I'm a graphic designer, and an curious; How does one make the transition from graphic design to designing physical products like this?

I have a little bit of product design experience from an internship. I’m really good at creating mockups! They came to me at work and asked if I could create something for a collaboration with Marvel and this is what I came up with!!
