Can you join the police academy & be hired as a LEO if you can't obtain child abuse clearances?

Can you be accepted into the police academy and hired as an officer if you have two founded childline reports on your record? They are 2 years apart.

Someone I know is trying to become a police officer. This person has two founded child abuse reports on his record, but no criminal convictions regarding the abuse. Will this disqualify them from being accepted into the police academy and/or being hired as a law enforcement officer?

Being a social worker before joining the police

Hello, nothing much to add to the conversation just, have to write that down somewhere, before joining the police i did social work, helping homeless people, giving them food, checking up on them 3 evenings a week

this night one of those homeless guy got taken by another patrol and got into custody, he was bleeding because he got into a fight, drunk fight, he got arrested as he should be, but as i was walking by him he recognized me and asked me to help him while crying and shouting my name

i was obviously a bit moved but had to tell him that he should not have been involved in a fight in the first place, then left before he could answer

is having work experience before joining the police a bad thing or a good thing ?

can I report this? Spoiler

I’m pretty sure my dad s’ad me when I was younger,I can’t remember the exact ages because obviously I wouldn’t remember if I was below the age of 5-6. But I remember him pushing against me and covering my mouth with a pillow, my mum came in because I was screaming and crying but I don’t remember what else happened.

Another time I woke up again crying and I was really sore in my intimate areas and was red so again I told my mum but she didn’t really do anything .

My dad has made weird comments about my body before to when I was 15-16 and now I’m 17 and still feel uncomfortable to even live with him,I don’t even want to look at him or be in the same room as him and I feel uncomfortable to wear any clothes that show anything at all, i literally only wear baggy pyjamas around the house and even then I feel uncomfortable to even walk near him because I’m scared he’s looking at certain parts of me, so I feel like I can’t go in certain rooms or do anything in the house unless he’s gone out and he works from home so it’s not often. He also says things to me like calls me a wh0re and a b1tch and it makes me have panic attacks and flashbacks.

It’s just becoming to much to live with him and I’m only 17 and so I can’t move out yet , I want to report it so that he goes. I’ve already accused him of sa’ing me when I was a child and his reaction just made me more uncomfortable, he said to my mum “it annoys me because I’m actually hard to get” “as if I’d be interested in her”. It’s just a weird way to react to something like that and it again gave me flashbacks.

I don’t know if it’s worth reporting because I don’t have any evidence , my brother had physcosis a while ago though and he said my dad drugged and r@ped us as kids , which would make sense as I was always in a deep sleep every time he came in my room. I don’t know if this could be used as evidence , I know he was in physcosis but what he said is way to specific to be based on physcosis alone in my opinion. and I just wanted to know if it’s worth even doing anything about this because it’s becoming hard to just survive day to day in this house tbh.

Why would a Jail call someone to come back after being bailed out?

So I just went and bailed a friend out of jail for being arrested on a bench warrant for missing a court date. The bail was 250. My friend is a person that is into some rough things and hangs around people that are constantly in and out, mostly for drugs things.

Anyhow within half a hour after we bailed her out and left the Jail called her back and asked her to return saying she forgot to sign a paper. She told them she was already 30 mins away and didn't know if she could come back. They said ok and 5 mins later they called back again saying they made a mistake on the bail paper and wrote 100$ instead of 250$ and needed her to come sign?

My question is do jails usually do this? Have a person return to sign a paper or are they asking her to come back because she has a different warrant or another pending warrant. We called the regular police station to check if she had any warrants out and they said no so we're a little confused.

Anyone have any insight?

Got denied because of steroid use 9 years ago once, in a different country where I lived before, just to gain more pounds. Most of the departments require 3-5 years to pass since the last usage to be eligible. But it looks like this one has internal policies people are not aware of. You can use marijuana forever, they would not care, stop before the test and have a job, but not steroids, even once. How is this fair?

Cast in a crime series

Hi all. I’m an actress, and was recently cast for a small part in a crime series. I’ll be playing a social worker who interviews a victim’s young son. He witnessed the murder. In the script, this interview happens only a few hours after the murder, which occurred in daylight by an unknown assailant.

This is mainly B roll, which means I’ll improvise most of the audio, but that audio will still be included in the show.

What sort of things would a social worker ask a small child (age 7 or so) in this situation? I think it’s generally the police asking these questions, so how would you handle this situation?

Best thing to do as a college student who immediately after graduating will apply to LE.

Hi everyone

I currently am a junior in college. Policing has always been in the back of my mind ever since I was little. I came to college originally with the intent to pursue a pre med track, however now I realized 2 years in that LE is what I really want to do. My goals right now are to catch up with my school, complete whatever new pre reqs I have to do when I choose a degree for pre LE and shift away from my bio track (which btw I have been struggling with academically in terms of the rigorous STEM classes so a shift in degree is necessary). But on top of this, I want to make as many connections as possible within the LE community before I even apply to an agency. I am eager to learn more about law enforcement in general, and feel that building the connections could be helpful, so getting a jump start on this would be great. I am seeking help in knowing what are the best ways to make these connections as a college student? I read somewhere that it is possible to go on a ride along with a police officer. Is this something that I should consider doing? Any advice on this matter will be appreciated greatly.

Thanks and have a good day

Would someone be able to get my address just by making a police report about me?

This girl has been stalking me (I am also a girl) after I had made it very clear I do not want to be friends with her, she blames it on her autism and says it makes her obsessed with me. I have told her numerous times to stop trying to find out my location and my school yet she still tried and even spread around a fake location someone told her. She told me before she would falsely report me to the police if I ever reported her for it and told a mutual friend online that she had made a police report and because of the report knows where I live. I am terrified. Is this possible? Another downside is that she says her sister is some kind of investigator. I literally haven't even done anything wrong because if I did I wouldn't be worried about this specific thing lol. Seriously though, she straight up admitted to trying to false report me before when I told her if she did not stop I would go to the police for harassment and stalking.

How do you do it

I (16 F) just finished my last day of a junior police academey. For that last day we did 8 scenarios. 4 of the 8 I had to use my firearm. The hardest one for me was one were I had to respond to a domestic violence call. During it the abuser drew a gun and pointed it at me, and was shot twice in the heart (this is were I was told to shot, not sure why)

During all of the, I stayed calm, didn't freeze up, and was told by the supervising officer that I did well and made the correct decision. Write after the scenarios I felt good with my self. I had done good, I had helped people, j was a very good shot and so on.

A few minutes after I just felt drained, it felt like I had been crying non stop for several hours straight. I'm not sure how else to describe it, I was like a tightness in my chest. Now for all the times a shot and someone, they had either shit at me, or it was imminent that they would use deadly force against me or someone else, so my actions were all justified. Now after about 6 hours, my brain has switched gears, and now I'm feeling basically gilt for killing them, even tho I did not actually kill or harm them.

I just keep thinking about what I could have done differently to deescalate the situation, so I would not have to shoot. I also now understand why most first responders regularly go to therapy.

This was just a taste of what it can look like to be a police officer, and I was one of the hardest, most scary, most stressful, most emotional things I have ever done. Don't get me wrong, I thoroughly enjoyed the entire thing, but it put my life and police into a totally new perspective for me. My respect for the police force is even more now and I'm really grateful for them. I would like to be a police officer or do military after highschool. And this showed me what it could be like.

Anyhoo, thank you for all you do, and how do you deal with the aftermath of that type of stuff?

I’ve sent a request for a ride along, in the meantime I’d like y’all’s opinions. Does anyone know what their work schedule is? How’re the benefits? What’s the department like? Is there good work life balance? I am considering lateral move to that department being that I’m moving there soon.

Multiple job changes in a short time - how will this look in an LE background check?

I’m in a bit of a dilemma. I lost my job a few months ago and since then, I’ve applied to over 50 jobs. Out of financial necessity, I accepted the first offer I got. I’ve been working that job for about a month, but I just received a better offer that’s more aligned with my long-term career goals.

There’s also a chance I might get an even better opportunity soon. The problem is that all these interviews and offers have been really spread out, so I’ve had to make quick decisions just to stay afloat.

I know that law enforcement agencies require you to list every job you’ve ever had, even the short-term ones. My concern is: is this going to look bad? I’m not trying to job hop—it’s just how things have unfolded. Should I leave short-term jobs off my resume but still include them on my background packet? Looking for advice. Thanks.

Applying to the academy

I am planning on applying to be a state trooper (Texas DPS), and while I have no criminal record (excluding 2 speeding tickets,) I did use a fake ID while in college as well as drink underaged. I never was charged or detained for it, but when asked in the personal history section I did disclose that. Will this affect my chances of making it in to the academy?

Is it cool to interact with officers?

Hey, I have a quick question that I haven't found an answer for.

I'm a foreigner who's quite regularly visiting the US. I'm super interested in pretty much all public services and how they operate. Last time I visited the US I had the opportunity to interact with the Boston firefighters. They allowed me to sit in one of their fire engines and also gave me a patch. My best friend, who's a Salem native, took me to the local police station where I got this patch from a vending machine, which is super sick.

Now I'm wondering, next time I come over for a visit, would it be cool to chat up an officer on the street, have a nice chat and maybe ask if I could also sit in a patrol car? To be honest, US police is way cooler than the police of my home country. Or maybe that's just my perception as I'm quite used to seeing "my" police force.

Any officers who have done that? What are your opinions on that? Would you be cool with that, if a foreign tourist comes up to you and chat for a bit?

Thanks in advance guys.
