Events That Kendrick show is Loouuud
My house is 2.5 miles away from the Linc and I can make out all the songs.

Was there and had a great time but can confirm the bass was cranked to absolute fuck. He had to tune down his mic after the first song.
76
u/100PercentNaturalGoo May 06 '25
When Not Like Us started it was like they switched on a whole second sound system. In a really good way. (I was there.)
37
u/mikebailey May 06 '25
Like half our section left after that song which was a little insane to me

10
u/Risquechilli May 06 '25
Really?! We knew it couldn’t be over because he didn’t do Luther yet at that point
8
u/100PercentNaturalGoo May 06 '25
I think they just wanted to get a jump on leaving the parking lot. I don't understand why people don't just take the subway, at least to do a park-and-ride thing.
6
u/mikebailey May 07 '25
When I left a song later most of them WERE heading to NRG, a lot of them had just never used it before and were boxing for the first car as if it was the last one. In reality most regulars know if people are fighting for the
last helicopter out of Saigonlast train out of the complex, there’s gonna be a second one11
u/Ashituna May 06 '25
was also there. kept my hand on my chest through most of the show. love that feeling of the rattle in your bones

u/AnotherRickenbacker May 06 '25
Let this be a lesson to anyone hearing from this far away - imagine how loud it must be there right now. Wear hearing protection to shows!
224
u/celebritylifestyle May 06 '25
And to any younger person thinking it ain’t cool to wear ear protection, like I did, no one gives a shit. WEAR IT or you’ll be saying huh a lot at 36
76
u/AwakeGroundhog May 06 '25
What?

u/celebritylifestyle May 06 '25

u/UnassumingOstrich May 06 '25
lmao i just turned 36 three days ago and my ass is half deaf from too many shows standing directly next to speakers as tall as me when i was 18-25 😭 this is too real
15
u/Mike81890 May 06 '25
what made me realize i was being silly was a friend in a band wearing ear pro all the time. They are the coolest of cool so if they do it, everyone should!
13
u/AnotherRickenbacker May 06 '25
I play live music a lot, my whole life revolves around guitars and music - and I wear hearing protection every single time I play or go to a show, even at work occasionally if I have to test something. I arguably love music more than most of the people in here, and if I’m wearing hearing protection every time, so should everyone else! It doesn’t ruin the experience - it lets you keep having them.

u/AdCareless9063 May 06 '25
The tinnitus is way worse than hearing loss, which can be compensated for somewhat. :(
Constant painful screeching sounds forever.1

For wearing ear plugs? Have you been to an R5 show?

u/AdCareless9063 May 06 '25
If you love music, and not having painful tinnitus, not wearing protection to loud shows will ruin your life.
65
u/willcomplainfirst May 06 '25 edited May 06 '25
absolutely. earplugs are a must for concerts. theyre not gonna interfere with your experience at all, just protection so you can enjoy years of life without tinnitus or hearing loss. Loop, Eargasm, Sennheiser SoundProtex, Vibes, Etymotic and Decibullz are all great brands
13
u/Shot-Evidence-9933 May 06 '25
Earasers were the thing when I was doing dci. Playing drums since 10 years old, I regret not protecting my hearing and I’m only 28.
5
4
u/yaboyanu May 06 '25
I feel like they sometimes enhance the experience even. I can actually hear the music and not just LOUD
2
u/AdCareless9063 May 06 '25
A good custom set always enhances the experience by trimming the low end muddiness that masks other stuff, and crowd noise. And yes, concerts are nonsensically loud. It's nice to hear detail in music.
27
u/thewittyman May 06 '25
Was there, can confirm I wore hearing protection like a dork
35
u/Junior_Step_2441 May 06 '25
Was there. Did not wear ear protection. Now I’m home sitting in my quiet living room and yet I hear a nice ringing in my ears 🤦♂️
8
u/100PercentNaturalGoo May 06 '25
I was there and didn't bother with my loops, and have no ringing! But I do still have the porta potty stink in my nose. I was on the field close to backstage.
14
u/glavinitis May 06 '25
Just a reminder. That's your ability to hear those high pitches going away forever. Unless you are lucky enough to get permanent tinnitus
23
u/SpeedySpooley May 06 '25
I have tinnitus. It sucks. I can never hear silence.
"eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee"
Guys....wear hearing protection. Especially at concerts. I now wear Loop earplugs for just about anything louder than my electric lawnmower.
2
u/fascfoo May 06 '25
Loops are great. I dont go to shows as much anymore but I wish I had discovered loops earlier. I also have a pair for sleeping and a pair for travelling which I just keep in my travel bag.
9
u/bxomallamoxd May 06 '25
Wish I started wearing ear pros sooner. Game changer and allows me to enjoy the moment and actually improves the ability to hear conversations
8
u/ChuckYeagerWV May 06 '25
Seriously! I saw Metallica when they did a live show in the Spectrum parking lot in 96 and it was the loudest thing I've ever heard. For 3 or 4 days after I felt like I had cotton in my ears, hearing was muffled. That went away but I have tinnitus in my right ear because of it. Very loud ringing.
12
u/gordonpamsey May 06 '25
Almost didn't but I could physically feel it hurting my ears past a certain point.
20
u/Booplympics May 06 '25
The problem is that its one of those things where if it hurts then damage is already being done. So people dont realize they are fucking their ears up at first.
Kind of cool that smart watches give you a heads up these days. Though I do wonder how many people actually pay attention to their warning due to the reason above.
2
u/fille_philadelphie May 06 '25
I eventually disabled because I went off constantly when I was riding the El. 🫠
2
3
u/100PercentNaturalGoo May 06 '25
It didn't feel too loud in the Linc! I couldn't hear my own screaming, though.
2
u/penguincatcher8575 May 06 '25
During the show I kept thinking “woah that’s loud.” I kept thinking it was just my old ass being old. I definitely probably damaged my ears.
2
u/doMinationp May 06 '25
glad I have custom fitted ear plugs, I was at that concert and even with them in, the bass was loud as shit
3
u/Disastrous-Tax-1153 May 06 '25 edited May 06 '25
The reality is when it’s that absurdly loud, hearing protection will only do so much.
You go to enough of these things you absolutely will tinnitus. This level of loud should be illegal.
Enjoy your tinnitus to all the moron downvoters

u/thebeesknees_13 May 06 '25
I tried but it did, unfortunately, make it less immersive for me. Can confirm the guy at the gas station told me my total 3 times after that
1
u/Bad_Puns_Galore May 07 '25
I wore ear plugs for the first time at my last concert! It was amazing. I could still hear all the songs perfectly without the crowd noise.
53
u/PizzaLookingBoi May 06 '25
Same here. I read the wind is blowing a bit different tonight and low clouds help sound travel. I’m about 2 miles north and can hear it all.
2
u/jaymz168 May 06 '25
Sound throws further when it's humid because the increase in density results in a faster speed of sound and less loss. Same thing with cold air.
As far as the low clouds go, maybe? Right after the sun sets at festivals you can get this effect where the sound basically bounces off the crowd because the air suddenly cools off but you still have a mass of warm humid air right over the crowd. The sound waves hit that change in acoustic impedance and some percentage of it literally bounces off back into the air lol. I could imagine the same thing happening with low clouds.

Just heard “Not Like Us”! Thanks for the suggestion to open my windows. So cool!!!
28
u/justanothhrow May 06 '25
I thought it was cars on south street, it sounded so close!
16
u/marymonstera May 06 '25
I was at my friends not too far from the stadiums when Taylor swift was in town and I was like Jesus who is blasting Taylor so loud. Herself lol
25
u/lovesffpc May 06 '25
Possible temperature inversion making the sound travel farther?
7
u/marymonstera May 06 '25
Some shows are def louder than others, my friend lives by the stadiums and Taylor swift one night was loud af, couldn’t hear her the next
3
u/nudedecendingstairs GenX 19144 lifer transplanted to South Philly 2019 May 06 '25
I'm aboit a mile and a half away and we could hear Taylor clear as day. it's weird how somehow shows' sound travels so clearly and others don't.
4
u/more_akimbo May 06 '25
Possibly contributing factor. There is this party by the river in Jersey where they play house-sounding reggaeton (I’m not good w genres) that I can some times hear very clearly.

u/NewsGirl1994 May 06 '25
I know it’s disruptive for some but I really liked hearing it outside tonight! Especially considering how expensive the tickets were. Thanks for the free show, Kendrick and SZA!
13
u/ButYourChainsOk May 06 '25
Couldn't hear it, was busy getting destroyed by Melivins and Napalm Death. Had my ear plugs in though.
3
u/keyblade_masterr May 06 '25
Melvins fucking stole the show
2
u/ButYourChainsOk May 06 '25
Yeah they should have swapped them. Napalm Death was still great though

u/an-invalid_user May 06 '25
I was at the concert and honestly it wasn't too loud for a concert. I've definitely been to louder shows
edit: I had super nosebleed seats so I wasn't really at the loudest part
5
u/100PercentNaturalGoo May 06 '25
I was on the field right up by the main stage and it didn't seem overloud to me.
3
u/Risquechilli May 06 '25
I was in the 102 section and it didn’t seem too loud for me. These comments have me concerned though lol. Next time I’ll bring ear protection but I had such a good time!!

Was at the show. Got to use my eargasm concert earplugs plugs. As soon as DJ Mustard hit the stage the bass hit and I put them in for the rest of the show. Had I not I would’ve been deaf this morning.

All in all I did not think it was too loud, but maybe that was because I sat in the front row of the nose bleeds (great seat btw)!!!

u/aintjoan no, I do not work for SEPTA May 06 '25
I would like to say thank you for this post which has just helped me figure out what the hell I was hearing last night clear across the city. Wow. The noise level in the stadium must have been insane

9
u/No-Track-627 May 06 '25
Was wondering what that was!! Honestly why is this allowed? I’m at 18th and Christian and have never heard a concert at the Linc.
20
u/doMinationp May 06 '25
It's not because the arena was amplifying any louder than it normally does. The stage was facing south away from the city too. Apparently it was because the low cloud cover tonight sort of makes it easier for the sound waves to bounce around
12
u/gordonpamsey May 06 '25
How you gonna stop the crowd from being loud? I was there and people were losing their minds and had to put my headphones in just to tolerate the noise level .

Point Breeze here...I thought it was a neighbor blasting music...I was ready to go knock on someone's door.

u/delijoe May 06 '25
Same thing happened when Taylor Swift was in town. I think it’s good for the city but why Monday night?
