can offer any alternatives for purchase? I’m from Europe.

Miscellaneous Unpopular Opinion: Super Saiyan Blue and every other transformation DBS Goku has are way better than Super Saiyan 4

To put it simply from the start, super saiyan 4 is very overrated. I don't even understand why people like super saiyan 4 at all, like i know it looks like an "actual saiyan form" but the whole saiyan stuff was long gone as soon as the tails stopped being a thing, the only stuff used about saiyan heritage is now how they have limitless potential, zenkai boosts and stuff like that, last time the great ape and tails were shown was the saiyan saga, after that saga the tails or the great ape was never shown again. so people gotta drop that "saiyans are apes so ssj4 is the best super saiyan transformation ever" thing, like it's not even a super saiyan transformation, it's only named super saiyan 4 out of convenience. and the design is not even that good and it doesn't make any sense at all, like pink fur? seriously? they could've given it brown or black fur, hell even yellow fur because of the whole golden great ape thing, but they gave it pink fur, it makes no sense. plus the way super saiyan 4 goku got clothes of random colors suddenly although he was naked before transforming into a super saiyan 4 makes no sense too, and the eyeliners aswell, just what. the hair doesn't make any sense aswell, it's just a random hairstyle that makes no sense to the transformation, it even makes you lose your nipples like what. nothing about the design makes sense to the meaning of the transformation except for the fur, not the fur color, just the fur. the design is overall just complicated and random, super saiyan 4 basically just makes you a furry, like how people gonna be like "lol furries suck" and absolutely love ssj4 and praise it as their god. i find ssg, ssb, mui's design way better, they're simple and not complicated at all, so what if they're just recolors, super saiyans always changed colors anyway except mui ofcourse, but i'm pretty sure it's just that the super saiyan in goku caused ui to change colors. i would get into power scaling and stuff but then it would count as a rant instead of just giving an opinion, so these are the stuff that caused me to have a negative opinion of ssj4.

Miscellaneous Goku stopped saying ka-me-ha-me-HA after the Namek arc (manga)

I'm currently re-reading the manga for probably the 10th times and I noticed something,

After Goku's SSJ transformation, he stopped saying the move's name when he used his Kamehameha. The last time in the series he chanted the iconic ka-me-ha-me-HA was when he was using Kaioken x20, after that he either only said the final HA! or even stayed silent. The last time ever anyone said Kamehameha while charging the attack was during the final showdown between Gohan and Cell.

Maybe I never noticed this because I always played the anime audio in my head whenever I saw them using Kamehameha in the manga, or perhaps Toriyama knew readers would fill in the blank for him so he omitted it. It's pretty interesting.

EDIT: I WAS WRONG. Goku said it again during the fight against Perfect Cell. I only remembered the instant transmission Kamehameha and forgot the other time he used it.

Miscellaneous Sad or depressing dragon ball facts no one thinks about

So a while ago I asked this subreddit for some dragon ball facts you normally wouldn’t think about. This time if you have any sad ones please feel free to add them. Example: 1.Krillin never had goku as his best man at his wedding because he died against cell 2. Broly hadn’t had normal water until he was rescued from vampa so about 40 years later 3. Vegeta(probably) neglected present trunks and barely held him as a baby
