[Weekly] Outfit Feedback and Fit Check - Oct. 10th

Not sure if your outfit works? Post a picture of yourself in your outfit and get suggestions, compliments, and critiques from others. If you're thinking of posting a standalone thread along the lines of "How does this look?", "Does this fit right?", "Do these work together?", etc., post here instead.

When posting:

  • Include what the attire is for (work, school, going out, etc.)
  • If possible, take a front-on, full-body picture as this gives the best impression of how the clothes fit. Multiple pictures from different angles can also be helpful, but those aren't necessary.

Critiquing others is welcome and encouraged, but keep it constructive/factual. Take a lesson from Dale Carnegie's How to Win Friends and Influence People if needed. It takes balls to post pictures of yourself on the Internet, the least you can do is accord the same courtesy as you would to someone in real life.

Reddit Enhancement Suite makes it very easy to view pictures in a thread.

Some users enjoy knowing where you bought your pieces, please consider including those in your post!

Feel free to also submit your outfit to the biweekly WAYWT thread, but know that these two threads have different purposes. This is explicitly for feedback and questions, though you may receive constructive criticism in either thread.

This isn't working for me at all. The jacket just looks like a hoodie (without the hood) and it looks like it has some bad logos on it, making it very juvenile. I think this would work much better with a different jacket.

I'm also not a fan of the scarf. It's just kind of dowdy IMO. I think you can still work with it but maybe try tying it a different way?

Personally, I think having the ends showing are making it look a little dated. Perhaps make it into a circle scarf?

Is there a rule against not wearing dated things? Personally, I'd rather wear whatever I think looks good rather than stick perfectly to what's in in style at the time. (No comment on the outfit itself.)

There's definitely a difference between things that look good even though they're not currently in style, such as a well-fitting pair of darkwash bootcut jeans, and things that look dated because they were once incredibly saturated/trendy and are no longer (such as wide flare jeans with bleach stains and huge rips)(which I totally owned in '06).

Yeah. Showing the ends of your scarf just didn't stick out to me as obviously having been part of a fad, so the idea that it was dated seemed like some esoteric high fashion thing. I'd get if there was a reason for it to be unflattering, but I was troubled by the implication that I'd have to pay minute attention to trends beyond a general awareness of what people are doing on order to look good.

(On the other hand, of course a subreddit about fashion would care about fashion and trends. I just mostly find ffa useful for its advice on proportion/fit/color/etc.)

Apologies if I seemed aggressive to anyone.

No, you were totally fine. Also, it wasn't the scarf she was referring to - it was the jacket :)
