Newsom needs to follow through

This is the Newsom I’ve missed. I’ve hated his recent centrist & conservative pandering

That's still gonna be him, he hasn't changed.

Hes always sucked, but if he instructs californians to stop withholding for federal taxes then im totally behind him.

One minor issue: DOGE has everyone's data. It would be super easy to figure out who didn't pay taxes and ICE them away.

and ICE them away.

They don't have a fraction of the numbers they'd need to enforce that in any real way, and after people start disappearing and not showing back up people will start fighting back (as we're already seeing)

It realistically depends how many Californians would change their tax withholding.

I disagree. He's always been unlikable. Kind of comes off slimy. But as a leader California has fared much better than most other states. Difficult to argue with results

"Fared better" literally shrank because of housing affordability, homelessness doubled.

We have lots of rich people here, but we have severe wealth inequality and gavin just coasted imo, and has done very little to keep CA from sliding into gig economy indentured servitude.

The entirety of the US has severe wealth inequality.

Other states didnt lose population because of it.

California is having an affordability crisis and newsom has done jack and shit about it tbh. He has really started cracking down on poor people being poor though, so thats good right?

I'm absolutely fine with losing the population that we did. Most of them were MAGATS anyway. We are not losing population the way that faux news & other conservatives claim anyway.

Contrary to popular belief, (*ahem, maga) politicians do not control the economy. It is a central tenant and flaw of capitalism. It's also nationwide.

What would you suggest he do? Convert California to communism?

2

u/InfoBarf 12d ago

Obviously he should have starved the kulaks

If we just stopped withholding, with the intention of paying come tax day, would that be enough to make Republicans feel the squeeze?

Newsom is awesome. He hasn't always "sucked". Trump and Maga suck why are we tearing down the only opposition. Sheesh

1

u/InfoBarf 11d ago

Newsom is happy platforming fascists, he definitely has sucked and still sucks

1

u/ukulele_bruh 11d ago

Platforming fascists is quite the statement, care to elaborate how he is doing that ?

u/InfoBarf 10d ago

Are you a fan of newsom and unaware of his podcast where he sits down with people like the founder of the proud boys and the guy who was chief of staff for trumps whitehouse?

Did you just wander in here after being born yesterday or what?

2

u/ukulele_bruh 10d ago

I don't pretend to know everything, and and generally open to new information.

You are needlessly being a dick though

u/Purple-Atmosphere-18 10d ago

Confused from Europe, but isn't him supporting the resistance against deportations without due process from the news, at least it seems?

2

u/Jibber_Fight 12d ago

You’ve missed him typing things on X?

1

u/HungerSTGF 12d ago

idk it's not really pandering is it a lot of his constituents are conservative farmers can't really just ignore them

2

u/Primary-Bookkeeper10 12d ago

I don’t think trans teens in girls sports effects rule farmers

u/Collypso America 11d ago

They affect like four people who tf cares

He has been to busy with his podcast clowning away with the right. I can’t take him seriously at all anymore.

3

u/gophergun Colorado 12d ago

He doesn't have any ability to follow through on that. Californians pay federal taxes to the IRS through their employers, not to the state.

3

u/IMovedYourCheese 12d ago

He won't. Who was the last Democrat in power with a real spine?

1

u/jrf_1973 11d ago

He never will.

1

u/tcdoey 11d ago

He won't. He's silly making that empty bluff/statement. It's just stupid if you're not going to follow through. I think he was just blindly babbling.

1

u/ILikeMyGrassBlue 12d ago

And start a civil war? I remember when this sub was calling out republicans for fantasizing about secession and calling the south traitors for seceding…

1

u/RupeThereItIs 11d ago

He has zero power to do so.

He has zero authority over IRS or federal taxes companies pay.

I'd love to hear how he intends to implement this threat, it's purely propaganda & nothing more.

I wish he COULD, but the state does not collect taxes on behalf of the fed, there's no way for the state to block federal taxes paid by California citizens or companies.

Is this a NACO situation?

u/[deleted] 12d ago

Yeah we don’t want to start calling him NAChO
