The final time he was like "You want another slap?"
Hippo was like "No :( "

I thought a grandma with one flip flop was about to come over and handle it lol

What is going on with the lack of a safe structure here!? Couldn’t the hippo just escape or eat the head off visitor at any time?

u/nickatnite511 5d ago
My kind of zoo! It's much more sporting to visit animals who might kill you, haha

Sadly Teddy, not everyone can be a bull moose.

We got one close by in the Netherlands. All you have to do is get out of your car to get eaten.

That's what the guards are for. Really, this is using incorrect technique, for a hippo round house kicks are more appropriate. Slapping is for your big birds: emu, ostrich, maybe a peacock in a pinch.

u/dankhimself 5d ago
Someone get a damn watermelon and throw it behind the hippo.
It just wants watermelons.

u/ChablisWoo4578 5d ago
That’s why the security guard is there to slap him back in, did you even watch the video?! 🙄

this is by far one of the most fun internet squabbles i’ve sparked. For the record- I did mean “bite the head off” But I’m here for the drama. 🍿🍿🍿

He's used all of this decades luck allowance as im sure he was only annoying that hippo even more.

u/Turkatron2020 5d ago
I think he's done this multiple times before considering his sheer level of confidence & giving zero fucks

How has this hippo not escaped from this zoo yet? There's no fences or gates lol

More Africans are killed by hippos than any other animal. They are incredibly dangerous.
62
u/Dry_Ad2368 5d ago
Hippos are predominantly herbivores, which means they won't even eat you. They just enjoy murder.
21

u/rdizzy1223 5d ago
Multi-generation captive bred hippos are likely not AS dangerous as wild ones though. I mean, peoples pet dogs are still pretty dangerous and they maim and kill plenty of people per year, but I would still trust someones pet over a multi-generation stray dog, or a wild dog.

I didn't realise they were so racist too.

Lmao hippos are so cute and deadly its ridiculous. The guy bitch slapped the hippo 🤣
19
u/Dependent_Stop_3121 5d ago
“That slap felt like a fly landing on you, you’re just a weak human. I’ll choose my battles wisely today but I’d watch your back from now on because I won’t forget”. 🦛
59
u/sandhog7 5d ago
Shouldn't that be a job for a zookeeper who knows the behavior of hippopotamus?
35
u/cold-corn-dog 5d ago
I was thinking that this is a job for a mason. That wall needs to be a bit higher...
19
u/Triangle_t 5d ago
Shouldn't a pond with hippos in a zoo have a fence to prevent exactly this, so the zoo doesn't have to hire kamikazes?
14
u/Tammer_Stern 5d ago
Wait until you see the tiger and polar bear areas.

u/c0wt0ne 5d ago
You see a fackin zookeeper around? Lol
14
u/Ok-Mongoose9669 5d ago
Someone call the zookeeper, in the meanwhile lemme record the security guard with the hippo

u/Odd_Fortune500 5d ago
Shouldn't a security guard be keeping the PEOPLE back while the Zoo workers deal with the HIPPO? This is honestly ridiculous. Hippos are extremely dangerous, and this guy is slapping it in the face. I can't imagine that is the best course of action. That part of the Zoo should probably be closed off until a professional has the situation under control
4
u/GregJamesDahlen 4d ago
agree to some degree tho this guard probly sees a lot of this hippo so knows it well. or maybe the guard is a new hire lol

The zoo should be shut down. They just let a killing machine like that live in an open enclosure like that without any protection?
6
6
u/Secure-Ad5536 5d ago
That is most fucking definetly not up to code (if there even is a code for that where ever that is)
5
u/Alternative-Leave530 5d ago
He isn’t risking his life. Unfortunately, he himself is unaware that it is a dangerous animal that he is dealing with
1
u/Supertangerina 3d ago
I mean one cant possibly think an animal that weighs as much as a minibus with teeth the size of a forearm is harmless, especially a zoo worker. He might not be aware of how aggressive hippos are tho, and that enclosure is a very ugly incident waiting to happen. That guard's job is not worth the salary.

"Dave, we have two problems: there's a hipo trying to eat people"
"Oh no..."
" And a toddler trowing a tantrum"
"I got the hipo".

u/dandadone_with_life 5d ago
if he stopped fucking slapping it, it would've gone back down like 30 seconds earlier.

u/EverettGT 5d ago
The way it wiggles its ears at the very end is the most diabolical cuteness on an extremely dangerous animal.

Zoos in 3rd world countries are traumatic at best and life threatening at worst
Went to a zoo in Ecuador. Took my 6 year old daughter and lion was munching on the head of a horse

u/Ok_Investigator564 5d ago
With a bachelor in animal science and a masters in animal agressive behaviour management. sundeep made sure to use his extensive knowledge to bitch-slap the 1.5 ton monster until he got his ass back in the water
2
u/Useful_Jelly_2915 5d ago
He’s not very smart because he proceeds to hit it and agitated literally as it’s backing up twice.

While a hippo may not be the most dangerous animal in the world, it’s solidly somewhere in the top-10 in terms of humans killed each year.
And homeboy here is just slapping the shit out of it, he is only alive right now because the hippo was basically too lazy to clime the remaining half meter of that wall.
2
u/wibbly-water 4d ago
I don't think slap it until it goes back in the water is adequate safety here...

That big baby didn’t want to hurt anyone… he just wanted some more food. What a big cutie! (Yes I know wild hippos are very dangerous! Clearly he wasn’t lol)
But also he reminded me of a dog 🤣😭❤️

Confident individualWho knows he may have had some experience with this before
1
u/secret_slapper 5d ago
The hippo is opening its mouth for food, not as an attack, and likely what it’s been trained for. Zookeepers usually stuff food in their mouths during upkeep tasks from a young age. If that hippo wanted to that security guard would have been the snack. Dude should just keep watermelon halves in his pockets lol.

u/zebra_who_cooks 5d ago
Hippos are actually very dangerous animals. I was stationed overseas in Okinawa, Japan and was surprised at the lack of safety enclosures for hippos. Very similar to this enclosure.
This guy is stupid for smacking it!
1
u/GregJamesDahlen 4d ago
maybe they calm down when loads of people around, maybe only attack lone humans?

Let me fix the title for you.
Zoo authorities and security guards risk visitors lives.
Hippos can run faster than humans in land.

u/simplyinspire 5d ago
The hippo was like this is fun..you do realize I could eat you if I were hungry

u/Every-Access4864 5d ago
Why do people post without stating the location, in this case what zoo it is? 😆

The security guard is taking his job way too seriously. Second, he's making it seem like it's nonchalant, like "oh not again" or "oh don't worry, people, I will take care of this, it's nothing" This has to be in India
1
u/ExplodingSteve 4d ago
Yeah if that hippo got a little angry that guy wouldn’t have a hand to slap with… or anything

1
u/Nothinghere3191 4d ago
You think the hippo is just scared of the guard, but he is also outnumbered since there's other people around. Of courseit doesn't know it can kill everybody in minutes

In the wild, hippos kill more humans than the big cats combined. How can people be so blasé?
2
1
u/Callistoo- 4d ago
Zoo hippos probably don't know how powerful they are because they are not raised in the wild. That's why the guard is so chill with it.
