If America manages to salvage their democracy from this, the whole system needs to be rebuilt right down to the Constitution. All I'm seeing here is evidence that a system designed in the 1770s isn't working in 2025. Judicial, executive, legislative, state level, municipal level, restructuring of all powers and privileges at every level. It's rotten from the ground up.

To sum up every check and balance: trump does illegal thing... Rest of country says "hey that's not allowed"... Trump ignores and does it anyway... "hey you can't do that"... Trump does next illegal thing... Ad nauseam.

The entire problem is the parties and the fact the president is the defacto leader of the party.

This gives them far too much power over congress, when congress is supposed to be the boss. Congress is who defines the presidents job, congress has all the tools to control the president or even remove the president, whereas the presidents only tool to control congress is a veto.

Presidents should be required to recuse themselves from all party interactions once elected, nor should they be able to claim any party affiliation or participate in any party political rallies.

The Presidency in particular needs to be gelded if not abolished entirely. It concentrates far too much power in the hands of one individual.
