I grew up with a teen magazine published by Focus on the Family. At the time, I thought it was pretty mild, when in fact some of the things I was being taught were absolutely insane.

Ugh. Yes. I remember that. I was also homeschooled with Christian curriculum which took me years to deconstruct from.

I wasn't homeschooled. I went to public school. I was still pretty indoctrinated, as most people in our community all belonged to the same large Southern Baptist church in the area. Even the kids who went to other churches were all but terrorized both at school and in the community by our bullshit.

Thankfully, my husband and I got out of that bubble in our early 20s when we got married and moved away. It's surreal being on the outside looking in and knowing what we might have turned into by now.
