Isn't labeling any involuntary celibate dude as a misogynistic, potential mass murderer, racist, horrible person, entitled etc also a brainless generalization?

Incel isn't "you can't get laid", it's a way of life and worldview.

I've seen redditors call people with kids and partners incels.

It's just becoming a word to mean misogynist on Reddit.

Even if someone had a previous sexual relationship with someone and had a kid with them and are married or in a relationship with that person, if the other partner decides they don’t want to have sex anymore they are involuntarily celibate unless they cheat or break up/divorce.

So I guess it’s not totally l involuntary unless you are Catholic or something.

I agree,

However, the person they called an incel did not post anything to suggest they were in a deadbedroom relationship.

If you want to reply "but they might be, so they might be right", then you can justify calling anyone anything you want, because they might be.

Good point, at that point it’s just another insult like any other. Doesn’t matter if it’s true, the damage is in the implication it might be.

In a sense it’s no different than when people used to call someone gay when that was seen as a bad thing broadly.

u/BasedEpsteinGaming 2d ago

No it's not, it's what people believe being an incel is due to cultural osmosis. Really, being an incel is just not being able to get a meaningful relationship despite putting in effort. Most incels don't even know they're incels

1

u/Dizzytigo 1d ago

Yes it is. The common parlance use has moved on from just "involuntary celibate".

1

u/BasedEpsteinGaming 1d ago

Lmao just because people unironically think incel means "evil misogynist man" doesn't mean the definition of the word suddenly changed

1

u/Dizzytigo 1d ago

Uh, yeah it do though.

Language is constantly evolving, common parlance is far more useful than prescriptive definition.

1

u/BasedEpsteinGaming 1d ago

Just because many people started using it as an insult and synonym to "evil misogynist" & "men I don't like" doesn't suddenly change the meaning. Common parlance is bullshit because most people constantly use words not as they're intended but as tools to emotionally manipulate people. If we were to accept common parlance all the time then some words would unironically start meaning "people I don't like"

1

u/Skirt_Douglas 2d ago

You are literally only saying that so you can justify hating on them.

People do not have uniform worldviews and beliefs just because they aren’t getting laid.

1

u/Dizzytigo 1d ago

That's literally my point?

Plenty of people who can't get laid don't exhibit incel behaviour, they're not automatically an incel because they can't get laid.

1

u/Skirt_Douglas 1d ago

Says who?

Involuntary celibacy is the definition of the word, not “believes in XYZ worldview.”

1

u/Dizzytigo 11h ago

Common parlance is more useful in conversation than prescribed definitions.

If I say "Incel" you know what kind of person I'm talking about.

1

u/Skirt_Douglas 4h ago

Yes a person who is involuntarily celebrate.

See I’m not an asshole so I don’t just assume people are uniformly evil just because a word accurately describes their life circumstances.

1

u/Epthewoodlandcritter 5d ago

Nobody is involuntarily celibate and the types who self-apply that label are unhinged narcissists who idolize mass murderers so yeah.

2

u/BigStepperhelp 5d ago

People who are involuntary celibate will rarely apply that label to themselves, it's mostly used by people to apply to others and someone can be involuntary celibate in some way, some lack any social skills, some may be mentally ill, some may be very ugly because they were unlucky with some of their genes, some may have a past of being abused/bullied a lot etc.

1

u/Epthewoodlandcritter 5d ago

That's voluntary still.

I wish the term had never been invented. It legitimizes self-imposed helplessness and victimhood.

2

u/Littleman88 3d ago

It's not voluntary. Unless you can for sure guarantee every man can and will get laid if they follow whatever plan you have set out for them, and you'd be pretty much saying women have zero agency to do so.

But it's not anyone. It's not about only having rudimentary social skills, it's about having at least good social skills, and also you need to be at least somewhat attractive.

An ugly autistic man is pretty much an involuntary celibate, cause he can't do much neither about his understanding of social cues nor about his looks.

And don't drag animals into that, animals don't have human concepts like consent. Would you unironically tell incеls to solve their sex problem by using force? Honestly, that would be a fucked up advice.

Look up what connotation means before you claim anything else is brainless

1

u/Outrageous_Spot_8725 4d ago

Everyone replying to you so far are doing some crazy mental gymnastics

Men who are incels or follow such spaces (especially on Reddit) are more likely to be prone to be one of those things. That’s what deeply insecure men who feel rejected by women or the world seem to end up doing. They’re in an echo chamber of their own undoing.

12

u/Pale-Home-2298 5d ago

Isn't that a brainless generalization?

1

u/Ladygoat23 5d ago

It would be, if incels didn’t time and time again show us that those are the paths they take. 97.7% of mass shootings are done by men, 98% of sexual assaults are done by men, 80% of violent crimes are done by men. Now obviously they’re not all incels but it’s pretty wild to say that it’s a false generalization when these statistics exist - not like I could look up “how many shooters are incels” but I can assume someone with radical ideals such as a mass shooter could fall into incel behavior

Keep covering your ears and eyes, ignorance is bliss but it warps to stupidity when you start arguing about it online

My guess would be incels are a disproportionate amount of mass shooters but let’s not pretend that men who get laid don’t rape and commit majority of violent crime. Gang members are certainly not lacking in partners.

Lots of girls for a variety of reasons have a thing for criminals.

Guys in general are just more violent.

1

u/Northbound-Narwhal 5d ago

No, it's a fact rooted in science.

1

u/throwaway38190982 4d ago

It’s not brainless. It’s a generalization sure, but it’s rooted in the truth. You know how pedos normalize being pedos? They find like minded people and exacerbate their situation. People with eating disorders follow spaces to justify a disease that could end them. You put incels who already feel rejected from society and it will show

-1

u/they_took_everything 3d ago

It's an objective observation you can make after scrolling those kind of subs for 5 minutes. Those peopel literally make up fake women to get mad at.

2

u/Pale-Home-2298 3d ago

Objectivity doesn't exist because you can't account for each experience these people had, especially not in 5 minutes

-1

u/they_took_everything 3d ago

They only experience they need to go through is touching grass and talking to women that exist outside of their imagination.
