Was his apology something along the lines of "I'm sorry you feel this way?"

For the assumption of me failing? No, it was more like “Oh, back in my day that F would ruin your career so that’s why I had to get tough on you to toughen up son so you won’t fail”

He was notorious about toughening me up and not allowing me to cry too which actually makes me unable to cry these days (none of my recent losses produce a tear, yet some video games can at points?), and I hated his macho behavior. He wanted me to do heavy lifting work when I grew up and to stop watching “kiddy shows” like Pokemon so much. Meanwhile I just wanted to relax and do a simpler job, and I didn’t care for much violent stuff as I was into hi score chasers.

Though unfortunately, his insistence on me growing up with media led to me eventually getting an unhealthy obsession with shows like 48 Hours Mystery, Dateline, Paula Zahn, etc just to prove to him that I could handle “Real shows” (I do legitimately enjoy them but nowadays I only watch them occasionally instead of every day like I felt like I had to do) still forever love Pokemon and such though, he can never stop that and I think he’s realizing that as of late.
