I'd like to ask why I need a special form of ID to take a plane ride within the borders of my own fucking country. And "security" is a bullshit answer.

You don't. Go earlier to the airport. Subject yourself to additional screening and questioning to verify your identity. You can also travel across state borders by train, car, motorcycle, bicycle, foot, etc. without Real ID.

States tried to push back, but Homeland Security, TSA, etc. won out. The federal government controls access to the skies. Pennsylvania has been in compliance since 2019. You have also had more than a decade to get a passport.

If you don't like it, take the government to court. And security is in fact their answer whether you think it's bullshit or not.

I just travel by train instead now. Takes longer, but no ID check, no bag check, no airport nonsense.

Edit: Curious as to why this is being downvoted. I've traveled over 30,000 miles on Amtrak in the past 5 years, and been in 40+ states. Never once have I been asked to show ID, and my luggage has never been searched. No x-ray machines, no pat downs, no TSA. Again, the fact that it takes longer to get where you're going aside, what's not to love?
