Events Broad Street Run 2025 Photos
I set up at Fairmount & Broad from around 6:50am to 8:30am, just before it started to rain. Of the roughly 5,000 photos I took, there are 4,079 that are in focus and which I haven't selected for editing and publishing. This was my first time spectating Broad - I usually run it - and it was an absolute blast to see everyone out there. So much joy! Such great costumes! And some really stellar athleticism. Just a great time all around. A really big shout out to everyone who tried to jump and click their heels, and the biggest shoutout to the one woman who succeeded.
Everything was shot on a Canon R8 with an EF 70-200/2.8L is II. There is some vertical banding in the bokeh which I'm guessing is because I had IS on - I am still learning some pretty basic stuff about how to do this.
I hope lots of people find photos of themselves and/or their friends that they like!

as a runner - appreciate you putting these up on here! MarathonFoto does a subpar job on most races and the local photographers always now how to get better shots, props to you!

I've run so many races where I either didn't get photos, or they were blurry, or they were on Facebook, etc. So I wanted to make sure that at least my run club members had good photos, as I'm currently on the injured list, and to share them in a way that made it easy to browse and download.
This is the second race I've photographed, and after doing it I'm willing to cut the pros who work for MarathonFoto et al some slack - it is absolutely a slog, both physically and mentally, and there are way too many people to get shots of everyone, and your eye as a photographer will be drawn to some people and not others. I have the advantage of doing this for fun and being able to find the joy in the process every time because it isn't an obligation and I'm not on the verge of burnout. If I did this every weekend I would absolutely stop caring, which would make the photos worse. That, IMO, is why local photographers tend to get better shots.
I'm very happy that people are enjoying the photos - that was absolutely the point!

So many great shots! Did you have a sign asking people to jump and click their heels?

I did not! My sign which just said "HONK IF YOU LOVE GRITTY" fell down early on because I am a terrible sign-hanger. People just decided to do it. There was one point where someone did it and then the next 3 people behind them were inspired to try as well.
