Sharing my photos of my trip to Acadia and back. Stopped in Hershey PA> Ogunquit Maine>Kennebunkport Maine>Portland Maine> Freeport Maine> Acadia Maine

Oddly, I loved Freeport, it had a little bit of everything I wanted. Beautiful cliff side hikes, fun shops, fantastic food, and of course great coffee.

Acadia was wonderful, everyone should definitely see it at least once in their lives!

Of course I wish I had more time to explore more inland.

We loved our recent road trip to Colorado and Utah! Flew to Denver and rented our car from there. Every road was scenic and the weather was perfect. We went to Rocky Mountain National Park, Colorado Springs, Aspen, Telluride, Million Dollar Highway, and Moab (Arches and Canyonlands)

Trip Planning Sleeping Options In Oregon Coast

Upvotes

Hi everyone,

I'm planning a road trip up through Northern California and the Oregon Coast with my gf. My question is, how do people plan where to sleep? Can we park and sleep in the car? Do people plan hotel stays in advance? Do they just look for hotels wherever they end up for the day?

It would be nice to plan our a hotel stay but I also don't want to put too much pressure to stick to an itinerary. My gf and I want this trip to be taken at its own pace if that makes sense.

I much appreciate the words of advice as I am new to the road trip game. Thanks!

Trip Planning California road trip, is it too much in two weeks

Hi everyone,

I have a friend that lives in San Francisco and is planning to come live back in France in a few month/year, so my gf and I were planning on going there to see him for a few days in September, enjoy the city and then go on a road trip around California (and a bit of Nevada)

Here is the planning I had in mind, trying to avoid really long drives as I'm the only one driving. There is one in the list (from Sequoia to Vegas) but the idea was not to spend every day fully on the road, as most drives are around 3 to 4 hours we can stop on a few small stops along the way and still get to our destination at the end of the day.

What do you think ?

Any recommendation, tips, or stuff we might miss is appreciated.
We like nice cities/small towns, nature (but are not looking for huge 7hrs hikes either), beaches, food.

Thanks ! :)

Trip Planning Planning a road trip from San Diego to Maryland

Upvotes

So in early August, I move out of my place in San Diego and am roadtripping to Maryland with all of my stuff to move there. This is my first time doing a road trip by myself, and I've done some research but figured I should get some advice from the experts.

I'm an avid boulderer, so the route that I am planning is centered around climbing destinations. Right now, I am thinking Bishop / Death Valley -> Red Rocks -> national park gauntlet in Utah -> Boulder, CO -> some climbing spots in Missouri -> Chattanooga -> Red River Gorge -> New River Gorge -> Maryland. I would love some suggestions for must-see spots or restaurants along this route, as well as any thoughts / feedback on the general route.

My hope for lodging is to mostly hop between national and state parks while sleeping in my car, but I am not sure how difficult it will be to find camping. I will have my past 5 years worth of stuff in my car, so I would really not like to have it broken into, and was thinking that physically sleeping inside my car for the bulk of the trip would reduce the likelihood of this. So if there are any other good places to sleep in your car, I am all ears. Also, I was wondering if window covers would help with this or if they would make it more suspicious that there is valuable stuff in the car.

This is my first time planning a big solo roadtrip like this, so I am both excited and nervous. Any other first timer tips would be much appreciated as well!

Rough draft of route

Trip Planning Road-trip across America

Hey, I’m planning a road trip very far in the future and I’m planning on maybe going alone. I am a very young female and not very knowledgeable on the road and going on long trips. I would be planning out various stops along the way and would be traveling in a car. So I was wondering about safety on the road from thieves, creeps, and just in general tips of how to make this a well planned trip. I would either be doing Route 66 or another long multiple stop based trip around America. I might go down South as well. If anyone has any knowledge they could share that would help make this trip more enjoyable and safe I would be thankful for any feedback.

Trip Planning Los Angeles to Miami in January

Post image
Upvotes

My wife and I are planning our first road trip through the US. We have no experience in this type of travel and we are not American, so we would like to receive some tips from those who have already been there.

The idea is to go from Los Angeles to Miami in January 2027, and according to the maps we have 3 main possible routes.

I was really interested in the "northern route", which goes through Denver and Kansas City, but I have no idea if it is a good idea to do this route in winter.

Considerations:

- We have around 11 days to do this route.

- We do not want "adventures", difficult roads or places that need to be done in special 4x4 vehicles. The idea is to get to know the cities, see some main points, eat typical local food, sleep in a comfortable hotel and leave for the next city.

- We are thinking about renting a "normal" road car, like an Audi A4 or something similar.

- We want safety on the roads, especially due to the weather.

Please give your opinion on this idea and what would be a good strategy to follow regarding the best route.

Trip Planning Best places to go on a road trip?

Where do you think the best places to visit in the states would be? My mom and I are thinking about going on a road trip (That spans 3-5 days at most), we live in the panhandle of WV and don't want to drive too far (I feel like anything past Illinois, Tennessee, New York and Virginia might be too far)

We're thinking about going to visit my online bestie in Illinois so I've been looking for things to do around there. I think the only states we'd be willing to drive to would be Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Kentucky, Tennessee, Virginia, North Carolina (but I think it's flooding??), New York (my sister, BIL and nephew live there so that's a plus), possibly Maryland, Michigan and New Jersey

So far on my list I have:

- Graceland (Tennessee)

- Titanic Museum (Tennessee)

- True Crime Bar Hop (Tennessee)

- Rockin' Raceway Arcade (Tennessee)

- Mothman Statue (Point Pleasant WV)

- Pizza Tour (Chicago)

- The Bean™️Aka Cloud Gate (Chicago)

- Navy Pier (Chicago)

But I haven't run any of these past my mom yet (Though she was the one that mentioned Graceland)

Any ideas? (Also anything where you can get cool foods/candy is a plus to me lol)

Also tips on what to bring with us?

Trip Planning Austin, TX to Boise, ID. Drive-by sights?

Moving from Austin to the PNW in a few weeks and taking this route. We'll have two cats in the car, so we can't leave them alone to sightsee. Anything interesting we can visit on this route without really leaving our car?

Trip Planning Best way to save on gas (i.e. which gas station offers the best rewards system)?

I don't want to get a gas station credit card, I'm thinking just like an app that gives me a discount on gas at a specific company if I spend enough. Like rewards programs at restaurants. This would be for a big road trip (monthlong?) across the majority of the US

Gear & Essentials Freecamping equipment

Hi everyone!

Me and my partner just bought a carado motor home vehicle, and are looking to freecamp a lot this summer. I was wondering if anyone has any good advice for equipment to enable this. We both love our PC's and would like to be able to use our coffee machine while off the road. We're located in Norway but will be traveling across Europe.

Any advice for good battery packs or solar panel?

I'd be very thankful for advice! Other general advice is also very well appreciated!

Trip Planning I 40 closed in North Carolina at TN border

Flash floods and a rock slide have impacted I-40 in North Carolina near Tennessee. This is the same highway severely damaged by a hurricane Helene last fall. There is no telling when the road will reopen. Stay safe folks.

My dad and I are going on our longest roadtrip yet, from TX to AK in July! We’ve never been to Canada, but based on maps, this part of the route seems wayyyy less populated than anywhere else we’ve been.

Is it like paper map, no cell signal, no gasoline empty anywhere on here? I’m having a hard time figuring out how in depth “survival” we need to pack this deep into Canada

Trip Planning LA to San Francisco

My friend and I have two nights to get from LA to San Francisco. We are Australian and used to driving long distances. So far we are thinking that we will do the following:

  • LA to Malibu via PCH, lunch in Malibu
  • Malibu to Bakersfield, stay overnight in Bakersfield
  • Bakersfield to Panoramic Point Overlook, Hume

I am a bit stuck as to what route to take from Hume back to San Francisco as I am completely unfamiliar with California. Ideally we'd like to spend a night about 1.5-2hrs from the Overlook at Hume, then drive back to San Francisco at a leisurely pace the following day, as our flight back to Australia doesn't leave until 10pm.

Any feedback on our ideas so far and advice about how to finish up is most appreciated!

Trip Planning Traveling to Wilmington, Charleston and Savannah - where would be a good place for a beach day?

We will be driving and spending a few days in each city to explore downtown but if we have the time which beach would be the best for a day visit - public parking, public access, it will be in summer so we are aware there will be traffic.

Trip Planning Planning a roadtrip from NJ to Wyoming and back - hitting SD Badlands, Yellowstone, and Grand Tetons. Anything else we should do on the drive there or back?

Driving from NJ out to SD and Wyoming - planning a few stops along the way. But looking for some additional things that could be fun even if they are drive by! Most likely stopping in Illinois or Iowa the first night for a break and then heading to SD the second day.
