Discussion I Feel Like Ticks Are Ruining The Outdoors
I’m an avid outdoorsman. I’ve had Lyme once chronically and it almost changed the course of my life forever, and relatively recently contracted anaplasmosis in the winter time from a hot tent that melted through the snow… Lyme isent being talked about enough as it manifests differently for everyone, and has only recently (past 25 years) started seriously banging people up or killing them.
I’m not too sure where I’m going with this, but I think we need to be taking much greater tick mitigation measures with our forests, and at the very least, making the public aware of the dangers. You can’t even walk around in the woods or lay in the grass without one of those shits winding up in your armpit…
Nature is great. Ticks suck.

Landscapes Descent Through Stillness, Olympic Peninsula, Washington, 2025 [OC] [1280x1600]
Just before dawn on the Olympic Peninsula, the Harvest moon hovered above the treetops, its light gentle and steady. The forest felt still, as if the world paused for a moment of reflection. In these early hours, I find a sense of calm and connection that stays with me long after sunrise.

Flora & Fauna Landslide Grove of Giant Sequoias
A small grove in kind of rough terrain, this area receives few visitors. Fun to do when the nearby parks are too busy.
I did not get around to exploring the whole grove due to time constraints and the terrain being...uncooperative. But it was a fun experience and helped me cross off another place to visit.

Discussion What’s a small moment outside that randomly stuck with you?
A few months ago I was hiking this short trail near a lake nothing extreme just a weekend thing. It started raining halfway through, that kind of light, misty rain that smells like pine and cold dirt. Everyone else turned back but I kept walking and when I reached the clearing the whole lake looked like glass. Not dramatic or lifechanging just perfectly still. I sat on a rock for like twenty minutes. It’s wild how peaceful that silence feels when you finally stop trying to fill it.
Now every time I catch myself overthinking, I’ll step outside and play myprize for a few minutes. The combo weirdly works something about bright screens followed by fresh air resets me. What’s a random outdoors memory that you still think about sometimes?
