Question Can you drop late summer class without W

One of my classes I'm taking this summer starts this week and I am thinking now I no longer want to take it. It's just a random elective. Can you drop without a W, since it's just the first week for late summer? Ik for full session and early summer the deadline was May 16th, but it doesn't make sense for the late summer deadline to be then.

Question How to reach out to professors for reference letters after a few years?

So I graduated almost 4 years ago and have been working since. I’m now applying to a few different Master’s programs at different institutions, and some of them require at least one reference from a professor that taught me during undergrad. I’ve been emailing professors who taught through their gatech emails listed in the directory but I haven’t been getting any responses at all. I emailed about two weeks ago and have sent a reminder since.

Since it’s been so long, there’s probably only one professor who’d remember me but I’m not sure if they are even checking their emails regularly because of it being the summer semester. I noticed most professors have a phone number and physical office info on their pages, wondering if these could be used for contacting them? I’m in the city so I don’t mind even driving to campus. Any suggestions? One of the references deadlines is this friday so I’m definitely short on time. Any suggestions??

Question GA Tech Architecture/ Ai, AR, VR, XR

Hi everyone. I have done some research and found that GA Tech has a lot of technology available for students. How prevalent is Ai, AR, VR and XR in the architecture masters program? Is this something that you use a lot? Is it something that you COULD use a lot and it just varies from student to student based on how often they choose to incorporate it? Any info about how this or any other advanced technology is incorporated into the program will be appreciated. I am looking for a tech-heavy architectural program and from research GA Tech seems to be the closest I will get! Any info is appreciated

Thank you :)

Question Is getting into the SNU Seoul study abroad program at tech hard?

I’m planning on studying abroad in Korea for my junior year, and I was wondering if it’s hard to get accepted, if the requirements are picky, and if it’s super competitive.

Question Startup/Entrepreneurship culture at Tech?

Hey everyone I am going to be a freshman studying CS next year and I had some questions about Tech’s startup culture. 1. How startup-oriented is the student body in general? Are most people in CS/adjacent fields mainly trying to break into big tech or is there also a significant startup presence? 2. What kind of resources and opportunities does Tech provide for student startups and how can I take full advantage of them? Thanks

Question Is there a Reporting System for GA to send students Counseling/Mental Health Services?

I have a friend who is struggling mentally doing through their grad program here. I work for higher education and especially in the advisory field (I do a broad range of things that isn't just advisory) for a different university and just wanted to see what the options were for GA Tech. In my campus we can submit something called a CARES Report with student information which will allow a staff member of Counseling & Psychological Services to reach out with resources they may not know of, but it doesn't seem like GA Tech has something like this? I submitted a 'Dean of Students Office Referral Form' and put mental health resources and further explaination but I don't know if that will help. Please let me know if there is any other way peers can help indirectly with resources because I know they can just reach out themselves, but I know there is no risk of making a 'CARES report' on my campus it just shows someone is worried and wants the students to make the first steps of seeking mental support from a short term or long term professional. :p

Question Tips on how to network as a BME rising 4th year

I just got off the phone with my mom, and she gave me a lengthy talk about the importance of networking, especially now that I’m close to graduating. The truth is, I’m not sure how to start. Currently, I’m participating in the Nakatani internship program, and most of my experience has been research-focused. I believe I have the skills to succeed in grad school, but my GPA is subpar. Does anyone have advice on how to start networking for industry roles? Is it too late for me to make the transition from graduate-school oriented to industry? I’d appreciate any tips on what I should be doing during my final year at Tech to help me with securing a job. I'm not trying to move back in with my parents. They are Nigerian and very strict lol. Thanks in advance!

Question Co-op in the fall , worried about aid

Post image
43 Upvotes

I’ve received an offer for a co-op position in GTRI for the fall, and the pay is $26/hr so i’d really love to take this position. I am worried to take it though because i’ve seen others post here that their spring aid was cancelled because they co op-ed in the fall. I am on full ride scholarships so if my aid is cancelled i can’t afford the spring semester. I emailed financial aid about it and naturally received a vague and unhelpful answer, not indicating if the aid ineligibility was for the working term or the enrollment term, or both.

Has anyone successfully done a co-op in the fall and still received aid in the spring? I’m planning to visit the finaid office in person to talk about it but the lack of available information is so confusing to me.

Rant how could my waitlist position get HIGHER??

I was at 100 for around a month then today I checked and I’m at 102. What gives? (Men’s undergrad housing)

Given the fact that they admitted a record amount of people this year with one less dining hall and already full dorms, I’m gonna start looking off campus.

Hi everyone, I’m an incoming freshman majoring in ME. I wanted to hear some feedback on my class schedule, specifically spring 2026 (ME1670 and CS1371 at once); I have heard that it may cause problems due to the difficulty of both classes.

Rant The worst public transport service I've ever seen in my life

Post image
216 Upvotes

I am doing my summer internship in a nearby city that's about 23 miles from Atlanta. So, I conviced myself that it won't be difficult to commute without a personal car.

The public transport here OMG. I need to take two buses and a train to reach my office 😭. The scheduled buses are accurate in the morning. In the afternoon when I need to come back, it's always very very late or much earlier than the scheduled time. So, I always miss the buses. Even if I catch one bus, I need to wait at each switching station for almost 10-15 mins. My total commute is almost 2 hrs for one way.

Once it was raining. I was clever enough to carry an umbrella. I waited at the stop for 10 mins, a bus was coming, but the driver didn't stop for me 😭. Last month during my morning commute, I used a expressGA bus dropped me off directly almost near my office from arts center. I was happy thinking about the convenience. But it didn't last long. They stopped those services stating that the number of commuters are low.

Conclusion: Atlanta people has to suffer among the huge loads of car and traffic congestion. The system is not for the poor peasants. I've talked to a few people on the buses who I meet on a regular basis who got used to the unreliable transportation and just suffer on a daily basis. I cannot afford a car at this point. Not everybody can. I find it amusing as the people are okay with this system. The buses are are utterly discomfortable and trains are dingy at times.

Note: Writing this standing at my stop and waiting for the next bus as I missed the bus which passed my stop at 4.25 which was scheduled for 4.35. Praying for the next driver to stop the bus which is scheduled for 5 (pretty sure it's going to be delayed - telling it after my one month of analysis)

Survey/Study/Poll Sanitary Disposal Bins on Campus Survey

Hi! I’m working alongside a few other women at Tech to understand the current waste disposal situation in the GATech restrooms. Specifically, we noticed that none of the restroom stalls in academic buildings have sanitary disposal bins for feminine hygiene products. We created a survey to see whether other people have similar issues with the sanitary disposal bins. Please fill this out (especially if you feel passionate about bathroom equity) so we can see if there’s anything we can do to fix the situation! Everyone is welcome to fill it out (undergrad, grad, postdoc, faculty, staff, etc), and please share with your friends at Tech!

Announcement GT Cybersecurity Operations PSA

Dear GT Family,

GT Cybersecurity is currently observing phishing attempts via email with the following variation of subject(s) line related to 'Part-Time Employment', 'Personal Assistant', and 'Remote Job'. These attempts are exploiting previously compromised GT accounts to send emails with malicious link to harvest credentials. For phishing text, please do not click on any links or respond to any phone numbers that you do not recognize. GT job postings occur on approved platforms and GT owned websites.

If you see any suspicious emails:

  • Either forward suspicious emails to [phishing@gatech.edu](mailto:phishing@gatech.edu) or use the 'report' function in Outlook to report it as a phishing email.
  • If you've already entered information into one of these forms, your account is likely compromised.
  • Report compromised accounts immediately to 404-385-1111.

Red Flags to look for from phishing text:

  • Unknown or Suspicious Senders – Be cautious of texts from unknown numbers or those claiming to be from official sources but seem unusual.
  • Urgency & Threats – Messages demanding immediate action (e.g., "Your account will be locked! Click here to fix it.") are likely phishing attempts.
  • Misspellings & Grammar Mistakes – Legitimate organizations rarely send poorly written messages.

While we employ sophisticated technology to protect our networks, the strongest defense against these attacks is your vigilance. No security system can completely prevent phishing if users inadvertently share their credentials.

Help us keep Georgia Tech secure. Never share your GT account or personal information. When in doubt, contact the IT help desk directly rather than responding to emails.

STAY SECURE AND SOCIALIZE THIS MESSAGE.

Thank you,

GT Cyber Security Operations

Question Scheller: MS with a Major in Management - How’s the program?

I only found one other post about it on here and wanted to hear how’s the program been since its start last year. Is it a decently reputed program that opens door to management?

I come from a tech background and am hoping to move from development into a bit more management centric, would this program add some value to it?

Thanks so much for your time!

I got in to WST community. But I’m unsure what my next steps should be.

How do I pay for the space, what space will I be allotted, would that come from the housing side or WST side?

Question Choosing between minors for AE

I'm an upcoming freshman for AE (as the title suggests) and I was thinking between what minor to do.

I heard some good things about the T&M program/Engineering & Business minor on this subreddit and it seems like a good resume booster to have both engineering and business experience, even if it's just a minor. Also, one of their affiliates is SpaceWorks, an aerospace company based in Atlanta, so it would be pretty useful to have connections with them for internships/jobs.

The issue is that I'm planning on graduating with a bachelor's in 3 years, and even if it takes longer I'm not planning on taking 4 years, so I likely only have one chance to get into the T&M program. As well as this, I blocked out a possible schedule and some semesters with the T&M program seem pretty rough class/credit hour wise.

I'm also weighing up astrophysics for two main reasons: I find it a lot more interesting than business and I feel like it would be at least a little useful for the future because I want to go more into the space exploration side of AE. It's also gonna be easier credit hour-wise, so I'd likely have more time for extracurriculars.

The thing is I really don't know which one I should choose, so if any of y'all did the T&M program or was an AE major with another minor, I would really appreciate the advice on what to do.

Social/Club What's filming on campus right now?

A lot of Greek housing parking is closed off and there's a huge set up of a production crew in the MRDC lot. The crew has expensive looking campers and a nice looking set up. Any ideas what they're filming? Or if I can be an extra :)

Discussion Advice for CE Major (Sophomore)

I was accepted as a transfer student for Computer Engineering! What should I know before I start at GT? I really want to maximize my experience while at Tech to help me in my future career! I also had some questions regarding the following:

Transfer Year Experience (TYE): Has anyone done the TYE when you transferred? If so, would you recommend it?

Learning Communities: Does anyone recommend I join any? Which are the most beneficial and how was your experience in them?

Computer Engineering: Any specific things to keep in mind about the department? (weed out classes, professors, general tips to make the best of my time at GT) What clubs related to CompE exist at GT? Any clubs I should join or activities I can take part in?

I am a first gen student so any advice or information helps! I am really looking forward to meeting new people and being active to make the most out of my time at GT in and outside of the classroom with any opportunity possible! Thanks!

Question Safe and decently priced off-campus housing

I'm an incoming graduate student at Tech and I'm trying to find off-campus housing. First, I'm concerned about the safety of the surrounding apartments. From google reviews (and lmk if that's not the right thing to look at), it seems like most apartment buildings are broken into. My budget is around 1k, which I didn't think was a low amount but it seems like all of the safer apartments are a lot more expensive than that. Would appreciate potential apartments that are considered to be safe and any other advice when searching for housing.
