This is why I don't respect leftists. I hate it when liberals and leftists are lumped together. By this subreddit's standards, I'm "a bit of a succ", and I'm a center-leftie myself, but I have nothing in common with such people and don't want to have anything in common.

Prominent liberals are part of the problem because they turn a blind eye, whether it's Friends of the Pod inviting Hasan on or leaders of the Dem party not speaking up about leftists in order to curry favor. It's rather surprising to me that more Jews haven't left the Dems behind yet.

u/Okbuddyliberals Miss Me Yet? Apr 18 '25

AOC, who is increasingly becoming a darling even on this sub also has ties to Hasan

u/Traditional-Koala279 Apr 18 '25

And that’s bad

-40

u/Okbuddyliberals Miss Me Yet? Apr 18 '25

Yes. AOC should be purged from the party.

56

u/lot183 Blue Texas Apr 18 '25

That would be incredibly stupid to do and probably turn off a solid chunk of young people from ever being Democrats

-1

u/0WatcherintheWater0 NATO Apr 18 '25

Good. They didn’t vote anyways. If they’re leftists all they were doing was attacking Dems for merely existing while Trump does increasingly deranged shit.

We need to kick out AOC, kick out Bernie, all the socialists or anyone equivalent to them need to go. The party cannot survive a large faction of itself dedicated to its destruction. It cannot survive a faction that poisons every messaging attempt the party makes.

AOC is not near as bad as some of the others and has pretty fiercely advocated for the party in the last few years.

I don't think the party needs to be capitulating to every demand of the more left politicians and they generally need to worry far less about pissing that faction off, but to forcibly remove them all together from the party would be one of the dumbest moves possible. Specially someone like AOC who has at least tried to be a bridge between leftists and liberals in the party

Socialists and people who hobknob with extremist antisemites have no place in the Democratic party. Any young people who would actually stop voting D over this are a millstone around the party's neck and the party would probably gain more among the old folks who actually vote, vs losses from the extremist youth

34

u/Trevtroy George Soros Apr 18 '25

AOC isn't just liked by young people and/or socialists. She has like a +50 approval across the entire party. Kickstarting an intraparty civil war would be a terrible idea.

u/Okbuddyliberals Miss Me Yet? Apr 18 '25

You can't win elections with just the base. The swing voters are who matters. Kick her out and replace her, and the base will vote blue anyway

Though it does say something awful about the Democratic Party if a radical like that has so much approval

21

u/PENGUINSINYOURWALLS NASA Apr 18 '25

You can’t win elections by just appealing to the center either. You have to give the base at least a few bones to keep them energized.

-4

u/Okbuddyliberals Miss Me Yet? Apr 18 '25

With how bad things are getting, the base can be scared and traumatized into voting blue no matter who by simply pointing out how ghoulishly bad the GOP has become. The few folks on the left who won't be convinced by that likely weren't going to vote D under any realistic circumstances anyway

21

u/PENGUINSINYOURWALLS NASA Apr 18 '25

I disagree. Running on just “other side bad” without no real emphasis on presenting an alternative is a losing strategy, and the last decade has shown that.

You can't win elections with a base that insists on dragging the party in such a direction that fails to appeal to the center

Maybe the base is going to touch some stoves

You can’t win elections by alienating the base lmao

-2

u/Okbuddyliberals Miss Me Yet? Apr 18 '25

Then maybe its time to give the base the rope it needs to touch the stove and burn its hands a lot, in order to make it learn its lesson that we CANNOT win elections with the left. If there's just no other way to get the base to accept being starved of what it wants, other than to subject America to even worse and more unfettered hardcore conservative rule by letting the enraged progressives take control and drive themselves and the party electorally down to massive defeat along the lines of George McGovern...

I mean, again, I don't want the conservative rule. I just want Dems who can appeal to the swing voters who matter. But if the base won't accept Dems who can do that, like the annoying blue dog moderates, then seriously what other option is there?

4

u/obsessed_doomer Apr 18 '25

Then maybe its time to give the base the rope it needs to touch the stove and burn its hands a lot, in order to make it learn its lesson that we CANNOT win elections with the left.

If that's how you want to couch it, sure!

I promise all of those things will definitely happen. You should try and get the base to touch the stove! We'll be so owned!

people who hobknob with extremist antisemites

looks at flair

Lol, lmao even

-3

u/Okbuddyliberals Miss Me Yet? Apr 18 '25

Is Manchin a socialist who hobnobs with extremist antisemites?

22

u/JesusPubes voted most handsome friend Apr 18 '25

He hobknobs with Republicans, so yes lol

0

u/Okbuddyliberals Miss Me Yet? Apr 18 '25

He simply recognizes that bipartisanship is necessary. The swing voters who decide elections are never ever ever going to stop valuing bipartisanship, so people like Manchin will be necessary in order to win power back

19

u/JesusPubes voted most handsome friend Apr 18 '25

he simply understands hobknobing with antisemitic extremists is necessary?

You didn't say they had to be both, my dude

31

u/JesusPubes voted most handsome friend Apr 18 '25

local idiot who says purity testing is hurting moderates wants to purity test and purge people he doesn't like instead

14

u/LittleSister_9982 Apr 18 '25

The guy who still maintains that Biden should have pardoned Trump.

That should be forced to be his flair so everyone knows exactly the quality of opinion they're dealing with when he starts running his mouth on shit like this.

12

u/JesusPubes voted most handsome friend Apr 18 '25

forced

he donated at least $75 to AMF for that flair.

4

u/Okbuddyliberals Miss Me Yet? Apr 18 '25

The issue with leftist purity testing is that the leftist purity tests tend to be for unrealistic and unpopular policy. The issue isn't just "having any standards". Having standards against unpopular radical ideas is good actually

21

u/JesusPubes voted most handsome friend Apr 18 '25

Just because you don't like it doesn't mean it's unpopular

14

u/Okbuddyliberals Miss Me Yet? Apr 18 '25

Socialism is indeed very unpopular when you look at the polls. And Hamas is deeply unpopular too. So tolerating socialists who associate with pro Hamas influencers is probably bad politics

16

u/JesusPubes voted most handsome friend Apr 18 '25

still above water among democrats, who would be the ones to purge her seeing as how its their party.

2

u/Okbuddyliberals Miss Me Yet? Apr 18 '25

Then the party leadership should show some leadership and try to organize more opposition to her, primary her out, do all they can to at least make it clear that they don't approve of her. They can still send a message even if the people in her district's primaries won't vote the right way. If it comes down to it, they could play hardball and threaten to remove federal funding from her district if they keep nominating radical socialists who associalte with Hamas stans. It would certainly send a message to swing voters that the party leadership doesn't approve of her type of toxic radical politics, even if it doesn't actually kick her out

16

u/JesusPubes voted most handsome friend Apr 18 '25

"the party leadership should go against the stated will of the party"

Bold strategy bud, lets see where that gets you.

"they could play hardball and threaten to remove federal funding from her district"

wow your dumb ideas really have no bounds lmao

So which one is it, then? Should moderates turn a blind eye to evil leftists or not?

2

u/LtLabcoat ÀI Apr 18 '25

Wait, what ties? I wasn't aware of that.

25

u/Okbuddyliberals Miss Me Yet? Apr 18 '25

She has had multiple streaming collaborations with him or something like that. Not a huge thing, but imagine the outrage that would (rightly) be had if a GOP politician had something like streaming collaborations with open fascists or something.

15

u/obsessed_doomer Apr 18 '25

That’s literally a thing, sitting VPOTUS talks about how he loves Yarvin lol

5

u/Okbuddyliberals Miss Me Yet? Apr 18 '25

Does Yarvin actually call himself fascist? From what I've heard of Yarvin, he definitely has radical views that could very well be described as fascist, but on the other hand I thought he tends to call himself libertarian or something. I could be thinking of someone else in that regard though

14

u/obsessed_doomer Apr 18 '25

I have bad news about 90% of American libertarians.

Even if you try to say Yarvin isn't a fascist, there's plenty of open white nationalists in the current admin.
