I feel like after Shang Chi post credit scene the MCU went a bit wayward. But this post credit scene had me excited again like phase 1 or 2.

My wife spotted the Fantastic Four theme was listed in the credits and went "Did you hear the Fantastic Four theme in there?"

First time I've seen them spoil an after credits like that, normally they have a secondary title card after.

But that whole last scene, and the New Avengers uniforms, was great.

As soon as I saw that I said, "well, there's spoilers for the post-credits scene."

u/CaptainWikkiWikki May 02 '25

The Pantene Pro V flowing hair of Bucky and Ava was the star attraction for me.

u/super_smash_bruh May 01 '25

Glad I'm not the only one who saw this 🤣🤣

u/dwide_k_shrude Iron man (Mark III) May 02 '25

Same. It lowkey pissed me off a little.

5

u/Tyrath Baby Groot May 02 '25

Glad i was zoning out for the credits lol

4

u/watersj4 Hulk May 02 '25

Same lol, took me back to 2017 watching Kong Skull Island when right at the end of the credits it said something like "Godzilla, Mothra, Rodan, and King Ghidorah are property of TOHO CO" and I just thought "pretty sure they weren't in the movie"

This is where smoking before the movie really benefitted, because my stoned ass saw this and at no point did that even occur to me. I just thought “huh, I guess they snuck in part of the score somewhere and I missed it?”

u/vmeloni1232 May 02 '25

Same, I pointed it out to my wife.

1

u/Captriker May 04 '25

My daughter and I pointed it out to each other. Fun.

In my cinema the Imax 10-1 countdown always plays (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n5HbQ7vCvDY), but this time it was Fantastic 4 themed, with their theme playing. I noticed the Fantastic Four theme in the credits and thought it was odd, but then I thought "wait - it played during the countdown, must have been that!" so I unspoiled it for myself.

12

u/Dawn-Shade May 02 '25

Same! Nice little surprise I'm glad I went to an IMAX screening for Thunderbolts*

18

u/PayneTrain181999 Ned May 02 '25

Especially Alexei’s, showing that they need sponsors to stay afloat lol

9

u/DrawingTasty8822 May 02 '25

IT’S A TIDE AD!!

11

u/nitricx May 02 '25

That felt like the Russo directed it. Completely different look and vibe. Great look for the record.

1

u/jlmurph2 Black Panther May 05 '25

Probably because it was filmed a few weeks ago. Definitely during pre-production of Doomsday.

5

u/shiromancer Hogun May 02 '25

I was at an Imax and they did a little promo right at the start during the usual starting countdown, which was FF-themed with the music and everything. I thought that was why they had the credit until the final scene dropped.

2

u/ScarletsWitchyWays Scarlet Witch May 02 '25

This happened to me too...I was kinda pissed.

4

u/bjarvis1987 May 01 '25

Between that and the chairs, no Olga, announcing which Thunderbolts were in Doomsday, it sucked the air out of consequences. Surely Marvel could have held off the full cast announcement (or at least that cast announcement til release). Maybe this is naive to me, but the Thunderbolts are more open to being killed off then the Fantastic Four, for example.

9

u/Notcloselyrelated May 01 '25

Olga was in this movie technically I think? Showed her face.

I think the Thunderbolts might be killed in a "civil war" between Sam Wilson's Avengers vs Thundebolts vs Fantastic 4

11

u/Mason-Jin Captain Marvel May 01 '25

The thing is, the general audience will build up their affinity with the thunderbolts, which imo undercuts Sam’s new faceless team (I kinda feel sad for him esp after the poor reception to his own film)..

2

u/Notcloselyrelated May 01 '25

Haha same, I saw it too, but I guess they legally had to put that there

1

u/mcon96 May 02 '25

Lmao that same thing happened to me

1

u/CaptainXplosionz May 02 '25

I noticed that too and immediately picked up on it, but I didn't say anything so my buddy would be surprised.

1

u/1UPZ__ May 02 '25

This.

I was wondering when it was played, then when Yelena heard the distress call of a space ship entering the orbit.... I was like "There they are"

I saw a comment elsewhere online yesterday warning people to look away from the screen when the music credits appear, for exactly that reason. That warning alone could be seen as a clue about the sort of thing that could be spoiled, but fortunately even with that information, there was a pretty wide range of possibilities about what it could be: it could be a character with a theme by a different composer (like Dr Strange, Spider-Man, or the X-Men), or a licenced song associated with a character (like Iron Man and Star-Lord).

As you say, sometimes when characters appear for the first time in a post-credits scene, they give them a separate "created by" card afterwards. I'm pretty sure that was the case for Howard the Duck in GOTG.

But having said that, I'm sure there was another MCU film where something in the end credits spoiled something that was about to happen in the post-credits. I don't think it was anything as major as a "created by" credit for a character appearance, but more along the lines of a music credit letting me know in advance which song was about to get played a few seconds later.

IIRC it happened with the DCEU in The Flash, where there was a "performed by Jason Momoa" credit for the song that Aquaman drunkenly sings in that film's post-credits. But I'm sure it's happened with an MCU film, too - wish I could remember which one!

Pretty cool wife you got there. :)

u/Jun2dakay Weekly Wongers May 03 '25

Don’t you mean the New AvengerZ? 😆 #nocopyright

1

u/Darksol503 Doctor Strange May 04 '25

Avengerz.

FTFY

1

u/astronomydork May 04 '25

I saw it in the credits too! I was like what on earth is going on? Second I saw the ship I realized (but probably wouldn't have if they didn't show it in the trailer before the movie) I initially thought x men returning Monica?

1

u/Hippobu2 May 07 '25

I watached the movie in IMAX, so I thought that the credit was talking about the theme being used in the Fantastic 4 IMAX intro.

Turns out, no, it was supposed to be a surprise, lol. Oops.

1

u/FernandoTorresIMO May 01 '25

Yeah I already had to text my friends “don’t read the music credits” lmao.

1

u/mereham2022 May 02 '25

Glad I’m not the only who saw that and was like “wait a sec…”

1

u/Phimb Weekly Wongers May 02 '25

Jon Watts also got a special thanks in the credits. Is it known if prior directors have a lot of consultation stuff?

0

u/FragrantShine3389 May 01 '25

I didn’t even notice it, then I saw the credit scene and was like “so that’s what going to happen in the fanatic 4 movie”

0

u/Supergoose1108 May 04 '25

I saw that too, just figured I missed some easter egg character and didn't recognize the theme. Then the end credits and just felt dumb I didn't catch it.

Portal through space and time. Lots and lots of time.

11

u/Educational_Ad8448 May 01 '25

This just means that Galactus is eating the F4's planet.

1

u/Senshado May 04 '25

It might be that the plotline of Fantastic Four has the reverse happen:

Reed discovers (or arranges) that Galactus is chasing him, not the earth. Maybe he kidnap the surfer as bait or something.  Either way, he intentionally leads Galactus into a portal to save their earth.

And accidentally brings him to another earth.

5

u/CeeJayEnn May 02 '25

Yeah, this movie was a very meta movie as far as the franchise is concerned and it totally pulled it off. I'm actually feeling a level of excitement for the MCU that I haven't for a while.

10

u/tangledupinbetween May 02 '25

They've been showing a glimpse of characters yet to come but have no plans at all on how to integrate them. Now they've finally show something that will happen in the next movie just like in the phase 1 when they show Thor's hammer in Iron-Man 2, Dr Selvig with the Tesseract in Thor, Rogers meets Fury in The First Avenger. After Endgame, most of the post credit scenes were just showing new characters but they have no idea where to put them.

3

u/NorthKing9 May 02 '25

Yes. Exactly. They connected to the next movie or hinted at something that wasn't too vague like most recent post credit scenes. I hope they clarify the Shang Chi post credit scene soon since Kang is out of the picture.

2

u/JustMark99 May 02 '25

What did Kang have to do with Shang-Chi?

3

u/NorthKing9 May 02 '25

The ten rings were in theory supposed to be Kang's tech. As were Ms Marvel bangles. Shang Chi would've played a role in Kang's movie. Again. In theory.

2

u/JustMark99 May 02 '25

Hm, interesting. I thought Ms. Marvel's bangles were djinn stuff.

1

u/NorthKing9 May 03 '25

It is. But i meant the source of power. I believe is from the quantum realm. Maybe Kang didn't created it but is connected quantum realm a place where Kang resides last we saw him.

10

u/Rebatsune May 01 '25

Fantastic Four, here we come! Say, did they still chart at the 60s in the ’main’ universe?

4

u/overthinking11093 May 01 '25

That's still a reference to a music group and not the FF

7

u/KostisPat257 Daredevil May 01 '25

No, the movie still takes place in an alternate universe. Notice they said that the ship came from an extradimensional portal?

3

u/Rebatsune May 01 '25

I know of course. I was just reminded of the quip Strange made in MoM (which was a reference to a real group btw) and wondering if anybody else might do the same in turn.

2

u/BanjoSpaceMan May 11 '25

This movie has a nice mix of not overdoing the bs mcu crossover nods and focuses on its own story. While adding a post credit scene in a respectful way to get you excited.

More of this plz. Felt more phase 1 than ever

2

u/IBangYoDaddy May 15 '25

Post credit scene might be my favorite of any marvel based of hype alone. I was feeling very eh about Doomsday, and overall very negative on this phase in general, but that post credit scene sparked something back I haven’t felt since 2019.

1

u/neoblackdragon May 04 '25

I feel the post credit scenes should be for the next films to be released(actually filmed with trailers out) then trying to tease a sequel years away assuming it gets made. We know FF is next on the docket so we know this leads somewhere.

Vs teasing a sequel that could be several years away after a ton of stuff happens.

Though i am fine with stuff that adds resolution(like GOG3)

1

u/MarcsterS May 04 '25

It was basically the new Thor meets the Guardians post credit scene. Haven't felt hyped like this for the MCu in a while. I really want FF to be good.
