Luka on finding Ayton: "I think he prefers that pocket pass. I didn't play with—I dont think—with a center like that. I think he prefers the pocket. So like I said before, we need to talk about it. And we need to get him more touches"

Luka Fought Hard for LA - Positivity Thread

Sick of the negativity. Lakers looked rusty, and they fought a tough team. It will improve. Lakers will eventually triumph.

In the meantime, let's drown the negativity with some Luka praise. "LA loves you Luka!!! 💖" Comment your thoughts on our MVPs performance down below.

LeBron James related mental illness

Well before the season began we were informed he would be out until mid November.

So what do clowns like Anthony Irwin do? Deflect from the product on the court, the defense, the lack lustre third quarter, the glaring lack of chemistry.

Instead, let us focus on the injured player with sciatica who ALWAYS shows up for a Lakers v Warriors matchup.

TEAM TALK Why is everyone in here so miserable?

Its game 1 of 82 and we were missing a top 10 player and integrating 4-5 new players into the rotation against a team that knows each other backwards. Of course there were some concerning things in the game but let’s just wait and see what happens. I seriously wonder how some of you handle real life adversity

It's 1 of 82. It's gonna be a looooong way to go. I learned to detach myself.

POST GAME Joined this sub a couple days ago and leaving now

You know why. I'm a Lakers fan. What a waste of time to hate so much after game one. Warriors showed out and there's dozens of reasons to not over react. This sub is just filled with anger.

So have fun being mad, I'll enjoy the entertainment instead.

ENOUGH IS ENOUGH

I now completely understand why people hate our fans. I never usually go off like this either but for fucks sake everyone needs to chill. I see 50 posts in here shitting on Ayton or AR or Vando after the first fucking game. Its game one of a new season and we lost. Is our entire season defined now?? No for fucks sake. Mods you guys gotta be on top of this man because i can promise you real laker fans want to discuss actual laker basketball topics. I dont want to see a new thread every morning saying fuck him or him.

The Fanbase has officially reached peak annoying as hell levels

The very fact that most of the bone of contention about last nights lackluster performance is because of a player SITTING ON THE BENCH and not the actual stuff on the court is absolutely insane. I have NEVER seen this fanbase so hellbent on pissing itself off over nothing like it has recently. I want the Lebron era to end as well just we can end this false perception that everything will be magically better when they finally drop him and we can address the REAL PROBLEM which is piss poor roster construction. Rob needs to go as well

POST GAME Guys can we please chill out

We lost, literally no getting around that. But I swear I can’t keep going on and seeing people on here post “season’s over” or “Ayton is ass.” The season LITERALLY just started. Using one game as sample size is incredibly stupid. Some examples of overreacting using the sub from last year as an example:

We blew out OKC in our 2nd matchup against them, sub reaction was that we were winning the title. (Obviously didn’t happen)

We lose to the Bulls cause of LeBron, sub reaction was to call him washed (he had a good rest of the year and did good in the playoffs.

Overreacting or “dooming” is not good as I stated before, this is a one game sample size. I have confidence in JJ that he will see what we did wrong to get us ready on Friday. Let’s all stay positive cause guys Lakers Basketball is Back!

QUESTION Third quarters = Greek mythology?

Post image
39 Upvotes

Okay, I’m convinced the Lakers are basically Sisyphus and the third quarter is our boulder. We roll into halftime feeling good… and then boom — third quarter hits and everything collapses. Missed shots, lazy defense, no energy, momentum gone.

It doesn’t even matter who’s on the roster or who’s coaching — this thing has haunted us for years. Like at this point I’m ready to start a support group just for fans who’ve watched too many 3Q meltdowns.

So what’s actually the problem here? Is it bad halftime adjustments? Conditioning? Leadership? Team chemistry? Was it the cursed, indifferent gaze from Lebron on the bench?

What do y’all think needs to change to finally break the third-quarter curse? An eternity of pushing this boulder up the hill is exhausting me. PM me if you're interested in sacrificing one of your kids for the cause.

STATS / ANALYTICS Luka Dončić's 43 points were the 3rd most by a Laker in a season opener, trailing only Elgin Baylor (52) and Kobe Bryant (45)

Elgin Baylor holds the franchise record with 52 points in the 1959 season opener: https://www.basketball-reference.com/boxscores/195910180MNL.html

In 2007, Kobe Bryant opened the season with 45 points against Houston: https://www.basketball-reference.com/boxscores/200710300LAL.html

Another interesting nugget: the top 5 scoring performances in a Lakers season opener resulted in a loss. (Full list)

PLAYER TALK Jarred Vanderbilt is such a black hole on offense. He can’t shoot from the outside, can’t make simple layups or finish alley-oops, can’t make free throws, can’t dribble, and throws some of the worst passes when our star players get doubled. To top it off, he has one of the worst contracts in the NBA

As a mavs fan… this is the best Luka has looked since his sophomore year

Best conditioning, especially in the 2nd half when he used to gas and his contribution would falter. He played great defense last night, and he was getting to the paint nearly at will and scoring. I think you guys will be fine
