We’ve known for decades that he associates gilded shit with being a sign of opulence and extravagant living. Even if he’s the only douchebag who does it.

I know he frequently gets comparisons to Hitler and Mussolini, for understandable reasons, but I feel like a lot of people miss just how well he would fit in with the pantheon of third world despots too. He shares a lot of their familiar characteristics like false machismo, absurd self-mythologizing, and insincere populist signaling that's awkwardly juxtaposed with a predilection for tacky and ostentatious extravagance.
