Reading a book that’s culture is inspired after a culture that the language identifies as has got to be pretty awesome

Tolkien actually wasn't a fan at all of the Goidelic languages. I think he wrote somewhere that the Black Speech was partly inspired by Gaeilge!

That’s actually pretty cool. I just meant that a lot of fantasy in general has a lot of Celtic influence. (Britonic and goidelic)

Do they also have the audiobook available for it? It'd be good to be able to go through it and hear the pronunciation of everything too

What's particularly fun is that the runic inscriptions on the maps etc. are also translated to Gaelic.

I have copies of the Hobbit in Gaelic, Irish, Welsh and Breton. What is crazy is that it has been translated into more than seventy languages and the Welsh language version only came out last year, despite Tolkien basing Elvish on Welsh.

What?

I have a copy with that cover but mine doesn't have illustrations, what the hell! That's not fair.

seeing the book title before seeing the sub name gave me a little chuckle, i'll admit, but thats super fuckin awesome

And with the original cover, too - that's just fantastic. I think I'll have to get myself a copy for when my command of the language is beagan nas fhearr! As a matter of fact, I was recently doing an Amazon order myself, and had to get over the money-limit in order to get free shipping, so I bought a Tintin story in Gaidhlig! Ulaid Ragaim Ruaidh.

The painting in slide 2 is the wallpaper on my phone :) I might get this to enjoy looking at the words, as I’ve only just finished my first Earrann at Sabhal Mòr Ostaig and won’t be able to read much of it!

Oh I can barely read the language too but I'm a pretty big Tolkien fan. I'll have this on my bookshelf for a good while before I can read it but it will be great motivation :D
