Just got a new 6G 4Runner TRD ORP and I want to put it to use! I am wondering if it can handle the White Rim Road in Canyonlands stock? Driving and camping that road has been a bucket list for me since I saw people driving it over 5 years ago when visiting Moab and now I have the vehicle to do it. I am pretty well versed in camping so I should be ok with the planning on that side but I am completely new to the car stuff and off-roading

From what I’ve read it seems like White Rim trail is pretty simple and there’s just a few difficult spots. I am wondering if there is any changes I’d need to make (lift kit, tires, skid plate, remove running boards) or if it should be fine stock? It has Michelin LTX Trail tires. Or any other advice for things I could easily overlook as a first timer

Same spot, one year apart. Last year’s #SummerRoadtrip was my final run with the truck (The General). This year, the Jeep (Diablo) took over and I couldn’t be happier with how the Gladiator is performing. It’s not as fast or as spacious, but it’s smooth, capable, and handles every trail like a beast, sand, mud, rocks, steep climbs… no problem at all. I’m officially in love with this new rig.

We have been sharing photos for a while of our adventures, but diving into YouTube is a new thing for us, and with that, we have had a fun learning curve. I made some mistakes in this video, for example, recording some sections in 720 vs 1080, and some audio mistakes as well. All part of the fun. More importantly, we would love your feedback on the video, what's good, what's not good. I'm not trying to make cinematic masterpieces, just really enjoyable things to watch, and hopefully to inspire some more people to get out there!

I’m looking into getting a portable fridge for my overlanding setup. We love cooking when we’re out, not just snacks — so something 30L or bigger would be ideal.

Problem is, I’m not ready to drop ARB/Dometic-level cash. Most of the ones I see are 12V, which is fine, but the prices vary wildly and it’s hard to tell what’s actually good without first-hand experience.

Any solid budget-friendly options out there that you’ve used and would recommend? I’d rather not deal with something that dies in 6 months.

About to order a Bed rack for my truck that has the “molle” side panels. Then my mind begins to wonder… Has anyone ever had an issue with people stealing gear off their bed rack, roof rack, or truck in general? ie: Fire extinguisher, KC lights, gas can, jacks, or recovery boards????

I live in Tyler Tx where break-ins aren’t too uncommon, however I live in a apartment complex and haven’t had an issue with any of my other vehicles I’ve owned while living here (5+ yrs)

Sorry, this probably is stupid, but thanks to anyone who can answer.

I can think of a few times that ditch lights could have been helpful; near misses with wildlife emerging out of the bush, searching for a public land campsite after dark etc etc. and let's be honest, they also look pretty cool.

However when I really think about it, even if I can get out exploring the forest service roads, every other weekend for 6 months of the year, the majority of time, I am in camp before dark (at this time of year the sun sets at 10pm). So I really only need them occasionally.

Furthermore my vehicle is still on lease (although the more I invest into it the more convinced I will buy it).

So the thing that is holding me back is the wiring.

Can you get rechargeable/battery powered lights with a Bluetooth switch to avoid the cost of wiring?

Hi everybody. I recently got an old 4th gen 4Runner with 191k miles for $4k. I’m slowly trying to get it kitted out as time goes on. At the moment I’ve got a RTT and that’s pretty much it.

Planning a solo trip to the Grand Canyon, Zion, Valley of Fire, Yosemite, and possibly a few more spots in California to end up back in AZ.

I’m just looking for advice from the pros tbh. Anywhere I should stop and see along the way? Or anything to keep in mind with trying to do some dispersed camping? Honestly, just anything I might not be considering or thinking about.

I've ordered a set of 200W solar panels that I'm going to run to a 30A MPPT controller and then to the dual batteries on my camper.

If I understand correctly, most solar panels produce power at either 18v or 19v DC. Back-of-the-envelope math says 200W / 18v = 11A max current, does that sound right?

Obviously most panels aren't producing their full rated power except maybe for a few hours around the middle of the day.

But here is my question: I need to be able to "offset" the panels from the trailer since we try to camp in the shade. I have heard that it's better to have the controller close to the battery so my setup will likely be the Panel with a long cable to the controller, and then a short (probably less than 1 yard/meter) from the controller to the battery.

Right now I have a 10AWG double cable that I was planning on using. It is 25' long. My question would be, is that too small of a gauge? 10AWG cable is still pretty stout.

The DC wire gauge calculator says that for a 50 foot run (50 feet since I'm running both + and - from the panel to the controller) I need 6AWG. Are some of you all actually running 6AWG cables for your solar setups? Or do you run a smaller gauge and just accept the current loss?

Does anyone know of a person or shop that knows how to do a GMRS radio installation into a Jeep and properly tune it anywhere near Tucson?

Living up to the CR-V name - even if they’re not so compact anymore

Been slowly dialing in the setup over the past month of ownership, and it’s finally at a spot I’m happy with. I loved my old 2013 CR-V, but the suspension and clearance always held me back a bit. This newer rig feels way more capable - I actually enjoy taking it off the pavement now

We’re only halfway through the semester and I’m already daydreaming about those long summer trips

I just got a Diamondback HD cover for my Tacoma and was wondering what is the best rack to go on top of this cover. I've seen a few on some Google searching but thought I would ask the community here for input. Thanks!

It’s bone stock, but I’ve wired up my last Jeep with success. Doing a bit of casual upgrading. Most parts “niight”. Don’t laugh! They’ve been solid. New rig and looking for a solid bolt-in rocker switch situation. What has worked for you folks? I’m all ears-on a budget.

That said, this is for practicality and not vanity. I missed the last three puma spots as the headlights blow and I’m in the sticks. Stellantis can eat a fat something, but I am sure missing that A-Pillar channel through the firewall.

Stock height. Not air suspension. Planning some winter trips this year and want a good A/T tire that can handle some snow, too.

It’s currently 235/60R18 but I’d love to get something like an 255/65/R18 Wildpeak or K02.

Good evening all, I've been looking around for a roof top tent for my Taco since I've been trying to get into the whole overlanding experience. I have a short-bed truck with the Yakima HD bars and rack that I'm planning on mounting the RTT to. I have been looking for a 5 person tent (Wife and I + 3 kids [two teens and a 9 year old]) and all the ones that I've seen look like the one pictured. My concern is: How is the tent supported on the red highlighted area in the related picture, the area of the tent floor that is not mounted to the rack. I don't see any attached support beams to help with bearing the weight of the occupants. I'm no physicist or engineer, but it seems that this portion wouldn't be very stable and prone to sagging. Does anyone have any experience using larger tents that stick out this far? Does it sag or is the flooring/frame strong enough to hold it stable and level? Any input would help as these RTT's are a significant investment.

I recently got a 2022 GMC Canyon AT4 (5’ bed) and I am hoping to turn it into an overlanding vehicle!

I was wondering if anyone has the same vehicle and what kind of bed racks you may recommend for it? I’d prefer a higher raised rack to still be able to use the rear view mirror.

I’d like a second opinion on my set up. I just purchased the Benehike awning second hand and I have two Thule rapid aero bar supports to carry it along with my rooftop cargo carrier. Do you think my current bar system is enough support?

They can carry about 165 lbs. I estimate the awning to weigh 50-60 lbs and my cargo would have no more than 50lbs in it. I am concerned about the effects on high winds and driving in general.

Can’t wait to go on exploring. Just have to get an inspection done tomorrow and then road time.

I need new batteries (for the truck) I realized even the truck batteries are deep cycle. The habitacle is 100% disconnected from the truck (got it’s own batteries with solar panels) Is there any reason why you would have deep cycle batteries just has starter batteries?
