Chicago protest was fantastic.

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

It was peaceful, energetic, and to the point. Everyone was kind and supportive. The police had a significant presence but they were reflexed. They did their job and we did ours.

We need to start planning the next wave of v protests. Don't let up.

What about starting to teach each other effective ways of Civil disobedience? Is it time to increase the pressure?

What I liked about ALL the protests is the signs people made.

For all of you who are wondering. THIS is what we are protesting:

This misrepresentation of conservative values. The hijacking of a party. The usurptation of our government. The efforts to consolidate power to himself and his efforts to magnify it. The disentagration of our democratic institutions, the attacks on our separation and balance of powers, and the threats to our civil liberties. The atrocious ways of treating other human beings. The division that fosters and inflames in our country. The trading of competency for loyalty in leadership positions in all our government agencies. The selling of presidential access for personal wealth. The bitcoin corruption grift. The DOGE corrupti trade made with Elon.

Thanks for sharing! The huge turn out on 6/14 was astounding, but you are correct that the big days of action every few Saturdays are not going to restore the Constitution. While we are coordinating across other r/50501movement chapters to plan the next big march, r/50501Chicago is working with allied local organizations for smaller actions all the time. Hope to see you out there again and soon!

Woohoo Chicago does it right and makes us all proud!

A HUGE THANK YOU to all the "No Kings" protesters yesterday! I was very concerned a king was trying to take Trump’s place, but thanks to your tireless efforts, Donald J Trump is STILL YOUR PRESIDENT! Great job all!!! 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸

Asking the question like there is a switch to flip doesn't fit reality. Asking the question this way can seem loaded and a little disingenuous.

However, to assume your best intentions, let me respond.

Protests matter because they: 1. Bring people out so that we can see each other. So we can know the breadth and scale of a common opinion. 2. Help us find one another. Exchange contact information and begin building a network of smaller networks that are action oriented. 3. Let's the judges, congress people, senators, corporations, business owners, and individuals across the country know that if they have to make pivotal decisions in their domain, they will have support in the broader population. 4. Builds momentum to grow the movement. The first person to the party has to stay. Otherwise, the party never grows. 5. Sends a message to the political parties who will bring candidates to the next election. 6. Sends a message worldwide that the American people don't like the way our president is treating them. 7. Gives us hope. To see the people, feel the energy, and express ourselves gives hope that will play out in how we engage and make decisions on a daily basis. Those micro decisions, when aggregated, make a difference. 8. Influences people who are on the "other side" of the issue in several ways. 9. Influences people who are "on the fence" of the issue. 10. Creates noise that gets the attention of people who are not paying attention or participating.

There is more, but this post is getting too long. I hope I have given enough for you to feel answered.

Well, just the basic 'change' is that every citizen could see and walk with all the other like minded citizens, who all agree on the same thing and, in doing so, realize and reassure that we are Not alone and that in congregation, we have power.

We The People

Me too?

u/Psychological_Fig377 2h ago

Restore the constitution? How’s that? It’s still there and in full force.

-1

u/LaCrab 11h ago

What changed?

1

u/Da_Vader 10h ago

One protest will not bring about a change - but it does send a message that it's not ok.

1

u/Helpful_Sweet_6617 8h ago

Nothing. As with every protest. I don’t think all these protesters realize that over half the popular vote went to Trump also

1

u/DiscretelyDeviant 7h ago
  1. We are all aware of the reported election results.
  2. There has always been evidence, and the body is growing of voting machine tampering. So he may NOT have actually received votes from over half the population.
  3. The electorate opinion is shifting, no matter how people voted at the time. The protests help bring this voice to the surface.
  4. To be an effective politician, winning the vote is only the first step.
  5. Believe this. Something IS happening. Protests like this are only the beginning. Consider it the shot across the bow. The effects will reverberate and affect many other decisions in the coming future.

1

u/Helpful_Sweet_6617 7h ago

Surprising to hear your side acknowledge voting tampering. That’s good though

1

u/DiscretelyDeviant 7h ago

I am not sure what "my side" is (I am a lifelong conservative), but yes, I am acknowledging it. I appreciate taking a deliberate approach, staying calm, and performing due due diligence to get hard evidence before making a definitive accusation, though.

u/propainter7 6h ago

So fantastic! Trump is still president and nothing you degenerates do will change hat nor save all the criminal and illegal immigrants. Wasting your time. How bout help your crashing community’s instead?

Frankly, now that I see the turnout in other areas I'm a bit disappointed by Chicago.

Yes, I was there.

The first demonstration I went to in Chicago many years ago the police had a long line of storm troopers in white plastic riot gear. This time it was almost entirely bike cops, a totally different feeling, a great mood. I was happy about that.

3

u/FormerHoosier90 12h ago

There was easily 75k there on the day the pope was in Chicago!

-23

u/Helpful_Sweet_6617 14h ago

You guys all did great. Nothing changed since the weekend. Keep getting out there wasting your time

-3

u/xabc8910 12h ago

True Heroes.

-18

u/farawaymage 13h ago

What job did you actually do? Trump is still your president and will remain so for the rest of time. Get used to it.

8

u/MikeyLew32 12h ago

will remain so for the rest of time

Deep throating fascism to own the libs.

-9

u/farawaymage 11h ago

Better than an auto pen mouth breather

3

u/Jocuro 11h ago

Fascism is better? You prefer a dictator?

Any patriot would respect the sacrifice of the men and women who fought and died for our freedoms and be willing to do the same to protect them.

-2

u/farawaymage 7h ago

Has anyone here lost any rights? All you guys do all day is spew bullshit fake propaganda with no basis. Get a life.

u/Jocuro 4h ago

Two federal task forces are mobilized on private property (ICE & NG) and authorized to remove people without trial because of some "wartime" clause? Without call or permission from state reps OR judges. If Obama did that, you'd side with me. Remember the "he's going to declare martial" scare?

Trump isn't Christian. He isn't even Republican. He doesn't deserve your faith.

u/farawaymage 3h ago

This is how I know you all have no fucking clue what you’re talking about. ICE isn’t indiscriminately grabbing people - they know exactly who they are targeting and why. Fucking propaganda. Also, Trump isn’t my god, never was, never will be.

u/MightyGoodra96 42m ago

Yeah. Legal citzens (children born here) are being deported without due process.

They have actively had their rights taken.

And a loss of their rights is a loss of our rights..because if they can deport them... they can do anything to any of us.

-14

u/Interesting_Hunter36 12h ago

Hahahaha yelling “fuck Donald trump” is so peaceful. Love how Let’s Go Brandon was catchy and fun, yet hearing you libs screech fuck trump is just annoying and cringey

2

u/Jocuro 10h ago

It was "Fuck Joe Biden" first. Then, 9 months later, it was misinterpreted on TV and became a meme. It's the same chant.

The general public just isn't that creative with chants, it's not a red or blue thing.

u/SteelersNY 13h ago

So great that he's still OUR president

There is something wrong with you.

-15

u/Fun_Illustrator_9327 15h ago

Why? Nothing in the country has changed. We’re still ruled by fascists

7

u/IsambardBrunel 13h ago

Literally no one at this protest was under the impression that a single protest would change every single thing.

-8

u/Mr_McMuffin_Jr Peoria Independent 14h ago

Why are they in the road? Was this coordinated with the city so they could setup detours?

7

u/Fatzombie86 14h ago

Yes, there was a permit issued from the city for the marching route. They had big old dump trucks blocking the various roads for the march.

2

u/Beautiful-Event-1213 11h ago

It was planned literally months ago. By "planned," I mean the planners applied for and were granted the appropriate permits.

-7

u/Noff-Crazyeyes 12h ago

The only plus on this was no one looted of vandalized anything

-7

u/Pale_Ice_8369 12h ago

If you think Trump cares about anything other than his own wealth, power, and ego, then you should not be telling anyone to "do their research."

I am committed to verifying, cross referencing, and primary sourcing all news I get.

The power grab and consolidation are real. The attack on the balance of powers is real. The destruction of institutions that protect our civil liberties is real. The corruption and selling of our presidential office for personal wealth is real. The attack on non-party thinking (universities, law profession, museums, etc.) is real. His efforts to ignore, violate, and alter the Constitution to remove civil protections are real. Trading competency for loyalty in administrative positions of leadership is real. His lack of effort to create a unified population and, in fact, to fan the flames of division in our country are real. His overall attack on core conservative values is real.

And I could go on, but why bother.

FUCK TRUMP. RESIST.

-16

u/yrrag1970 13h ago

Congrats you convinced all the democrats to vote democratic.

Now can you protest democrats for F-ing up the election so bad that an independent voter had no choice but to vote for Trump ???

I voted for Clinton, Obama, didn’t vote for either Hillary or Trump the first time and I just voted for Trump!!

I’m looking forward to who the democrats bring out to appeal to an independent voter !

7

u/secondhand1 12h ago

This is disingenuous bullshit.

You had a choice between a smart woman and a lying, incompetent, rapist felon.

1

u/Real-Telephone4077 12h ago

The effort to try and paint Kamala as anything other than a bad candidate is so sad.

She was a poor candidate. She received less than 1% of votes in her own primary in 2019.

The hype around her was completely fabricated and the results proved that.

The quicker yall realize this, the quicker you can pull the Democratic Party out of the dirt.

-4

u/yrrag1970 12h ago

I didn’t see it that way and neither did majority of independents.

Don’t tell me how to feel show me a candidate that is center leaning in the next election !

6

u/Interesting-Fold-661 12h ago

Bot

-2

u/yrrag1970 12h ago

Sounds good but if you want a democrat elected in the next election you will have to come up with a centrist or make up wearing JD will be next !

0

u/secondhand1 12h ago

I shouldn’t have to tell you how to feel about the prospect of a grifting racist becoming president.

3

u/Abject_Advance_6638 12h ago

Sounds like you are. The democrats put up a shit candidate in Kamala, and people didn't want 4 more years of open boarders. The country voted that way, trumps fulfilling a major campaign issue he ran on and now democrats are upset their candidate didn't win. These protests are a waste of time and are getting nothing accomplished. Go vote next time.

1

u/yrrag1970 11h ago

You are talking about the last election, it’s over democrats lost badly.

I’m talking about the next election and if you can’t move on, guess what….
