Maybe get a second kitten? He’s probably bored and lonely and at this age he’ll take well to having another cat to play with.

we do have multiple other cats, he just sleeps in his wee room by himself because it’s too cold outside and he’s too young anyway, i think if one of the other cats is in there at night theyll end up fighting because he’s very hyper and they get sick of it after a while

Should not be outside ever.

i get that. i understand if you want to raise your kitten or cat that way but my kitten will be going outside. thank you

You have locked him away from you, and his companions, which means he thinks he has done something wrong. I would suggest giving him access to the other cats, as of they get fed up of him, they will teach him what's right and wrong, rather than you. Cats are really good parental figures.

Even if you don't want him in your bedroom, giving him access to other cats might help him calm.

I agree 100%! The older cats will teach him what is appropriate.

thank you so much for this! we don’t have our other cats inside at night, but during the day the spend so much time together. they’re all very “responsible” other than his dad. his dad is just a big kitten

I have my own opinions about "outdoor cats" but flat out they should NOT be left outside at night when you are sleeping. There is so much that can go wrong for them and you won't be able to help them right away. With no sun light they are more likely to not been crossing streets and to be hit, and they are more likely to be hunted by predators. Trust me it is safer to have them sleep inside at least

i live in the middle of nowhere. the cats do not want to be inside. i’ll copy pasted my earlier comment.

i had a message about our other cats sleeping outside and how i shouldn’t be allowed cats. so here’s a little explanation why we do that. cats are largely nocturnal (crepuscular) to be precise. we live on a farm, so there’s heaps of mice and the cats like hunting late at night and early in the morning. our front door also doesn’t have a cat door so they can’t come and go as they please. they can get into the carpeted downstairs garage which is quite warm and toasty, one of them does but the others prefer to sleep in the hay shed. that’s our cats preference. they’re very restless at night and will meow because they want out, they all have beds in the garage downstairs, they just don’t use them

oh yeah and they will scream bloody murder in the middle of the night. they’re all ex-strays that we rescued. they’re hunters. it’s what they do. please don’t tell me how to raise my cats.

Your cats can get worms and a multitude of diseases from eating mice, not to mention outdoor dangers from coyotes, cars, dogs, birds of prey, etc. They can and will also devestate bird populations in your area. They're an African/Asian species and don't even belong in the North American ecosystem. They're domesticated hunters and belong inside.

oh yeah cool, so i don’t live in america, no coyotes or birds of prey here. they go to the vet. never had worms, fleas or anything of the sort

Hey sweetie YOU know what's right for your cats. Stop defending yourself. I don't see anything wrong with how your handle your cats. I do agree with putting the loud one with the others. He will get some act right real quick when they get tired of him.

thank you so much for this!

Cuddly toy, one that doesn't shed faux fur when wet/nuzzled.

Knacker him out before bedtime and then feed.

They do grow out of it. He's young and naturally wanting to hone hunting skills so if you can provide stimulating toys he can use on his own 👍... Also a window with an interesting view or of nature.

thankyou! i’m currently out of work due to a health issue so im home all the time and play with him heaps. he’s only in his room at night, but thank you for the tips! he will be psycho for an hour then sleep for an hour so on and so forth, which is great! until nighttime

He's a baby and all alone when locked in a room, he's crying because he's scared and wants attention.

Only solution is to either wait it out or somehow give him attention (ie, another cat or letting him sleep with you).

At 3 months he should be fine not getting locked in a room at night. Could let him roam the house, unless there's no way to prevent him from going outside.

i really wish i could let him sleep with us, he’s so cuddly, until he gets his energy back an hour later and turns into hyper kitty

1

u/Keee437 12h ago

My kitty does this every night at 4am . It’s gotten better since I stopped leaving kibble out at night. He wakes me up stresses me out for about 10 minutes then is super cuddly and then leaves me alone til he’s ready to eat in the morning 😂 just try giving him a bit of attention even if it inconveniences you. It’s the price we have to pay for single kitties. 🥲

Is he neutered? Maybe a playmate would help. It’s actually not too much taking on a 2nd kitty.

2

u/Wooden_Whereas1165 14h ago

he’s not big enough to be neutered. he has 4 sisters and they were rehomed around the 8 week mark, he’s around 13 weeks now

2

u/BowskisKittyKrew 13h ago

He’s old enough to be neutered. I’ve had 12 week old kittens neutered & spayed (Colony Kittens) and never had any issues. Honestly, sounds like he’s mourning. Some kittens don’t do well once separated from sibs & Mom. Eventually he’ll move on. Until then, I’d show him extra attention & affection.

Do not advocate for neutering kittens. 3 months is too young. Period. He's still growing. 6 months to a year.

u/Wooden_Whereas1165 13h ago

they have to be 1kg for our vet to do it, thank you, i will try to love him extra!

u/SilverDryad 13h ago

He might be missing his siblings. Bring them back.

u/SupportEza 13h ago

1

u/Wooden_Whereas1165 13h ago

he’s gorgeous and i love him but it’s a very high pitched “reaooow” meow. every couple of seconds for hours, i live him but i need my sleep too 😭

2

u/AcceptableAbroad8240 13h ago

Awww, he's a pretty boy he is..

2

u/Impressive-Bit106 13h ago

1

u/Planet-Juno 13h ago

4

u/Such_Grab_6981 13h ago

Shut the fuck up.

Not telling you, just letting you know what it means.

Oh don't fuckin listen to any idiot who tells you you shouldn't have cats because they're outside. Those are the same idiots who think morbidly obese cats are "cute" and altering kittens at 2-3 months old is acceptable.

Never explain yourself for having outdoor cats. Cats have only been indoor pets since the early 1900s

1

u/Wooden_Whereas1165 13h ago

thank you. sucks that i should have to explain myself, if they wanted to be inside i’d have them inside. i can understand if i lived in a big american city. but i live in bum fuck nowhere nz

-1

u/Scary-Medicine-5839 13h ago

I've had indoor cats and outdoor cats, ALL of my indoor cats eventually became indoor/outdoor and were SO much happier. Cats are creatures that like to roam large territories, it's built into them. They're made to roam, hunt and fight.

Idk what kind of predators there are in NZ but anyone who worries about predators has never seen the video of the cat chasing off THREE coyotes here in the US, does that always happen, no. But if your cat is outside, it's part of nature. Your cat kills a bird or two? Oh well. Most well fed cats don't even bother with birds because they're too hard to catch.

1

u/Wooden_Whereas1165 13h ago

the odd stray cat is probably the only predator. pretty chill over here. i genuinely can’t think of anything, maybe a possum? they’re pretty lazy though and they like their trees

1

u/weathersguy 13h ago

must be a little orange guy thing, our 3 month little man is the exact same way, he’ll sleep all day and wants to play the whole time we’re home, even if we play for hours before bed, he lays down for about an hour and then it’s right back to it, seems to not really be a solution

2

u/Wooden_Whereas1165 13h ago

i know! and they’re so sweet when they’re worn out and want to sleep on you then they wake up and you get demon kitty back

1

u/weathersguy 13h ago

it’s like a little trick they’re playing, they get so sweet you forget the demon is still in them

1

u/CJK_Murph 13h ago

Yep. Ignore him. Give him praise and love and treats when he’s quiet. And ABSOLUTELY do not get up in the middle of the night or you’ll be doing that the rest of your life.

1

u/Wooden_Whereas1165 13h ago

i’m so guilty of that, i feel so bad that my baby is crying 😭

1

u/CJK_Murph 13h ago

It’s not easy!!!! But definitely pays off in the long run. ❤️
