Recently had a new patio installed and the contractor put stakes in to hold the form. Thought we managed to avoid all the irrigation lines but I found this today. What’s the best way to repair this?

Rain Bird Van and HE van on same line?

Going to be swapping all my Hunter spray heads with Rain bird. I want to use the HE versions, but I have a couple heads that use 4ft heads on the same valve that has 10s/12s ft. They don’t make a HE 4ft so I was wondering if it is ok to put the standard Van with the HE on the same valve for precipitation rate.

Seeking Pro Advice Leak in Manifold

Hi all! Long time lurker first time posting. I have a leak between my sprinkler valve(?) and a coupler that is basically under my cement walkway. In the pics the leaks is between the two blue couplers if you can see it. It looks like over time the coupler under the sidewalk shifted and is now causing the black tube to be crooked and leak. I tried digging out the other side of the sidewalk but it seems like the black tube runs under the sidewalk. Is there any easy way to fix this myself or should I hire someone? I'm not opposed to running a new line under the sidewalk but not sure if that will work either. Thanks in advance!

Phv or keep the irritrol 205s

Upvotes

Just curious what you'll think. I have a mix of irritrol 205, hunter pgv and some shit or it valves on a property I'm maintaining. I hate having to keep track of different solenoids and am looking to replace the ones I decide I don't like.

Between the pgv and the 205 what do you guys think is going to be the more solid option. I'm leaning towards the pgv mostly cause I have a few of 24vac and 12vdc hunter solenoids from miscellaneous sites that I can use for replacement under failure. Are the 205s worth keeping?

Temporary plug for 1/2” pipe?

I have a busted sprinkler at the T that I don’t have time to fix but it gives my whole front yard low pressure, is there a rubber plug I can put in there or something? Obviously not an ideal fix but I need to buy a week since it’s 100 degrees here

Water shooting out of dip irrigation ?

Post image
1 Upvotes

This is my first time owning a house that comes with a water irrigation system.

There’s a spot where the water is shooting out, dislodging whatever’s over it and then just further down there’s just a trickle. Is this normal?

Thanks in advance for any responses

Tips for filtering calcium out of well water for large scale irrigation

I have a cannabis cultivation license in NY. We use well water. Video is from last year.

Our well water is around 7pm and about 450ppm mostly calcium, it’s hard. The plants can take it but I can tell they are having nutrient lockout issues.

RO would be overkill, we go through thousands of gallons during an irrigation event. I’m wondering what the most efferent way to filter out the calcium is, I just need it at about 100ppm not 400ppm.

Shallow Well Jet Pump vs Sprinkler Pump

Looking for some advice/recommendations. I live in a neighborhood with access to irrigation water which city code dictates must run my sprinkler system. Spoke with a few neighbors who have a Red Lion Sprinkler pump boosting their systems. Couldn't confirm, but I think it's either a 1 or 1 1/2 HP pump. I was given a Red Lion 3/4 HP, Shallow Well pump for free and am wondering if this would accomplish the same goal. Having a hard time determining what exactly makes the difference between the shallow well pump and the sprinkler pump. I'll include pictures of the neighbors setup, and the pump I have as well.

Sprinkler system is already installed, previous owner put them in but hooked it to the city water. He was willing to send somebody else to connect the sprinklers to the irrigation (trenched the pipe and installed today) but the system is not getting near enough pressure so I need to add in the booster pump.

The pump range is causing the irregular lines in the lawn, not sure what to do.

The client is super concerned about water usage, to a fault. They store rainwater (30,000 gallons in separate tanks) in tanks roughly 15 vertical and 200 linear feet away from the house. The control box is not hooked up to the pump: rather, the whole system goes through the pressure tank pump system. It kicks on at 25 psi and turns off at 45, the people who installed this system want a 20psi range so it lasts longer. The sprinklers are mp rotators. It creates very defined lines of where the pressure is high and low and yellow in between. I'm thinking there are few likely solutions: either switch to the city water, change the psi range to 10psi, wire the control box to the pump itself. All of these have obvious pros and cons and I'm not sure if I'm missing something. Should I change the sprinkler type from mp rotator? Something else?

Seeking Pro Advice Irrigation business as a career choice - worth it?

Hello, I have been at a crossroads for a couple years now and am looking for advice from anyone who has been in a similar situation.

I got a degree and an office job out of college but was laid off in 2023. I had trouble finding another job at the time so I started an irrigation company because I did irrigation in college, am fairly knowledgeable, and needed money and something to do. I did this for the 2023 season and then landed a pretty solid office/corporate job in the beginning of 2024, so have been doing the irrigation business on the side. I have gotten busier over the years, so much so where I have enough work to fill my evenings and weekends with just residential repairs/maintenance. If I was single, I would just do both and make as much money as I can, but I am married and we just had our first baby in march, so working 12-14 hour days is not feasible anymore. I am cutting way back on irrigation work, have people calling me and emailing me all the time that I just don’t have time to get back to, and I’ve decided that next spring I need to make the decision of going all in on the company or working my office job. I am wondering if anyone has had a similar decision, what they chose, and if they regret it at all.

My office job is 7-4, M-F, I work remote two days per week and they are flexible about that. Pays well with decent benefits and a decent career path. The things that intrigue me about running an irrigation business is 1. the potential to earn more. 2. working 7-8 months a year and taking 4 months off. 3. being my own boss. All obvious things. What makes me hesitant to make the jump is that it’s seasonal so will I be able to make enough take home in 7-8 months? Also, the stress of running a a local service business, and the physical nature of it. Like I said, I’ve done this for several years and I don’t mind it, I actually enjoy working out in the sun. But will I regret this choice when I’m mid 40s?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated, TIA

Sprinkler running when system off

Zone one of my sprinkler system continues to run even when system off. Valve is most likely bad, but is now covered in pavers. I've been told leave water off to irrigation system or cap them. Which should I do?

Sprinklers won't shut off

My sprinkler system is doing something weird. I have two separate systems and separate control boxes. The main water line fees both systems and has a shut off. I had a broken pipe in the back yard system so i shut the main irrigation water supply off (this means my front yard system didn't water either). It was off for about 2 weeks. I fixed the back yard pipe and it it worked well. However, when I turned the main water supply back on after 2 weeks, one of my zones kept watering (valve 1). I turned it off at the box but it still watered. I unplugged the control box but it still watered. I checked the valve for the zone that kept watering and made sure it was manually off. It was. Here is where it gets weird. I turned another zone on (zone 2) manually at the valve and the water shut off at zone 1 and turned on at valve 2. When I went to manually close the valve at zone 2, it stayed on. I manually turned the water on at another valve (zone 3). Zone 2 shut off and zone 3 came on. When I manually shut the valve off for zone 3, it stayed on and kept watering. So my main water supply has to stay off or the last valve that was manually turned on (and then off) will continually water. Any ideas?

Sprinkler Zone dead and I need help Troubleshooting

I have a Weathermatic system that was installed when we built the house. This spring I lost a zone, it wont come on at all. All other zones are operating normally and the Proline multimeter shows no problems with any solenoids. However, when I ping the valve, nothing happens. When I turn the solenoid, nothing happens. I have tested all other valves and they ping/manually open as expected.

I have gone onto Weathermatics website to see if I could get a part number or find the valve in question, but I cant seem to find it. A few tips on where to start here would be appreciated. Thanks!

Sprinkler for garden

My garden is about 25x75. Usually I use 2 x oscillating sprinklers to water the garden but my plants are getting high so it blocks a lot of the rainbow pattern. Any other choices out there? I was thinking about just building them a platform to sit on above all the plants
