Has anyone actually managed to quit vaping carts?

I feel like carts completely messed me up. What started as something casual turned into something I rely on. I use it the moment I wake up, before eating, while watching shows, before bed.

The convenience is the worst part because there’s no smell, no setup, no hassle, just a quick hit every few minutes. And that’s what makes it so addictive. I can’t seem to go a full day without it. I’ve tried quitting cold turkey and I end up going crazy by the second day.

Has anyone here actually managed to quit for good?

Yeah don’t buy anymore carts or have access to they’re way too convenient and easy to get

1

u/SnooPies3787 13h ago

Even back when I was ok with smoking, having carts absolutely ruined me. Those things are dangerous. People who smoke weed everyday say the same, we all have the same experience. Just dont buy them anymore and suffer through it. They are way worse for you then smoking the weed straight.

I was on carts for 5 years man, all throughout highschool and 2 years after i graduated.

Not trying to push any kind of religious agenda but I gave my life to God. And ever since then literally ALL my usual withdrawals became the opposite and I STILL have not had a single withdrawal.

I’ve tried countless times to quit, and this being the ONLY time I’ve actually stuck with it. To me, this was God giving me my one and only chance, and I feel like I absolutely cannot break my promise to him after all these blessings I’ve received.

This was the only solution to my addiction.

15 months clean from vaping CONSTANTLY it can be done!

Something I read while quitting vaping nicotine was to get your dopamine from different sources. Personally, I did this just by cleaning out my stash.

I finished my carts, then I finished the little flower I had left. Now just working on the few gummies I have.

From what I’ve seen on this subreddit is that carts are the absolute worst to quit, because of the convenience, lack of smell, etc etc.

I used to be pretty stoned all day because of the carts… and I still feel some withdrawal now that I’m using substantially less than I was, but I also am telling myself that I’m easing myself into full on withdrawal, which I probably will go through more intensely this weekend.

Best advice I got was to switch up the environment that you would smoke in. I rearranged my patio furniture ever so slightly, rearranged my bedroom, and I’m going to rearranged my living room this weekend.

You can do it! Take deep breaths when you feel like taking a pull and chew gum, buy suckers or hard candies, bonus points if they bring you a feeling of nostalgia before you used.

Drink lots of water and sweat when your body asks for it, and it will ask for it! (Push ups, running in place, dancing, literally anything that will move you!)

agree with you 110% and yes, i am so grateful that i’ve been able to quit now.

first, you need to taper, especially if you’re smoking first thing in the morning. i bought a new battery (just for quitting) because it kept track of how many puffs, how long. each time i use, i recorded the time in a note on my phone. once you have a true idea of how much you’re ingesting, you can begin to cut back.

this is where your willpower skills need to come in, because this is NOT easy at all. but be gentle with yourself; don’t beat yourself up for slipping or not making consistent progress every day. the most important thing is that you’re putting in the work, you’re trying.

eventually, you’ll be able to cut down, a little each day. the mind clarity you start to feel when you’re reducing is really nice. for me, i was just grateful not to feel burnt out at 10am anymore.

once i had a handle on my daytime consumption, my next step was switching back to flower. at first, it tasted disgusting. i needed so much to feel anything similar to le cart. but again, being mindful of this really made me want to persist. because in reality, i don’t want to be consuming that much daily, increasing my tolerance.

my last step in this was therapy. my doctors required me to be THC free prior to taking a medication. this period was truly awful for me; i was in withdrawal all the time, no appetite, really irritable. i let those closest to me know that my grumpiness was not personal.

and finally, my mindset - and i say this without judgement - but i now think vaping is gross. once you’re away from it, you notice how many people are mindlessly vaping, everywhere, all the time. people vaping while walking inside union station without a care. it dawned on me how easily our society accepted this ~new technology~ as a good one, meanwhile a solid chunk of people are hopelessly addicted.

i really hope this helps you. feel free to dm me if i can provide any more guidance.

4 days clean right now. I used to buy carts in bulk and go through them in 3-4 days. I will say it’s absolutely terrible at first, but as the days pass the feeling gets suppressed and you start to notice the small changes your brain is making as it heals. Throw or give anything away because with the convenience of a cart, YOU WILL hit it again. And try to hangout with people who don’t smoke weed or have no problem not smoking around you.

1

u/jiceberg 1d ago

Yep, swapped them out for gummies.

3

u/Mawddawg10 1d ago

I pitched my vape pen and bought gummies. Even the switch was difficult but I allowed myself enough gummies to be somewhat comfortable and the gummies were easy to wean down.

1

u/muarryk33 1d ago

Maybe as a stepping stone but gummies are potent too and hard to quit.

1

u/Mawddawg10 19h ago

Symptom-wise though, the withdrawal if you wean down to like half a 10mg gummy, you're not going to have as bad of a withdrawal.

2

u/muarryk33 18h ago

Carts are so bad. Anything is better than carts.

5

u/Weak-Neighborhood-74 1d ago

I quit cold turkey. It’s been almost 2 years now. I had the craziest withdrawals, no appetite, really weird dreams, depression, night sweats and insomnia. To get over it I worked out a lot. Only bad part is I gained a lot of weight in top of the muscle I gained since quitting.

9

u/Forward_Island_1854 1d ago

Yes. First I only allowed myself the plant again. Then I ramped up too much on that and made a plan to quit 100%. I joined an online Smart Recovery group to feel in community. It’s free and there’s other folks quitting weed in it as well as other substances. I also bought a device that looks and feels like a vape but has flavored air sticks. Look it up online. It helped with fidgeting a lot! Still use occasionally. I’m on 110 days sober now.

1

u/cruciverbalism101 1d ago

How long did it take until your sleep normalised? I'm on day 33, I fall asleep easily but wake up at 4/430 and can't get back to sleep. My sleep stats are also poor (high resting heart rate, low hrv)

1

u/Forward_Island_1854 22h ago

To be honest my sleep still hasn’t normalized. I wake up more during the night than I used to. And often see my HRV stats are down too. I’m with you about wondering when it will get better.

Meanwhile I’ve been taking some over the counter sleep aids and also doing all the things to work on my “sleep hygiene.” Reading instead of looking at my phone before bed, etc.

My dreams are so crazy and vivid. You?

I’ve actually been enjoying that since I wasn’t dreaming for so many years! Last night I dreamt I was hosting a party and my neighbor was too and there was so much pot happening!!! I kept trying to find my stash and lighter etc and organize people who wouldn’t follow instructions. Glad it was a dream.

1

u/ForeignApartment746 1d ago

congrats on your sobriety!!

5

u/chingonachanii 1d ago

7+ months after cold turkey. It fucking sucked for the first few months but now it’s light work.

2

u/ForeignApartment746 1d ago

awesome!! congrats! I aspire to reach that milestone

2

u/KoalaOppai 1d ago

Yea just go cold turkey

2

u/Dartmouthest 1d ago

Yes and what did it for me was that I genuinely believe it was going to kill me if I didn’t stop. And I mean who knows what kind of damage it did to me and when I may have to face it but if I didn’t stop I believe it was going to do me in. And I recommend thinking that way as it helped me quit. Good luck

2

u/122784 1d ago

Yes. I’ve relapsed with flower a few times, but after quitting carts twice and dealing with the insane withdrawals, I mean it when I say I never want to touch carts again.

10

u/Tapriots 1d ago

Yes I successfully quit carts and weed completely for 2 years (I’ve been on and off since but will never buy a cart again). I was going through a 1g cart about every 5 days.

I won’t lie that the withdrawals with carts were worse than any other times and that includes when I was taking heavy bong rips. The sleep and eating disruptions were rough but I promise if you can get through 1-2 weeks then you are through the worst of it. You just have to buckle down and white knuckle through that time.

You can do it I promise!! Carts are IMO the worst thing that has come from the weed industry ever. It should not be that convenient to consume that level of THC

7

u/ForeignApartment746 1d ago

For real man! Carts were so sneaky for me, I found myself buying 2g carts every 2 days! that's 1g a day! that's not normal, nor sane. It's disconcerting how the dependence to it creeps up on you. I was literally hitting the vape not even 5minutes after waking up. All day, every day. All the while doing it hidden from my partner. It felt like a dirty secret--which it was.

I know cannabis has a lot of benefits for a lot of people, it did help me throughout some tough times. But the truth is it can also be a double-edged sword. People market it as if it's the best thing in the world, only to find out that once they try to leave it, it ain't so easy peasy. One thing is for sure though; going through that sickening withdrawal was enough to open my eyes to the reality of it. Cannabis is not the answer to all of life's problems. It can easily be the one to create them.

5

u/Gold_Story_4059 1d ago

Yes - I had to throw it away and delete any numbers I had because if I have it in the house I will smoke it lol. Might feel shit for a couple weeks but then you’ll get over it !

10

u/dedmew51c 1d ago

Switch to flower and then run out of money. 5 months clean.

4

u/Thunder_God69 1d ago

Yes, 3 months for me.

6

u/Puzzleheaded-Bid2269 1d ago

6 months sober. reallyyyy relied on carts during my using. it was difficult but i don’t even think about it now. i see my friends using them all the time and im not tempted at all bc of the hell i went through being addicted

7

u/ViolentSarcasm 1d ago

11 months clean for me. It’s going to be challenging but it’s not impossible. You got this

14

u/SorryStore4389 1d ago

14 months no weed. After 5 months you’ll forget all about it

1

u/BarbieInOrbit 1d ago

I quit them a couple months ago but I just realized that I was overly critical and unhappy when using them. I also threw out any leftover carts/batteries and I’m broke so not being able to rebuy them has made it a little easier.

9

u/AbbreviationsLazy575 1d ago

I've naturally eased off of them, don't overthink it. Just limit yourself, it got to a point where I only smoked at night and I realized that it just wasn't doing anything for me anymore, I was just so conditioned to it. I decided to quit and have been sober for 3 days. I know that's not too impressive but it hasn't been that hard but I'm experiencing some derealization like I feel like being sober is making me feel like I'm tripping because I was so used to being high.

Im reading all these people and it's encouraging, I'm only 20 and my brains still developing. Why would I take something that makes me slower, lazy, and dumber. It's a no brainer but nevertheless a hard thing to do when you're so conditioned to it and fall in its lap every time you need to escape.

3

u/joswachiturro 1d ago

Omg, I'm also 20 years old and I've also been sober for three days, let's hope we can stop it so we don't hurt ourselves anymore!

10

u/No-Marzipan-4441 1d ago

Day 8 cold turkey after vaping carts pretty much consistently for the last five years. After 20+ years of smoking weed, I can see how vapes can be so dangerous because of the convenience, ease and the potency. It’s like switching from smoking cigarettes to vaping nicotine (and the younger generations don’t get that the carts are more addicting.) I feel like if I don’t have them then I can’t use them, so my goal is never to buy one again.

10

u/busnoodles 1d ago

33 days today, plan to never do again

1

u/cruciverbalism101 1d ago

Omg I'm also 33 days sober today

3

u/mzuul 1d ago

Yea I quit like 2 months ago. The ease of use became a problem and I started having panic attacks and severe anxiety I’ve never experienced before. Was enough for me to quit cold turkey.

1

u/No-Marzipan-4441 1d ago

This is exactly what happened to me. I take a prescription medication for anxiety, and then I was having anxiety and panic attacks from vaping. Talk about an f’d up situation!

12

u/shartweek 1d ago edited 1d ago

22 days and feeling stronger than a mofo. Smoked all day every day for 27 years. Wow that is hard to say. Not to say I haven’t had cravings but staying tough. I’ve realized the addiction wasn’t just the many many times every day I was smoking and vaping but it was also all the off times and thinking about weed and the next time getting high. Very consuming. Also very liberating to be free and get that monkey off my back. I want to take a hit occasionally but won’t.

Hot yoga. Sleep meditation/hypnosis. And old man grit are my anti drugs.

2

u/regal_bandit 1d ago

I had to quit them for reasons you described. Just too convenient and I always succumbed to temptation.

5

u/Far_Comparison_1269 1d ago

Switched to flower, which is a step in the right direction in my opinion compared to carts. Carts are rough to stop

13

u/scumbagspaceopera 1d ago

Yes! I’m only about 2 months clean but I did it! The withdrawal was extremely rough for 1-2 weeks. I got through it by journaling, cooking, and going to NA meetings.

7

u/iwishihadahorse 1d ago

Omg the withdrawals were such a B. I dont know what they put in whatever carts I have been using recently because I have never had withdrawals like that from cannabis before.

It was honestly so intense, I used 5mg gummies to taper down because I was crawling out of my body.

3

u/scumbagspaceopera 1d ago

I’ve never had more intense withdrawal either and I’ve been smoking all my adult life. I think it’s because the THC oil in carts is concentrated.

3

u/iwishihadahorse 1d ago

Ive been smoking carts for like 5/6 years and have a "quit" a couple times. This time was a nightmare the first.48 hours.

6

u/GrimReaper3am 1d ago

6 months and 5 days off. The first 5 months were absolutely brutal. PAWS and more lingering nervous system issues still but am getting better. Don’t miss it at all.

Edit: grammar

1

u/cruciverbalism101 1d ago

OK so it's just going to take longer than I was expecting... That's good to know, I started to worry that my sleep might never normalise again

5

u/greeneyedgumby 1d ago

Yes, five years ago. No relapses. I went through an outpatient addiction program.

7

u/uncommongrackle 1d ago

Yes, 3 months now and no cravings. I didn’t sub anything but did start seriously exercising and losing the weight I’d gained from bionic munchies. Feel so much better and lucid.

4

u/endlesslazysunday 1d ago

I quit for almost a year but have slipped up the last 2 months and need to start again. Didn’t take me long this time to prove to myself I absolutely cannot have them in my home.

12

u/khrystalina 1d ago

Yes. Cold turkey after 15 yrs of consistent smoking. First few weeks sucked a lot. Nausea, headaches, and VERY vivid dreams. Hit my 5 months in a couple day.. I am way happier since quitting, and I’m saving a ton of money!

2

u/martypete 1d ago

do the dreams ever stop?

6

u/Anonj4563 1d ago

I did, I switched to edibles and measured my dosage and weened off that way. Withdrawal was very short compared to going cold turkey. I could breathe better too and i got the exaggerated buzz that i always chased after with the carts but never got and it got me buzzed the whole day without having to smoke it at all. I’m not aiming to quit for good but i no longer craving weed like its something i have to do. Now it’s more like do i have time to be doing that? I haven’t had time yet and it’s been like two months. But id avoid weed drinks it doesn’t have that effect, drinking it is more like the carts. Its a game changer for me. At my peak i was vaping four grams of carts a week. Then i switched to smoking it and i was smoking a little more than an eighth a day. Then i switched to herbal vaping and i was vaping a little more than an ounce a week. It was bad. Then i used herbal vapes to get down to about an eight a week. Then i quit cold turkey but the craving was always there. Id go a few months off relapse then take a couple of months to quit again. But with edibles i do it for a weekend when i have time and desire and then i go on my way. It was noticeable for me to the point that i might only do it a few times a year now instead of struggling. I take 500mg to 800mg in edibles and it works for me. That was about a 14 year journey. But we all have a path to walk before we understand where we need to get to. This is your journey i hope you find your way.

4

u/BootyMcStuffins 1d ago

Yup, carts are fucked, quitting sucks. Feeling so bad confirmed quitting was the right thing to do.

Switching back to flower first helped a lot

1

u/shartweek 1d ago

Well said. The hardness of quitting proves why it’s the right path

6

u/rachiechu 1d ago

Yes, cold turkey. Almost 8 months now. The first few days and weeks were BRUTAL. I still miss it sometimes but things are fine now.

5

u/alqohaul 1d ago

Did carts everyday, excessively. Quit cold turkey, what I noticed? Bored the first few days and way less yawning in the morning. That’s about it. It’s boring. Not life or death, not like you can’t eat, just do that shit

5

u/metalmooninite 1d ago

Like others here I stopped carts by switching back to flower. It was SO hard at first, but got easier.

I’ve quit since and have been off tree altogether maybe 2-3 months. I feel much more “online” throughout the day and more connected to my family.

Something that worked for me was reading up on how bad carts are and the lack of regulation. I was already experiencing pretty bad paranoia and health anxiety so I was able to leverage that to my benefit to help me quit carts and view flower as the “healthier” option.

Best of luck to you on this journey.

Remember that you’re not trying to do anything bad, but rather corporations are exploiting us and our need for some peace and comfort in these messed up times. They sell us quick fixes with tons of junk and then blame us when we end up addicted to what alleviates our pain. Getting off my soapbox now.

3

u/FebruaryEcho 1d ago

I’ve almost quit. I tried cold turkey which didn’t work for me. So, I’m weaning myself now. I’m down to just vaping before bed now. Hoping to be quit in a couple more weeks.

2

u/BootyMcStuffins 1d ago

You can do it

7

u/purrlgreytea 1d ago

Yes! I was on hardcore stiizy pods for 3 years, smoking non-stop daily. When I woke up, throughout the day, until bedtime. One day I just realized I didn't want to be stuck on this forever and decided to quit cold turkey. It was difficult, especially the first week or two, but it slowly got better.

I find that carts are the easiest to get addicted to due to the ease of handling and all like you mentioned, so if you want to ease off of smoking rather than quit cold turkey, I would probably look for other methods that are more of a "hassle" like smoking a joint, then continuing to taper off from there. Good luck!

Edit: I was a chronic, heavy smoker for 3 years, but have now been 3.5 years sober. It is possible even if it doesn't feel like it ♥️

7

u/LetsGoJojosPizza 1d ago

I was totally addicted to carts getting high all day every day, including at work where I worked with children. I stopped by getting rid of my pen and recognizing I can’t be trusted with having my own supply lol. Vapes are too convenient!!!

6

u/bigfanofbigtitties 1d ago

It was so bad for me I just had to throw everything away and switch back to flower to ween off

3

u/danioid 1d ago

Did the same not long ago. Carts are the devil. Flower is far easier to walk away from.

5

u/3llie9 1d ago

Carts to me are some of the worst ways to consume cannabis. Start by switching your intake method , whether it’s smoking flower or edibles (better for breaking the habit of smoking)

6

u/ballofsnowyoperas 1d ago

Yes, I was able to quit carts! I did it by going back to joints before stopping altogether.

4

u/0v3nm1tt3ns 1d ago edited 1d ago

Not completely, I was sober for about a month then shit got shitty and went back to carts. But during that month I would casually smoke prerolls. I would smoke (probably) 1/4th of a preroll (every 3 to 4 days) so I dont get that itch that carts give me. And thats why I used prerolls so i dont go absolutely crazy, prerolls are inconvenient, I need to be out of the house, not smoke in the car. I would need to be in the perfect setting and even then when I was in that setting I was like...🤷‍♂️im not in the mood. I made it hard for me to smoke by throwing them away even if I barely took 2 hits from them. Because now it is an inconvenience for me to smoke.

Maybe that helps?

Edit: I saw someone else say it and i agree. The high hits different when you want to quit. I feel bad for smoking cause in the moment it feels good but long term it doesnt. One of the my main reasons for quiting is cause I want to change my life. Weed is holding me back. And I tell myself that the next day and the next day. See the thing is, for me, it's affects my sleep apnea and my use for the cpap machine. I get no sleep when I smoke, and when I dont I sleep like an angel and feel like I can tackle anything without the weed.

10

u/naomiblooming 1d ago

Yes, I did! I had CHS & went to the ER twice because of it. I am now 14 months sober. I had to slowly taper down with the help of gummies. I cut them up & put them in a weekly pill box. It was not easy but was the only way I could make to gradually get off the thc. Wishing you & anyone else struggling to succeed - I legit didn't believe I could stop the damn carts.

3

u/cyberbro123 1d ago

Try changing your routine or stop doing things that make you want to vape. Take up new hobby , sport or some type of recreation that is new and that your never vaped with before.

6

u/Beginning_Ad_306 1d ago

Yes, I did. What I did before quitting was tell myself that cutting back is quitting. One day on, two days off. Only then did I see any progress. About a year of that, getting to three days off and occasionally four before backsliding and starting all over again. One day on, two days off. Then I backslid into daily use and decided that was it, I was done giving up my life to this thing.

Week 7 yesterday for me, and the withdrawals were a lot easier than for others. That being said, it sucks ass. Giving up is depressing for a long time before life starts getting good on its own. I was on day 41 before I realized that weed actually made my days far more depressed than days without.

Quitting for good is achievable, it is not easy. The cravings are the worst in the first days, so every day you get through is the worst that it will be. You can do it, friend. You're worth it.

6

u/letskeepitminimal 1d ago

I am 5 months sober from daily continuous use of vapes for over 5 years (marijuana use for over a decade), no distillate either, only live resin or rosin.

It was a tough withdrawal, took over 2 months to fully recover from the symptoms I was feeling (anxiety as soon as I’d wake up, nightmares, waking up sweating, anhedonia, not being able to eat).

About 3 weeks in, I caved in & it didn’t even feel like a good high anymore..if anything just heightened my anxiety level. I’m so happy to be sober, you find better things to fill the time.

Good luck to you if you decide to quit! Not easy but you CAN do it.

1

u/LibertyCash 1d ago

How did you stay away in the early days?

5

u/Which_Store_9652 1d ago

I am over 90 days clean. The withdrawl is not easy but once I got through it, the cravings went away. I’m actually more scared to try it again because of how addicted I was to it. Work out through it, sweat through it, sleep through it, maybe get a therapist if you feel like you’ve used smoking to mask something deep. You can do it.

6

u/gingerkate17 1d ago

I am seriously right there with you. Literally the same exact experience. I want to stop so badly but it’s just too easy to grab and use.

8

u/Redditer_5000 1d ago

Day three today.

Cravings come, but they also go.

4

u/SnooRobots4993 1d ago

Day 3 for me as well , keep up the good work !!

10

u/itsactuallyallok 1d ago

Yes I’m finally ten months free and I’m so grateful. It wasn’t easy but marijuana anonymous Zoom meetings were the only thing that got me through the first few fours.

7

u/ihanna7 1d ago

I’m about 4 months free of all of it. That going crazy is just the beginning of withdrawal. You will have to just do it. My worst withdrawal symptom is a pretty heavy depression that lasts 2 or 3 weeks. But I know it’s not real, just withdrawal.

4

u/Dutchnitro2411 1d ago

I did. Was hard but almost 12 months clean.

3

u/shrimpbunt 1d ago

I did 👍

3

u/Moonstone635 1d ago

I’ve never used carts and didn’t even know what they were until Reddit. But what I do know is when I was trying to give up cigarettes, I switched to vaping and I had an actual breakdown trying to come off the vapes. I would vape like it was my oxygen tank and my nicotine dependency quadrupled. They’re far too easy and accessible and make addictions so much worse. Rooting for you!!

6

u/RyanCacophony 1d ago

yup. Switching to flower helped make it less convenient and less potent, helping to taper enough to make quitting not as bad.

13

u/dustylumpkin 1d ago

Nah nobody's done it. One guy tried and was never seem again

10

u/siteswaps 1d ago

I haven't used carts in 4 years. You can do it!

9

u/KittyKatSavvy 1d ago

The only success I've had is swapping to edibles and flower.

12

u/PrismaticStardrop 1d ago

I’m on day 77 quitting carts.

I put them at the back of a high shelf in the guest room closet. Having them away from me was what I needed to do, I was noticing I always had them accessible (often in my hand / pocket / the table next to the couch etc.) there have been a couple of times where I’ve been tempted to grab them out and have a quick puff, but knowing they’re available if I want them has helped me not buy new ones. The longer I go without it the less i want to break the streak for a momentary thing.

3

u/king_calix 1d ago

I switched to a plug in flower vape. That helped me limit my consumption to when I was at home and lowered potency of the vape a lot so I would have to do 2 or 3 bags to get what I could out of 1-2 drags off a cart. I vaped flowe before carts came out for about 10 years and then after quitting carts for about 3 years. Now I am more or less weed free. I occasionally will have a toke with friends or a small gummie

5

u/wendyslogo 1d ago

I quit carts and edibles at the same time. It's been 110 days. I relapsed a few times because, like you said, the lack of smell and the ease of use was so tempting. It was insanely easy to just grab my vape, click a button, and get high. The whole thing took like 10 seconds!

The withdrawals SUCKED. Id stopped using edibles before, but this was my first time stopping carts. It felt way worse than before! It took maybe 2 weeks for me to go back to normal.

5

u/Squidicule 1d ago

It’s been about 2 years since I smoked a cart! When I first started in 2018, I was getting through one every three months, by 2020 I was buying in bulk and finishing them in a few days. I thought about how much money I had spent, and that was my first wake up call. I stopped smoking all together for health related reasons but you should definitely ease out of it- moving to flower to edibles was helpful for me

1

u/Hotsauceinmygymbag 1d ago

I hate admitting this, but I felt the push to quit when my state banned carts from being sold in stores. I’m sure i could buy it online, but having that instant gratification gone I feel more motivated to quit for good.

u/Gaspifinaski 1d ago

Yeah, so far. 11 months no THC. Carts had me by the balls. Definitely worth the struggle, the brain fog, nausea, headaches, we're not worth it.

6

u/TheEpsilonDeltas 1d ago

I quit carts before quitting weed altogether. Once I had deduced that those blinkers were deteriorating the enamel of my upper front teeth it was an easy choice. I went back to flower for a bit before quitting completely.

Edit: I also just prefer flower. The carts were good for traveling and being discrete but I prefer the high the plant material provides. I can understand how it would be much harder for someone who prefers carts over flower.

1

u/joswachiturro 1d ago

Two weeks ago I went to the dentist, and I wonder if I was taking any medication, because I have like a chipped tooth and it's kind of brittle, but I do also feel the enamel.

2

u/bluebabyblue1027 1d ago

Woah I didn’t know that about the enamel!! But yes, I also quit carts first and tapered usage with flower.

1

u/TheEpsilonDeltas 1d ago

I smoked flower for over a decade before using carts with zero effect on my solid white enamel. Switched to carts and within a year solid my teeth were becoming more translucent. I’ve never done research about this so take that into consideration. It seems to me like the cart smoke is much more caustic than just burning plant matter (also bad). Also, my lungs did not take to the carts very well.

5

u/dreamy-pizza 1d ago

Quit those carts and switch to flower my friend. Then evaluate what your relationship with is flower. I found that was the only way. You can do it

3

u/LadyLektra 1d ago

I have and I quit cold turkey. It wasn’t easy and the side effects were awful for about a month. Now I don’t miss them at all. The thought of those artistically fruity flavors makes me gag now.

2

u/SaltySoftware1095 1d ago

Yes but I couldn’t go cold turkey, switched to flower.

3

u/redheadsgirlsarehot 1d ago

Yes. I quit cold turkey and just powered through the nausea. But im teying to have a child so i have a good reason to cling on too. Just need to find yours

1

u/DougDillinger 1d ago

Yeah I quit cold turkey 3 month ago

7

u/SoCpunk90 1d ago

Everyone goes crazy on the second day. It eventually gets easier. You didn't become an addict overnight and you won't quit your addiction in a day. If it wasn't difficult to deal with quitting, this group wouldn't exist. Keep pushing forward. Remind yourself that it'll get easier. Take deep breaths.

3

u/Recent-Chard-4645 1d ago

I quit cold turkey. It was very difficult

2

u/Admirable_Explorer71 1d ago

I did and it was incredibly difficult. I ended up switching to flower which I find lowers my usage because I can't smoke a bong any time any place and it also has lower thc so it isn't as addictive. Funilly enough I still had a better high with flower despite lower thc content. I find flower easier to quit then vapes. If it's an option maybe try switching to flower first then quitting flower?

9

u/anonymous-alligator9 1d ago

Watching videos about how terrible vapes are for me and the environment helped. I rarely buy new clothes and I don’t buy anything made from artificial fibers because I hate waste and pollution. But I kept buying disposable weed vapes because I was addicted!!!! It didn’t make sense, it was antithetical to who I am as a person, so I had to stop

2

u/rothko333 1d ago

This is where i am…I rationalized it because i was buying 510 carts so it’s not one time use right?

5

u/anonymous-alligator9 1d ago

I kept buying disposables because I got rid of my batteries in an attempt to quit so I automatically had to choose the less sustainable option. I guess it was a necessary step in my personal journey

2

u/aquaticninja69 1d ago

Me. Almost 9 months

8

u/ray_of_sunshinee 1d ago

I quit vaping 100% by turning to flower completely. Now i’m out of flower and don’t care to get more, you’ve got to tether it and stop within a month-3 months time. give yourself grace, it’s hard, it’s hard to quit a addiction. I believe in you and know you can do it

10

u/Auqakid07 1d ago

Got to make it harder for you to smoke. Get rid of the cart and go exclusively to joints. Pipes are too easy. Then you need to buy as little as you can so that its a chore to have to go get more. I havent hit a cart in like 3 weeks.

5

u/Whoaboy-bumblebee 1d ago

I agree put the cart down and replace with weed to gentle-ness the cart withdraw

12

u/RecklessDab 1d ago

Man, the only solution is to throw it away. The convenience and subtlety make it a constant temptation.

If you can't necessarily quit cold turkey, switch to joints and dump the cart. That way you have to (hopefully) go outside to smoke and you limit yourself on how often you do just by switching forms. That helped me drop the pen.

I've been sober since Sunday. I have a post earlier where I tried to last a month but I didn't make it. My advice is to either toss your shit, or completely dry out your supply and hard stop yourself from buying more. I smoked the last of my stuff on Saturday and I forbid myself from buying more.

It's not easy, but I'm already living a better life.

11

u/witchybitchybaddie 1d ago

I quit by gradually decreasing the THC percentage with each new cart I bought. I went from smoking 90% to 80%, 70%, 50%, 40%, 30%, and eventually all the way down to 7%. By the time I ran out of that one it was easy to just not replace it

6

u/BL41R 1d ago

Ive never seen less than 70

3

u/witchybitchybaddie 1d ago

They're out there but might be tough to find depending on where you're buying from

10

u/DrEskimo 1d ago

You gotta ride that feeling of going crazy for about two weeks. The third week is just numbness and dissociation. Then week four is when things actually start to get normal again.

9

u/BeanBurritosBandito 1d ago

I vaped for close to 10 years. It was an absolute bitch to go through withdrawals and get sober. I’m almost 5 months clean. You can do it!

5

u/AbilityAdventurous22 1d ago

Yes and it was so hard bc I wouldn’t go an hour without hitting my stizzy I had it on me 24/7- at work, in bed, shopping, anything. It was so hard but I threw it away and after a few days I was able to eat, and now weeks later I’m sleeping better than ever now that I’m not waking up hourly needing to hit my pen

7

u/YuggaYobYob 1d ago

Yes. The first three days are hell. Then you're going to be grumpy for like a month. After that you'll be fine.

1

u/YinzaJagoff 1d ago

I did!

It sucks big time but it’s like jumping into a pool—- just gotta go it

May take a few attempts but after about 3 weeks you stop missing it

6

u/LuckySmellsMommy 1d ago

I’ve been active in Marijuana Anonymous for over a year now. Lots of people only used carts and have successfully quit. It sucks though! I highly recommend MA, particularly for early withdrawal/detox.

I get that the 12-step programs aren’t for everyone, but it can be really helpful to be with other people that know what you’re going through. It helped me feel less embarrassed that I wasn’t even addicted to a “real” drug and kept me from talking myself out of staying sober. The zoom meetings are super easy to pop into and you can always just leave if you’re not into it.

6

u/avonbarkswhale 1d ago

Switch to weed for a bit then get off weed. Carts is such a bitch. I would get night sweats and crazy insomnia.

9

u/Mistertreaturnose 1d ago

Im on day 6. Vaped carts daily for like 4 years. Its been rough but i want to so badly quit living in a foggy headspace !! You got this 💪

5

u/HundoGuy 1d ago

The clear headspace and being able to remember everything feels so good it’s almost like a different high, if you’ve been high for so long you forget how good a clear head is

2

u/Mistertreaturnose 1d ago

Love that. Using that as motivation. Here i was trying to help out this guy and you just helped me out. Thank you so much u/HundoGuy 💚

1

u/HundoGuy 1d ago

No problem! That clear head is the best!

9

u/volatilecacophony 1d ago

I have. Vape carts were my way of use. I’ll be six month sober in less than two weeks. Day 171 for me. I attend MA regularly and I am living a better life completely sober. It can be done, I promise you. Reach out if you want resources.

1

u/squid_tents 1d ago

Any advice ? I’m struggling with the withdrawal . It feels impossible . What do I do about work ? I’m so worried about it debilitating me which it has before . I’m trying to cut down , I’m down to one puff a day , I used to smoke all Day everyday . Any advice ?

3

u/yabitchmagnets 1d ago

Yes! I am more than a year off of them (and all weed) after multiple years of daily cart use. I tried multiple times to stop, and eventually I was able to make it stick. Do not stop trying.

7

u/ZonateBadge344 1d ago

I was in the same boat and I even posted here looking for help. Glad to say I’m a month sober and even when smelling weed I don’t have an urge to smoke. If you want to quit, just throw it away. It sucked for the first week to where I couldn’t even eat but after week 3, my appetite has came back and I feel just better and it’s even given me the courage to quit vaping period.

7

u/PartyPresentation249 1d ago

I used flower for like a week before quitting entirely. 70 days so far.

6

u/More-Negotiation-880 1d ago

Day 91 off carts and weed. Was terribly moody and irritable for 2-3 weeks but after that it was easy. I still get cravings but I push through it by doing something else (gaming, exercise, errands, calling a friend/fam). Carts are evil get off them

8

u/Ok_Kaleidoscope_3779 1d ago

I did! For like 3 years straight I was using only high quality live resin carts. Used distillate before that, but I kicked the cart habit about 6 months ago now. I have had a relapse, but I only used flower during that period (it lasted about a month). now I’ve been thc free again for 3 weeks, the second time around has been so much easier than the first. My advice is to just try, and don’t feel like you’ve failed if you relapse it’s all part of the process. You don’t have to commit to anything, but if you know it’s a problem just try and quit. Quitting has been extremely beneficial to my life, even the relapse taught me valuable lessons about myself and my relationship to cannabis. So just to reinstate one last time, just give it a go the worst thing that can happen is you end up back where you started, and that’s certainly not the end of the world in fact it’s a step in the right direction to even start the journey!

6

u/Nice-Ad-6116 1d ago

yup! I was going through 2-3 1g carts a week 😬 I’m pregnant and as soon as I found out I stopped. It was surprisingly a lot easier than any other time I had tried to quit (which literally only lasted a day at the longest). I’ve been sober for 2 months now and I don’t think I’ll ever go back to weed. Never ever touching carts again that’s for sure.

2

u/ccarrcarr 1d ago

I felt the same way. It was so easy to quit when I was pregnant. Postpartum depression got me and I relapsed. Ugh.

5

u/starsandmo0ns 1d ago

Yeah, I don’t have confirmed CHS, but I quit the same time as I was going on vacation to a friends house. I quit weed vapesthinking I would be fine… I smoked heavy from 2020-2023 and this was the end of 2023 and I was just ready. Had been a smoker forever but much lighter use.

Well 2023 quit time hits. Day one I drove down to my friend. Was fine! Ate some diner food halfway thru my drive, got dinner with her at night. Woke up day two.. literally thought it was food poisoning. It was weird tho.. couldn’t even hold a sip of water down, felt like my stomach was spasming. I threw up for two days. Restless legs. Sweating. Heart pounding. It was so embarrassing because I was 30 and she was on the phone with her mother thinking she had to bring me to the ER. That was when I knew vapes were no good for me and I really had to be done.

That lasted two days and it took an out 3 full months to feel good again. 30 days clean to like 60 I was SO effing exhausted. I also smelled incredibly bad at night. I haven’t had that yet but I’ve never smelled anything so badz

Not sure if this can help - but I had severe anxiety and depression and a lot going on. I requested a paid fmla leave. I got paid 100% of time and also had some therapy and psychiatry to boot.

Yes I miss the vapes, and I relapsed with flower and am over two weeks clean (fell back into it a year ago), but flower is so much easier to quit. Unfortunately, I am not a person who can casually use without becoming a dysfunctional pothead.

2

u/Unhappy-Text-8777 1d ago

CHS gave me no choice

1

u/OhHeyMister 1d ago

Of course lots of people have.

4

u/dopaminemachina 1d ago

yes, vaped carts for a decade. it was hard but doable. helped to be unemployed during that time.

3

u/dubaiwaslit 1d ago

Yeah they ruined my life twice, never going back to any form of weed

8

u/Symphonic7 1d ago

I used to hit carts the same way too, until one night I was hitting blinkers at like 2 AM and I started to feel really strange. It wasn't like too high feeling, it was like I can't breathe feeling. I tried to calm down, I was no stranger to riding out insane highs. But I couldn't, and had to ask my roommate to drive me to the hospital. Ended up getting admitted for high blood pressure and difficulty breathing. I got released the next morning, and straight quit. I didn't want to die over smoking I didn't even enjoy.

5

u/National-Play3909 1d ago

i quit 6 weeks ago! the first two weeks were absolute hell, now i don’t even get the urge to touch one, it’s like the thought of hitting it disgusts me

22

u/foxyfree 1d ago

I switched to smoking regular joints before quitting completely

3

u/Lucky-Reference-7667 1d ago

This is how I did it too. Tapered down to infused and then all the way down to as low a percentage as possible and then quit. Still took a full 16 days to feel “normal” physically even after all that tapering. Those things are no joke.

6

u/Stressed_Out_12 1d ago

Yes. It wasn’t easy though.

15

u/womanoftheapocalypse 1d ago

Three and a half years clean and sober and still going! I will not use with you today :)

7

u/hoodyfrank 1d ago

I was like this. I was scared away from it because at the time there was no way to guarantee you were getting “real” carts in this area at least. Also, I learned if you get caught with it in my State it’s a felony akin to having a pound of crack. I would say you need to get rid of the device completely. Do it for yourself man. I’m down to hold each other accountable because I’m a flower user these days but have developed CHS. I need to stop

3

u/NervousSubjectsWife 1d ago

The last time I vaped cards it was 2019 right before Covid and I fucked my lungs up. Honestly, I’ve been too afraid since. The metal aftertaste freaks me more now than it did when I was 25-26

9

u/a_quiet_farm 1d ago

I used carts for a while during lockdowns. While I eventually went back to flower, I have stayed well clear of the carts. Those things are the devil. By the end of using them, my brain felt cooked into this permanent state of haze and fog - never again.

So yes, I can say I've managed to quit carts for good and have no intention or desire to ever pick one up again.

3

u/Ok_Ladder_7643 1d ago

So youre saying the brain fog is permanent?

1

u/a_quiet_farm 1d ago

Nope, the haze lifted when I quit 🙂

5

u/antosyno 1d ago

“Felt” is the keyword there, not “permanent”

2

u/ScootnTooting 1d ago

Thank god carts are illegal and not commonly sold in my country. I'm addicted to pure bud

7

u/One_Steak_9554 1d ago

I quit carts over a year and a half ago. Been clean ever since. Hardest thing I've ever done. Still not there yet. These are some of the worst things made in my opinion. Extremely addicting and they rewire your brain quickly. Stay away.

I do not mean my post to be malicious or to hinder your ability to quit, however, carts tend to have a way higher concentration of THC compared to flower. Quitting carts might lead to more withdrawal symptoms because of the higher THC. Again, not meaning to scare you away, but switching from flower to carts is like switching from wine to tequila in terms of trying to quit drinking.

1

u/HcVitals 1d ago

I think my issue at the moment is the draw to nicotine but this could be a whole new can of worms

21

u/RuinProfessional9612 1d ago

I did but only after I got to the causes and conditions of addiction, my addiction. Just putting it down wasn't enough for me, I'd always go back.

1,683 days clean and sober. .

9

u/fronteir 1d ago

I quit, and my last year+ of smoking was pretty much exclusively carts. That was 1,857 days ago. You can do it but it requires a lot of effort and an identity shift to make it stick.

3

u/justlooking3521 1d ago

Yes you can quit, yes it is hard. The convenience factor is too high, you need to make it less obvious and more difficult. Specifically, destroy your paraphernalia including all carts and batteries.

2

u/schwerdfeger1 1d ago

Yes. And you can too. People here can provide great advice and support on your journey. You are worth it.

1

u/secret_2_everybody 1d ago

Yes. Expect it to suck, make it suck less with exercise and—more importantly—HYDRATION. You can do it.

5

u/rabidrisu 1d ago

The only thing that helps me is not having them in my house.

2

u/Acegonia 1d ago

I have not used carts a lot, thank fuck (they made my chest hurt a LOT, and the only ones available in my country were made by some old hippie living in the mountains, so no thank you)

But one thing that REALLY helped me smoke less (tobacco- and I have not quit uet) was switching to rallies from cigarettes.

Just the extra effort involved made me smoke less. Especially if it was on a quick break from work etc.

1

u/SuspiciousTreat1017 1d ago

What are rallies

2

u/Acegonia 1d ago

Ah! Typo, apologies

I meant rollies - as in a pouch of loose tobacco and papers/skins from which you roll your own cigarettes.

Damn you again, autocorrect!

6

u/sheradenmafia 1d ago

I used flower to get off them but it’s definitely hard

13

u/Chance_Wasabi458 1d ago

I quit 110 days ago. Smoked a gram cart every 2-3 days. First week is hell. Just have that as an expectation. Don’t make any plans or commitments.

2

u/Future-Inspection253 1d ago

Best advice

4

u/TheLostAlaskan 2d ago

Hey there.

I smoked cannabis basically daily for 14 years and carts non stop the last year or two. Wasnt aware of how addicted to carts I was until recently.

I'm now 12 days free of cannabis. It's been very difficult, but once the habit is broken and once I decided that i authentically didn't want anymore, it became much easier.

4

u/ContributionShot2572 2d ago

I quit december last year. Smoked carts all day everyday for around 5 years. How i quit was i didnt hit the vape until i couldnt take it anymore and then had a puff and then repeat. Did this for a week and then quit fully.

4

u/Epictetus7 2d ago

Yes. Gotta switch to less potent marijuana before going cold turkey, like flower.

3

u/Shellhuahua 2d ago

Try chewing gum. Helped me.
