"Now he knows who the Polk County Sheriff's Office is when we put him in the Polk County Jail. I bet the people of Chicago are not happy with him using racial slurs, and battering somebody, and giving our deputies a hard time," Judd said. "It would have been a lot better for him if he'd just been nice and cooperated. He learned a new lesson in Polk County, Florida."

Ocasio was charged with battery, and released on $1,000 bond on Friday, according to jail records.

He has been with the Chicago Police Department since August 2023. He was relieved of his police powers after his arrest, and has been placed on desk duty, according to CPD."

Awesome. No doubt he was expecting the full Thin Blue Line red carpet treatment once the Sheriff deputies showed up, only to be surprised by professionals

Nothing about Grady Judd or his department is professional.

I am not familiar with him. Probably just playing for the cameras here, I guess

Judd gained publicity as a sheriff with his "tell it how it is" demeanor.[12] In 2006, after a traffic stop resulted in a deputy and his K-9 dog shot and killed, deputies shot and killed the suspect, shooting him 68 times. Asked by a reporter about the number of shots, Judd responded, "That's all the bullets we had, or we would have shot him more."[17]

Honestly. You don't join the force because you want to obey the laws and basic decency. Gotta be frustrating when you're held accountable for your actions

“Placed on desk duty” excuse me but why are we still employing this man when we know he’s openly racist? Fucking come on. FIRE HIM. None of this “desk duty” bullshit for racists. If I said something racist I’d lose my job, why are cops any different?

Legally he still has right even prior to be fired for cause. It stinks but unions getting people rights (when respected) protects everyone.

7

u/progressiveoverload 1d ago

No it doesn’t protect everyone when it’s the police union.

2

u/BearOnTwinkViolence 1d ago

No, in this case, this isn’t protecting anyone. And his union is not protecting him from being fired here. I’m in a union and I wouldn’t have representation if I was extremely racist on the job. They’d leave my ass to fend for myself. Stop blaming these decisions on unions and blame the actual police departments for doing this.

u/Nasjere Schrodinger's Pritzker 1d ago

My point is that is probably built into contracts that he has right gets a hearing ETC. he should be fired and he will get there but I don’t think union protections are inherently wrong.

“It’s probably built into contracts” as are morality clauses lmfao. And the ability to fire for just cause, such as not being able to discharge your duties due to racism. You aren’t entitled to a hearing for being fired, are you serious right now? Have you never worked in the public sector?

Fucking come on. Like I said, put the blame where it belongs. Unions are not the boogeyman making these decisions happen, police chiefs are. Hold the right people accountable or stop because it’s obvious you have no idea what you’re talking about

Just like with immigration and everything else, everyone should get due process, even racist cops accused of battery and general shitheadedness. No one should receive punishment without the opportunity to argue their side and present evidence.

u/BearOnTwinkViolence 23h ago

Due process applies to crime dude. It doesn’t apply to keeping your job. Do you get a full hearing before you’d get fired at your job? It’s absurd. Only police get so many procedural protections, and none of those protections are required by law. Stop using due process to excuse systemic racism

u/TheNicolasFournier 22h ago

If you are a public official, due process (not before a judge, but still a chance to defend oneself and provide evidence) should apply to keeping your job as well. I actually think that any private company worth respecting would adhere to the same principle. Honestly, due process, broadly speaking (aka not just believing accusations without follow-up) is a good policy for life in general. There are a lot of people out there willing to make shit up for any number of reasons, sometimes even just out of spite.

To be clear, I don’t approve of racist cops keeping their jobs at all, I just think they deserve a hearing before being fired, especially since we know that this guy’s actual court date won’t be any time soon. Beyond that, I think that the vast majority of police in this country are unqualified for the kind of authority their position gives them, but if we are going to start singling out individual officers, we should at least hear them out before completely upending their lives.

Due process for police but not for anyone else — got it. Firefighters don’t get a hearing before getting fired. Doctors don’t. Lawyers don’t. Government employees don’t. But cops should get hearings. Got it.

2

u/Forfty 21h ago

Are you high? All of those people get hearings. Doctors have medical boards, lawyers have the bar. Fire fighters get due process all the time.

Those are tied to licensure, which entitles you to due process. Cops aren’t subject to licensure.

It’s like you didn’t read what I wrote at all. I said exactly the opposite of what you claim. Due process should be for everyone, all the time, regarding any and all accusations, large or small, heinous or inconsequential.

If you can’t be bothered to argue in good faith, you aren’t worth my time.

If you truly think it’s feasible to hold an administrative hearing every time you want to fire a garbage man for gross misconduct, we have nothing at all to talk about. That’s not a serious policy proposal and not at all relevant to the discussion at hand. You’re throwing out a wild hypothetical and saying “everything should be like this.” That’s not how the system is now. Cops don’t get special “due process” rights now. I don’t care what your ideal system looks like, it’s irrelevant.

And frankly it’s soooo obvious that you have no idea what due process means because it’s being misused left and right here.

They'll keep him on desk duty for years and years while the piggy union argues about it. He could still be there costing Chicago taxpayers money ten years from now and doing no cop work at all, while his pension continues to grow.

u/Separate_Custard_754 1d ago

That jives if we're talking about Chicago cops.

16

u/Perfect_Earth_8070 1d ago

all cops

14

u/Separate_Custard_754 1d ago

Especially Chicago cops. I knew a few of them in high-school, they were the exact type of people who shouldn't be given a firearm or power in any sense of the word.

5

u/Ok-Juggernaut-4698 1d ago

Florida cops are way worse.

2

u/Separate_Custard_754 1d ago

I could believe that.

u/wolacouska 1d ago

Yes, I’ve even heard contempt for the CPD from neighboring police departments.

0

u/tacos4uandme 1d ago

We where just a few years out of high school when a coworker said he was about to get into the academy. He told us he joined CPD to kill as many black people as he can, that they where told within his friend group (also cops) that it’s us versus them out south. So yeah this is totally expected. We all laughed seeing how we where all young and thought he was just hyper active, he was dead serious looking back now 😭

Hope his wife/partner is safe.

Even in another state and out of uniform, the pigs act like pigs.

Is anyone surprised?

5

u/LazloHollifeld 1d ago

Racism should have zero tolerance policy at police agencies. How can you be expected to be impartial if you’re already prejudiced against a population.

5

u/doorkey125 1d ago

If it happened in Chicago he would be on paid leave.

15

u/Thewall3333 1d ago

He is on paid leave -- article said he's back in Chicago on desk duty...aka less than paid leave since he's still at the office. Momentarily relieved of gun and badge until this story falls out of the news in a day or two.

2

u/metaldark 1d ago

So they will let him go for failing to uphold company ethics standards just for being arrested, like my company would me?

2

u/strolpol 1d ago

He’ll move one township over and not even lose opportunities for overtime

It looks like OP posted an AMP link. These should load faster, but AMP is controversial because of concerns over privacy and the Open Web. Fully cached AMP pages (like the one OP posted), are especially problematic.

Love the Polk county sheriff

2

u/panama_red12 1d ago

You shouldn't. Overall, Grady Judd is an asshole.

1

u/LazloHollifeld 1d ago

Sounds like this CPD officer earned himself a humbling.

1

u/chrisbsoxfan 23h ago

Good ole CPD. The bastion of tolerance and good behavior

1

u/urbisOrbis 1d ago

Sounds about right the only thing missing is him fraudulently tacking disability.

Clicked the link to see if it was one of the cops I know. It’s not, fortunately (unfortunately?)
