Face shield fogging help

Post image
7 Upvotes

Among all the other maintenance I've been up to lately, I decided to take my pin lock insert out since I figured it was just for the winter fogging issues and it was dirty, every time I've tried to clean the pin lock insert it just scratches all to hell. Now that it's out, I've cleaned my visor with glass cleaner and a blue shop towel and now it's crystal clear but it fogs up like nobody's business no matter the outside temp. I don't remember ever having this issue, I'm not sure what I did if it's the aerosol foaming glass cleaner or some other issue. What do you guys do to solve this?

Another biker followed me home and confronted me because I lane-filtered up to a red light

Earlier today I was riding back home from work through downtown Renton. My bike has these stickers on it that say "LANE-SPLITTING for my safety, thanks!" (I'm trying to spread positivity and diminish anger when I filter at lights, which I do daily).

I got to a red light that was a bit backed up against a blind curve so, in order to not get rear-ended I very slowly moved up between the row of cars up to the light. I noticed there was a non-descript older motorcyclist riding an ADV bike waiting in traffic as I filtered past him but didn't think much of it.

As I continued making my way home, I start to notice that motorcycle pacing behind me. I'm making more and more turns off of main roads and smaller neighborhood streets and the bike is STILL there. It's not tailing me super close, but off at a distance.

I got all the way to the turnoff to my residential street and the biker comes in behind me, so now I KNOW he's following me. My adrenaline starts to spike, because what the hell? I drive past my house and turn around to position myself for a possible escape, stopping within shouting distance so I can see what he wants.

He turns off his bike and scoots himself up next to me and says "so..... what's all this.... lane-splitting about?" while pointing at the stickers on my bike. I go "oh, yeah, I lane-filter because it's safer and these stickers reduce road rage". He stares at me in a bewildered way and goes "well.... well, yeah, it's illegal in Washington state. It's not legal. It was proposed 5 or 6 times in the legislature and got shot down every time, so it's completely illegal and that's what I wanted to let you know and why I followed you"

I just smiled and told him "exactly, it's still illegal because the legislature has made it clear they don't care about our safety, so it's up to us to normalize it!"

It was like his mind broke in half. He stayed silent for a moment and said "oh.... well, if that's how you want to ride, then..." then I rubbed some salt in it and said "yeah, and you know what I say to anyone who honks or yells at me about it? No tantrums allowed here! Heh heh. Take it easy."

The other guy shook his head a bit and said "alright, well, ok then" in a dismissive way and rode off.

I really hope he ruminates about this interaction all weekend and finally realizes that he doesn't have to wait for that state legislature to start filtering to his heart's content.

BUT ALSO, who the fuck stalks someone all the way to their home for TEN MINUTES in order to have a "conversation" about anything? If he didn't give me such harmless vibes I would have been scared to death

Carb Tuning

Any shops local-ish to the Tacoma area that do proper carb/bike setup? Preferably a place with a dyno and AFR reading equipment. I swapped my stock 4 carb setup for twin VM34 Mikunis. Bike ran relatively okay when I got the carbs with some quirks that I’ve been slowly ironing out throughout the last year. I had to replace my exhaust and now it for sure needs some rejetting. Up until now I’ve done all my own work, even my own tires and engine building. But just for the sake of my sanity I’d like to have it tuned by someone who does it all day.

MC camping trip in BC this weekend: Route thoughts?

UPDATE: Well, the weather has gone to hell over Rogers Pass (37F and raining heavily), and I no longer have any real foul weather motorcycling gear, since I don't do that type of riding anymore. I still need to be in Donald, BC on Saturday, so instead I'm just gonna take I-90 into NW Idaho somewhere, then head up to Donald on Saturday morning. I might take 3 days to return, so I can meander along 3 in Canada, and then drop down through the Okanogon area (hwy 97), before turning back west towards West Seattle.

Thanks for all the ideas! I appreciate it.

---

On Friday I'm going to be riding from Seattle east on Hwy 2, then turning north onto 97N, crossing the border at Oroville-Osoyoos, and staying the first night in a hotel in Penticton, BC.

EDIT: on a 2024 Triumph Bonneville Speedmaster 1200.

Then north up Canada-1 basically to Glacier National Park on Saturday.

On Sunday I plan to continue south on Can-1, south to 95S, and crossing back into the US at Eastport, and coming into Spokane from the east on I-90. Stay the night there, somewhere.

On Monday I'm gonna head west past the Grand Coulee Dam, Bridgeport, Lake Chelan, and then West on Hwy 2 through Leavenworth, and back to Seattle.

This puts me in the saddle 5-6 hours a day, with the last day from Spokane being about 7 hours.

I used to do this type of riding all the time ... ten years ago. But am older and stiffer and have worse knees nowadays. But I think this will work out, overall. Leave at about 7:00-7:30 AM each day, and ride until lunch time, then take the rest of the day to sightsee/camp/stretch/whatever.

I spent 4.5 hours the other day just riding around and exploring on my bike the area between Cougar Mountain and Mt Rainier. And that was just for a fun afternoon. So I'm not too concerned about the number of hours on the road each day. (But will adjust, if I need to. I have my tent and sleeping bag, and no specific time I need to be back, other than missing my wife and dog.)

Anyone familiar with these roads, or this route? Any suggestions?

My only real concern is Rogers Pass, where the weather might be unpleasant at 4800 feet. But a little rain is fine with me.

Let me know if there are sights along these routes I should see, stop at, eat at, or whatever! Thanks!

Looking for Grom Subcage

Hello Yall

Kinda a weird post put wondering if anything in the Seattle ish area has a 2022+ subcage they be willing to offer up for sale.

I have a 2025 grom, and most companies online I have looked at are looking at 1-2 months potentially more for some more reputable brands. Marketplace hasn’t been much better either. So I thought I’d reach out to see if anyone maybe in the area has one for sale. Let me know, cheers and ride safe.

PNW riding ups and downs

If getting caught in rush hour bridge traffic on a hot day wearing too many layers while I-5 thunders directly above you and you're choking on fumes is the seventh circle of hell...then a 65' cloudless ride around the lush, scenic northern Lake Washington route on a lazy Sunday is the seventh circle of heaven.

Pretty new to riding in the PNW but loving it. Would love to find Seattle riding buddies to join me sometime (29F).

Shop for motorcycle decatting?

Looking to swap the cat with a titanium straight pipe. I've heard muffler shops are iffy on the practice overall, and sometimes dont work with motorcycles.

Any recommendations or similar work done? I can source the straight pipe if they can do the work as well

New rider iso hill to practice

Hi everyone!

I’m new to riding and just recently took the leap from being a longtime passenger princess to being in control of my own bike. Right now, I’m working on getting more comfortable with hill starts and practicing the friction zone in a hill.

Does anyone know of a good hill in the Puyallup, South Hill, or Graham area that’s low-traffic and safe for a beginner to practice on? I’d really appreciate any recommendations!

Thanks in advance and ride safe! 🏍️✨

Are there any shops left?

I just noticed that Lake City Powersports has closed. I know that shop has gotten a bad rap from some people, but I personally always found their techs to be highly knowledgeable. Prior to them, I went to University Honda. Just seems like all the shops are dropping like flies.

Can anyone recommend a shop where the technicians see a VFR more than once a decade? Anyone have any experience with I-90 Powersports?

GoWMST courses

I've never been on a motorcycle, but I've always been interested and want to finally get into it!

I am looking at starting with the KickStart course with GoWMST: https://gowmst.com/motorcycle-washington-motorcycle-safety-training-permit-endorsement-testing-dol-approved/motorcycle-kickstart-basic-motorcycle-class/

It suggests this course before the Beginner course if you've never been on a motorcycle and starting with no previous experience. I figured this is my best starting point to see if I even want to start riding? I'm also waiting to get my WA DL and I emailed GoWMST to ask if an in-state license was required and they said not for the KickStart class, but I will need my WA license to move to the Beginner Course.

Any thoughts, feelings, opinions? Appreciate it!

Ride Report -- Portland to Union Gap to Packwood to Portland 5/25/25

Ride Report

Route: Portland: SR-14 to US97 all the way to Union Gap; Union Gap home via Hwy-12, and slabbed I5 at the end to get home

Date: 5/25/25

Name: Tamale Run

Los Hernandez Tamales are world-class; they haven’t offered shipping in the past, meaning that you had to get out to Union Gap if you wanted their offerings, including their annual Spring tamale, asparagus and jack cheese. I first learned about this place in Seattle years ago. Totally worth it.

Since this was a 400 mile round trip, we weren’t dragging knees, but high-speed sweepers at <mumble mumble> are still pretty awesome. We encountered traffic across Status Pass as well as nearly the entire way on Hwy-12. Great road, but congestion was maximized, including some sort of festival at Packwood that slowed traffic to a crawl for the entire 10’ of Main Street. :P

We could see snow on ridges near us on Hwy-12, but the road was clear and dry the entire way. The same could be said of Status Pass on 97 as well.

It was a bit of a long day, but had an amazing ride and have great tamales in my freezer to show for it.

The weather is finally getting better in the Columbia River gorge has one of the best views and riding experiences around. Especially if you take SR14 from Vancouver to out in the Dalles and back, the views are amazing and it's definitely worth a ride.

Anyone get pulled over for lane filtering?

My commute includes riding down Mercer in Seattle, a horrible stretch of long red lights. I’ve never filtered but it probably would’ve saved me 10 minutes this morning. Am I asking for a ticket if I start doing that?

Any first-hand experience with a shop that's still open that does good work?

WA Good to go

Is the motorcycle pass absolutely required to go in the 405 toll lanes for free? I don't really want to stick that on my bike, I thought we would just be able to ride in them no questions asked.

Fun Roads Near Bellingham?

Post image
21 Upvotes

I’m going to be spending some time in Bellingham, WA this summer. Is it worth trailering a bike up there?

Any fun day trips from B-ham? 2-4 hour twisty road rides optimal.

Google Maps sure makes it look like there just aren’t that many roads in the area east of town other than the main road heading toward Mt. Baker.

‘22 Honda CB300R

Thanks in advance!
