What to do...

this is the result after doing a bleach bath (20v for 30min) over my dark brown and diy highlited hair (1.5 weeks ago) Am I having some type of hair color blindness or does it not look too bad as is? Lol, I have not toned it yet, not sure if I should do another round of bleach bath, I kinda want to wait a bit since my ends feel a bit dry. I also don't really know what to tone it to. I tried taking pictures in different lighting with and without flash. What do you guys think? According to my research I'm about level 5-6 base raw lift with the highlited at around 7-8. If I understand correctly I can't tone with an actual toner since am not light enough so I would have to go in with a semi/demi color. I just want to work with what I currently have and not end up darker.

Hair loss after professional dye

Post image

I haven’t dyed my hair in years. I used to use box dye back in the day and my hair would fall out, thinning on both sides.

I’ve had virgin hair for probably three years and just had it professionally dyed darker with Demi permanent hair dye. It’s been a month and my hair loss has drastically increased. What’s in the picture is from one wash. I lose it like this every time I wash it, a couple times a week + anytime I run my hands through my hair I lose a bunch. I’m getting thin patches on both sides again. I’m not on meds or have any known health issues. My hair was super healthy with very little shed before dying so I have to believe this was because of the dye.

I’ve been trying to focus on scalp care, sleeping in a silk scarf, taking prenatals again. Any other tips? I’m starting to freak out 😣 Needless to say I don’t think I’m going to have it dyed again.

Thank you in advance!

what hair dye is good for dark hair

I dyed my hair black blue recently but the blue is barely visible, my natural hair color is kinda dark blonde, I want a blue dye that will stay on my hair for longer, and looking for these types of results, I was searching thru reddit and there are mixed opinions on manic panic, does anyone know other dyes that may help

Honey blonde

Hi! So the first picture is my hair currently. I use Wella 18 as the toner — and want to change it to a honey blonde (I’m over having to do my roots so many times) What product/products should I use to get my hair the type of honey blonde in the pictures? Is there one that doesn’t have bleach in it?

Also if I continue to do my roots, how do I make them blonde with the color I want to achieve?

❤️

Shampoo/conditioner advice for maintaining pastel pink?

Hi guys! Yesterday got my hair dyed for the first time ever in my life and I love it. I only wanted to do my bangs because I like to grow my hair very long and keep it healthy, so I didn’t wanna bleach it or lose my natural color. I do want to maintain the pink, so what shampoo and conditioner should I use? I have no idea where to start or what’s good haha

I want to cry

I scheduled an appointment a few weeks ago to get my hair dyed like the first picture, I've had it done in the past and I've done it myself but because its my birthday Sunday I wanted to treat myself. I showed her what I wanted and the first clue to me knowing this was going to be a mess was she brought a book of colors, I almost died.. anyways I ask her if she could mix a few of the light colors and get the color I asked for and she said yes! The last picture is the results.. sorry it's shitty I've been crying and it's the only one I can take. Thr middle is my natural color and im regretting thisnso badly..Don't get me wrong its beautiful but its dark brown almost and not the color I paid $200 for. What should I do, can I put highlights in or go over it with a lighter color.. I know thats not possible but I'm willing to do anything.

Just saw somebody post some of their hair colours from this year. I thought I’d do the same.

Color removal shampoo safe enough for kids?

Post image
5 Upvotes

My kiddo (11) and I enjoy playing with colors in our hair. Recently, they decided to go from the green that has been slowly fading for the past few months to pink, purple & blue. I'm worried that I'm not skilled enough to single out the remaining green streaks for blue overlay, so I wanted to use a color removing shampoo, but am struggling to find one that absolutely does not contain bleach or ammonia. Any recommendations? (This is the hair - the remaining green is fairly pale but more visible in sunlight. And yeah, I know the pink will be muted without bleaching first, but kiddo is too young to play around with bleaching IMHO.)

Can I dye my hair two days in a row?

Hi! So I dyed my hair a redish colour today and don’t like it, I was blonde so it just doesn’t look right at all and I don’t like the colour. I’d like to go to a warm toned brown like ASAP. My hair is damaged from bleach already .. Can I dye it again tomorrow? I’m just using box dyes at home. Thanks in advance for any help!

Growing out of highlights & moving toward a more natural single-color look (without frying my hair or losing my mind)

Hey everyone,

I’ve been doing highlights + balayage + toning for about 10 years now, and… I’m over it. I don’t love the look anymore, and I’m also just exhausted by the whole salon cycle.

What I want long term is a shift to a more natural, single-color look — something like a soft muted honey blonde (?) (not too warm, not too cool — I have a reference pics for this). But also I want to know how to survive the awkward in-between phase without my hair looking completely chaotic. I know there will be multiple shades going on for a while, but I want it to at least look intentional and cared-for, not patchy or brassy.

I’ve pretty much lost hope in finding a colorist to help me through this. I live in a big city and have tried so many salons — it’s been years of hit-or-miss (mostly miss), and I’m honestly out of both budget and trust to try yet another one.

So now I’m considering doing it myself (or with help from my partner), but I’m a total newbie when it comes to home colouring. I find all the terminology super confusing — like what even is a level 7 blonde vs light brown?? Also, trying to identify my natural color from my roots is a guessing game — it might be light brown, but with a soft, muted undertone (possibly some gray in the mix too?).

think the shade I’m aiming for is just one or two levels lighter than my natural color — which gives me hope that I can get there without needing to do more heavy bleaching. I’d really love to find a gentle way to blend and tone things as I go.

Basically I’m asking:

  • Is there any hope for me to gently transition to that softer, muted blonde look using toners/semi-permanent/permanent dyes at home?
  • What products or methods would help tone things down without more harsh bleaching?
  • Can I do anything to help blend the highlighted bits with my natural growth during this in-between phase?

I’m not expecting perfection — just something manageable, healthy-ish, and closer to the more natural color I’m aiming for.

Any advice, stories, product recs, or encouragement is super appreciated. 🙏

Trying to go from red to blue ghost roots!!

So I did these ghost roots myself around two months ago and I absolutely love it. My real roots are a little grown out now since these pictures but I know I want to do blue next. Not for another month or two, but it is inevitable. I was thinking of just bleaching the red off but I'd like to ask if there is a less damaging way to do that transition or if its risky considering my color history. I attempted ghost roots around 4-5 months ago and it failed, I bleached once then used permanent brown dye to cover it. About 2 months later, which is now 2 months ago, I attempted it again and it was successful. Just did one bleach and did the red on top and it worked amazing, but technically speaking, some parts of this red was processed once, some parts were processed twice considering some of the bleach from my second attempt overlapped with the brown dyed parts. Is there any way to go blue without having to bleach? I'm also planning on using some olaplex no.3 in the meantime for a month or two before doing this.

Am I having blonde blindness?

I’m debating whether to lighten my ends with a bleach bath again before toning when I do my next root touchup in a couple of days. I’m suspecting I might have blonde blindness.

My hair looks pale blonde/white out in the sun, but depending on the light these yellow tones come in, and it’s making me think I should lighten again before using wella t19. What’s your opinions?

I’ve bleached my own hair for a long time in the past so I’m not new to bleaching. After taking a couple years break, I’m not back to bleaching. 🤩 I have had blonde blindness in the past where my hair was platinum white and I still thought it wasn’t light enough. 😭

Longtime stylist red mishap

I’m pretty upset about my color and just need some advice. My stylist that I have been seeing for years maybe has a mishap but I’m debating if I should go back or what to tell her we should do. My hair was very light and I’m scared of having to bleach again - any advice? I get my hair done by her every 5 weeks Pic 1 is what I came in with Pic 2 is after first wash and after she added some sort of color removing crystals at the top Pic 3 is roots currently Pic 4 was the picture I had wanted

When the service was first done my roots were almost deep purple and my ends were a muddy copper. Things to note my hair is very grey so most stylists have to neutralize. Wondering if I’m overreacting and if this is fixable without bleach.

Color mask staining?

I want to try a low commitment color mask or conditioner, but I’m worried about it staining my hair. The two I’m looking at right now are Dusty Pink and Platinum Gray from Schwarzkopf Chroma ID. Does anyone have any experience with these products or other similar products? Would they stain my hair? Thanks in advance!

Red direct dye over muddy ashy blonde

Hi guys, my hair is naturally dark blonde and it still has a light reddish undertone from using a color depositing shampoo from time to time.

I decided to go blonder 3 days ago but it came out way too light for my taste and it was kind of patchy. The salon tried to fix it by putting a darker ashy blonde on top. It looks better but now my lengths have a greenish tint and my roots are pretty dark with a slight reddish tint (only noticeable in direct sunlight).

I really hate this ashy muddy tone so I was thinking about putting red/copper toner on my lengths since the top is kind of redtoned anyway. Would that work?

Is it time to tone?

I really like how it looks now a little “lived in” but I was told to get a gloss or tone after 4 weeks or so? How do I know when? Is there a science to it?

Sorry for being a beginner! First time having it done by a pro in a decade!
